地处江汉平原的江汉油田,表层土一般为粘性土,第二层为软粘土,是近代沉积的淤泥质类有机土,各种性能较差.江汉油田的设计人员通过应用实践,论证了在软弱地基上采取承压板后可使容许承载力有不同程度的提高.从1985年始采用基础超浅埋技术,并已纳入住宅定型设计,仅此一项已节约投资200万元.而且还意味着过去已建造的三、四层住宅楼可加盖楼层.这一技术若在荆洲地区推广采用,每年至少可节约1000万元.
