The chemical stability of sodium hypochlorite in distilled water and different kinds of buffer solution(phosphate, carbonate and acetate buffer)was observed. Samples were stored at 22~34℃ and examined five times throughout an eight-day observation period. The iodometric titration was used to determine the percentage of available chlorine in each sample. The results showed that sodium hypochlorite in distilled water could maintain the germicidal activity longer than 14 days; while buffer solutions could accelerate the decrease of concentration of available chlorine, resulting in maintenance of germicidal activity less than two days.
