The development course of the C4ISR system from a stovepipe system to an integrated system in US is described. Over last 10 years, several key programs and systems (C4I for the warrior, defense information infrastructure, global command and control system, advanced battlefield information system, global information grid) are introduced. Trends of the C4ISR system (joint operations, information war, information superiority, space superiority, integration from sensor to shooter, information infrastructure, military transformation, software development, economic load support capability) are analyzed. The work can be used as a reference for the synthesized electronic information system in China.
