摘要
英语中没有相当于汉语语气词的词类。从这一独特的语言现象出发,考察中国古代典籍的英译过程,可以发现其运用了多种手段来处理语气词。语气词是用于辅助表达语用功能的,在译成语调主导的英语时,其功能借助了其它手段来体现,如:利用英语的语调、英语的其它词类、英语的时态、英语中相应的句式或语序的改变以及省译等。
Chinese modal particle has no equivalent part of speech in English. From the aspect of this unique part of speech, this paper tries to analyze what approaches can be applied to translate the modal particles in Chinese classic works into English. These are mainly the following: the application of English intonation, English part of speeches, English tenses and aspects, relative English sentential patterns or the change of sentence sequence and omission.
