Ten trace elements i.e. ,As、Cr、Co、Pb、Ni、V、Cu、Cd、Be and Ge in 7 coalsamples were determined bv AFS、XRF 、ICP-AES and GFAAS methods respectively. Fac-tor analysis method was applied to the study on the relationship between these trace ele-ments. A 3-factor model with 94.5% total variance was abstracted from the correlation ma-trix of 10 variables. After varimax rotation of factor matrix,the Chemical distribution char-acteristics of these trace elements in coal can be interpreted reasonably by this 3-factor mod-el. The first principal factor characterizes the trace elements As、Cr、Co、Ni、V、Cu、Cd coex-isted with inorganic minerals in coal, the second principal factor characterizes the trace ele-ments Be and Ge with organic substances in coal. Compare to the transition metal elementsCr、Co 、 Ni、V、Cu 、Cd , the trace elements As and Pb have different chemical properties,Thethird principal factor may be the reflection of this difference. The results of factor analysis inthis paper were in agreement with those results published in the literatures.
