By means of EPR, XRD, XPS and SEM analyses, the metallic valency, activated phase and surface feature in various catalysts before and after reaction were characterized. The results showed that the Cu-Ag-Mn-Ce()/Y-Al2O3 is an optimum catalyst. Its T50 and T95 for CH3OH oxidation are 120 and 140℃,respectively. Among the different elements,copper can stop the accumulation of Mn2+;silver promotes the disproportionation reaction Mn2+←Mn3+→Mn4+; manganese has the effect upon the transformation Cu+→Cu2+;cerium has the capacity of reserving oxygen.
