介绍了近年来英国林业资源的概况及林业机构的设置 ,回顾了英国林业的发展历史 ,概括了英国林业经营管理的特点 。
Although forest cover in UK is low than in Europe,there is still a dramatic change in forest resource from 3 percent forest cover in 1914 to 10 percent in 1998.Its conifer species account for 70 percent of timber plantations,broadleaved species account for 30 percent. Private owns more than half of forest ,which accounts for 66 percent of total woodland in Britain.However,wood production can not meet the need in Britain.85 percent of wood production need to be imported from other countries.Structure of Forestry Commission is simple and high efficiency.Government provides different kinds of grants to encourage forest planting through the different approaches.Forest management in UK emphases of forest standard.Woodland deficiency and low timbre price are main problems in forest management of UK.According to new requirement from new century, there will be more financial support to forest management from Government.Forest research will concern more about relationship between forestry and environment than traditional practice technique and environmental value of forest will become more important than its wood production value in further in UK.
