摘要
随着网络科技的进步,英语教师已体认到其学习及教学上之潜力,因比应用性及研究性文献不断地增多.本文拟自三项实证性的实验来探讨学习者进行在线学习之相关重要课题.此三项研究使用网络上三种不同素材或工具:网络上英文文章(CNN电子新闻),电子邮件交换以及关键词前后文索引系统.参与学生含大学英文专科生及一般高中生,进行方式全为课堂教学与网络教学之结合.本论文利用此三项研究来说明进行网络在线和离线学习过程及成果研究,以及应用时几项重要课题,并对教师之学习任务设计、教案准备提出建言.此三项研究均使用问卷调查学生学习态度,也利用不同研究方法收集学生学习成果并加以比较分析.本文就整体网络英语教学之教与学层面及未来研究方向提出几项建议.最后,网络上学习素材将越来越多,如何协助学习者选择合适其英文水平之素材和学习方法将是未来计算机语料研究之重大研究课题,作者将介绍一项此一课题之大型、进行中之研究计划CANDLE和与会者交流.
This paper addresses central issues related to Internet English teaching by documentation and illustration of three empirical studies. The studies used text on the World Wide Web, concordancing and email for either senior high school or college students in the contexts of a particular course. Various types of data on students' perception and learning gains were collected from the three experiments to show in what way a particular application of Internet can enhance learners' performance in a certain aspect of English knowledge or skills. With the findings, the paper suggests that Internet is not only the current trend that requires English teachers to keep up with our learners, but also able to become effective tools or environment with optimal instructional design that matches learners' background or needs. The paper ends with an ongoing multi-researchers' project in Taiwan, CANDLE (Corpora And NLP for Digital Learning of English), that has used advanced corpora processing techniques and computational scaffolding with the aim to promote students' learning of English via innovative facility of Internet.
