很早以前,人们就希望列车能与轨道脱离接触,以解除轮轨车辆的振动与磨损带来的烦恼。早在1864年,法国就开展了气垫车的研制工作,通过压缩空气使车体与地面脱离接触。1869年法国巴黎试验了世界上第一个气垫车。本世纪60年代,这种研究形成高潮。
