Objective To evaluate the feasibility and the capability of 131 I -SPECT/CT in detecting lesions of differentiated thyroid carcinoma. Methods Forty-three patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma in all were selected to underwent 131 I-WBS and 131 I-SPECT/CT after operation and 131 I therapy. 131 I uptake sites were observed in 131 I-SPECT/CT images. 18 F-FDG CoDe was added if both 131 I-WBS and 131 I-SPECT/CT presented negative results. Results 131 I-SPECT/CT showed a higher positive rate than that of 131 I-WBS. Eleven false positive lesions were excluded and all localizations were made by 131 I-SPECT/CT. Conclusion 131 I-SPECT/CT is a very useful method in detecting lesions of differentiated thyroid carcinoma. This method can provide more information about 131 I uptake and locations of lesions, as is vital to modulating therapeutic plans and making follow-up schemes.
