摘要
本文构建用于分析最低工资标准与企业国际化策略选择的理论框架,并利用1998—2010年中国工业企业数据库、中国对外直接投资名录与中国283个地级市最低工资标准匹配数据,运用离散被解释变量的多值选择模型(Multinomial Logit),实证检验最低工资标准对中国制造业企业国际化策略选择的影响。研究发现,最低工资标准促使企业更倾向于选择对外直接投资(OFDI),其次是同时出口和OFDI,最次为出口,该结论在进行内生性问题解决和多项稳健性检验后依然成立。且不同分组样本对应的检验结果存在异质性。此外,制造业企业劳动力成本上升是最低工资标准促使企业优先选择OFDI而非出口的重要渠道,且该效应在低工资劳动力密集型企业尤为明显。
This paper developed a theoretical frame for the analysis of minimum wage and firm internationalization.Using the matched data from China Industrial Enterprise Database from 1998 to 2010,the directory of China’s foreign direct investment and the minimum wage data of 283 prefecture-level cities,the paper also deployed Multinominal Logit mode of Discrete Explained Variable to empirically test the effects of the minimum wage standard on Chinese manufacturing firms’choices of internationalization strategies.The study finds that,the minimum wage standard prompts companies to rank the strategies in the following order of preference:OFDI first,then both exports and OFDI,and finally exports only.This ranking is still valid after solving the endogenous problem and carrying out the robustness test.The test results corresponding to different grouped samples are heterogeneous.In addition,the rising labor cost is an important channel for manufacturing enterprises to choose OFDI rather than export,and this effect is particularly evident in lowwage and labor-intensive firms.
