In the transmission system, Slovak Republic prepares several scenarios of possible reconfigurations, especially in the substation Varin and substation Lemesany. The paper describes reasons of reconfiguration necessity, preparation process, testing process, test results and comparison with expected results from simulation calculations. The conclusion summarizes advantages and disadvantages of the reconfiguration implementation in the transmission system, recommendations for real-time operation, including coordination with neighbouring transmission system operators and affected distribution system operators.展开更多

The power engineering as area of science and industry is subjected to rapid modernization, which is caused by technological progress. However, not all elements of the power system are developing simultaneously. The old type of elements sometimes is sufficient to adapt old system to the new operational conditions. The work developed and proposed in this paper deals with analysis of possible optimization of synchronous generator's excitation system. Authors examined influence of excitation system's parameters to the dynamics of transient processes in the power system. Authors investigated optimal parameters of excitation system of the Kegums hydro power plant. For optimization of parameters objective functions were used. The problem of the mutual influence of excitation systems of neighbor power plants was investigated. Investigation of transient processes using developed model proved that optimization of excitation parameters improves efficiency of regulation of excitation system, damping of active power oscillation and in some cases can prevent out-of-step condition.展开更多

The voltage uprating of existing overhead lines is an interesting solution for increasing the transmission of electricity, especially in areas where it is difficult to build new lines. If a line is uprated with minor ...The voltage uprating of existing overhead lines is an interesting solution for increasing the transmission of electricity, especially in areas where it is difficult to build new lines. If a line is uprated with minor changes of its design and without improvement of the grounding electrodes of towers, its lightning performance remains unchanged. The consequence is that the uprated line will have a lightning flashover rate very high compared to an overhead line of same nominal voltage but of standard design. One attractive solution to solve this problem is to use line arresters. The goal of this paper is to study the use of line arresters to achieve a satisfactory lightning performance of an overhead line uprated from 225 kV to 400 kV without major design modifications. In order to compare different strategies of line arrester installation the flashover rate is calculated based on a software able to launch automatically EMTP-RV. The software named LIPS has been developed under the cover of a partnership between Hydro-Quebec, RTE and EDF.展开更多

The fau...Dissolved gas analysis is the most widely used diagnostic test in power transformers. The aim of this paper is to introduce the dissolved gas analysis (DGA) methods able to diagnose the transformer conditions. The faults cause the transformer oil, pressboard, and other insulating materials to decompose and generate gases, some of which dissolve in the oil. The results of DGA must be accurate if faults are to be diagnosed reliably. There are different established methods used in industry for interpreting DGA results. We will compare the result of IEEE Key Gas Methods and Rogers’ Ratios. The transformer conditions are evaluated by the Key Gas Method with total combustible gas method (TCGM) and then verified by the Rogers’ Ratios. As result, the aging pattern and trend of the power transformer deterioration can be determined. The 30 sample data from IEEE with known faults and dissolved gas concentrations were used as the basis of comparison.展开更多
