A porosity-free and contamination-free surface layer with grain sizes ranging from nanometer to micrometer in Fe samples was obtained by surface mechanical attrition treatment (SMAT) technique. Mechanical and wear properties of the surface layer in the SMATed and annealed Fe samples were measured by means of nanoindentation and nanoscratch tests, respectively. Experimental results showed that the hardness of the surface layer in the SMATed Fe sample increased evidently due to the grain refinement. The elastic moduli of the surface layers in the SMATed and annealed Fe samples were unchanged, independent of grain size in the present grain size regime. Compared with the original Fe sample, the wear resistance enhanced and the coefficient of friction decreased in the surface layer of the SMATed Fe sample. 展开更多

The processing parameters of tube extrusion for superalloy Inconel 718 (IN 718), such as slug temperature, tools temperature, choice of lubricant, extrusion ratio and extrusion speed, were determined by experiment in this paper. An appropriate temperature range recommended for the slug is 1080-1120℃, and the temperature range recommended for the tools is 350-500℃. The microstructural evolution of superalloy IN 718 during tube extrusion was analyzed. With the increase of the deformation the cross crystal grains were slightly refined. While the vertical crystal grain is elongated evidently and the tensile strength increased along the axial rake. Glass lubricants have to be spread on the slug surface after being heated to 150-200℃, vegetable oil or animal oil can be used as the lubricant on the surface of the tools to reduce the extrusion force remarkably. 展开更多

The electrical conductivity, diele... 3D reticulated ceramics (3DRCs) with the composition containing SrFe12O19-SiC-TiO2 were prepared by a replication process with polyurethane sponges as the template in ceramic slurry. The electrical conductivity, dielectric and magnetic parameters of 3D reticulated ceramics (3DRCs) were measured with changes in cell size of the sponges, contents in the slurry and sintering temperature in this paper. Discussions about the influential factors of those parameters were focused on their electrical conductivity. The experimental results indicated that the electrical conductivity of 3DRCs raised with the increase of cell size, SiC/SrO 6Fe2O3 with weight ratio and sintering temperature. X-ray diffractions and SEM were used to investigate the relationship between electrical conductivity and sintering temperature. Deoxidizing reactions of SrO 6Fe2O3 caused the increasing electrical conductivity. The real part of permittivity (ε') and imaginary part of permeability (μ') raised with the increase of electrical conductivity (σ). The imaginary part of permittivity (ε') has a maximum at 10o S/cm with the increase of a, and the real part of permeability (μ') changes slightly with the increase of a. When a is at the range of 10-4 S/cm to 10o S/cm (a semi conductive state), both the imagine part of permittivity and permeability raises with increasing a, therefore, the 3DRCs present their high electromagnetic loss properties. 展开更多

The corrosion process of the X70 pipeline steel in 3.0wt% NaCl solution were studied using polarization method, and the chronological characteristics during the entire polarization plot were investigated in detail using EIS technique. In the active region of X70 steel, such as 20mV potential bias applied on open circuit potential (OCP), the impedance spectra was comprised of three parts: a high-frequency capacitive loop, a middle-frequency capacitive loop and a low-frequency inductive component. When positive polarization potential increased, the capacitive loops at high and middle frequency range merged, and the inductive component at low frequency shrunk. At high positive polarization potential bias (500-800mV vs. OCP), the high-frequency capacitive loop and the low-frequency inductive loop exhibited as disheveled points due to the synergism of the inhomogeneity of the corroding material and the localized corrosion. The results were fitted utilizing the equivalent circuits to simulate the impedance spectra and to interpret the electrochemical features shown during the experiments. 展开更多

The results showed that the faster the cooling of the low-Cohydrogen storage alloy is, the better homogeneity of the chemical composition for the alloy and thelonger cycle life of the battery are, but the electrochemical discharge capacity and high-ratedischarge ability are reduced. The high-rate discharge ability and charge retention of MH-Nibatteries for the conventional as-cast annealed low-Co hydrogen storage alloy were superior to thosefor the rapidly quenched low-Co hydrogen storage alloy and the high-Co hydrogen storage alloy, buta little inferior in the cycle life. 展开更多

The localized shear deformation in the 2024 and 2124 Al matrix composites reinforced with SiC particles was investigated with a split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) at a strain rate of about 2.0×103 s-1. The results showed that the occurrence of localized shear deformation is sensitive to the size of SiC particles. It was found that the critical strain, at which the shear localization occurs, strongly depends on the size and volume fraction of SiC particles. The smaller the particle size, the lower the critical strain required for the shear localization. TEM examinations revealed that Al/SiCp interfaces are the main sources of dislocations. The dislocation density near the interface was found to be high and it decreases with the distance from the particles. The Al matrix in shear bands was highly deformed and severely elongated at low angle boundaries. The AI/SiCp interfaces, particularly the sharp corners of SiC particles, provide the sites for microcrack initiation. Eventual fracture is caused by the growth and coalescence of microcracks along the shear bands. It is proposed that the distortion free equiaxed grains with low dislocation density observed in the center of shear band result from recrystallization during dynamic deformation. 展开更多

The results show that the twinning is a major mode of deformation, and the distortion-free grains in the bands with the size of 10μm in diameter were proposed to be the re-crystallization during dynamic explosion. The further observations show that the α→α2 phase transformation may occur in the bands, and this kind of transformation could be confirmed by its dark field image and electron diffraction analysis. Analysis shows that there is specified orientation between the α and α2 Phases. 展开更多

The internal friction and Young's modulus of this kind of surface nanocrystallized material were dynamically measured by means of the vibrating reed apparatus. The results implied that different treatment time could induce different microstructure and distribution characteristic of defects in this kind of materials. It is also demonstrated that there is a transition layer between the nano-layer on surface and the coarse grain region inside. The transition layer obviously has certain influence on the overall mechanical properties. 展开更多

The effect of a sputtered Ti-48AI-8Cr-2Ag (at. pct) coating on the oxidation resistance of the cast Ti-46.5AI-5Nb (at. pct) alloy was investigated in air at 1000-1100℃. Hot corrosion in molten 75 wt pct Na2SO4+25 wt pct K2SO4 was investigated at 900℃. The scale on the cast TiAINb tends to spall in air, while the scale on coating is very adherent. The sputtered Ti-48AI-8Cr-2Ag coating remarkably improved high temperature oxidation resistance of the cast Ti-46.5AI-5Nb alloy because of the formation of an adherent Al2O3 scale. Due to the inward diffusion of Cr, Kirkendall voids were found at the coating/substrate interface. TiAICrAg coating provided excellent hot corrosion resistance for TiAINb alloy in molten 75 wt pct Na2SO4+25 wt pct K2S04 at 900℃ due to the formation of a continuous Al_2O_3 scale. 展开更多

The wear and friction properties of Ti3SiC2-based materials were studied using the pin-on-disc method. The friction coefficient of Ti3SiC2-based material was not very sensitive to normal load, the steady state value, μ, increased from 0.4 to 0.5 when the normal load increased from 7.7 N to 14.7 N. The wear volume for Ti3SiC2 disc increased with increasing normal load or sliding distance in the tests. The average wear rate of Ti3SiC2-based material was 9.9×10-5 mm3/Nm. The debris on the Ti3SiC2 disc was essentially made up of Ti3SiC2 and steel pin materials, while the debris on the steel sliders was generally pin material. The wear mechanism was concluded as the fracture and delamination of Ti3SiC2-based materials followed by adhesive wear of steel sliders. 展开更多

A novel super-hybrid composite (NSHC) was boron-modified phenolic resin (BPR) with three-dimensional reticulated SiC ceramic (3DRC) and high silica fibers. Ablation performance of the NSHC was studied. The results show that the linear ablation rate of NSHC was lower than that of pure BPR and the high silica/BPR composite. Its linear ablation rate is 1/17 of the high silica/BPR. Mass ablation rate of the NSHC is very close to that of the pure BPR and the high silica/BPR composite. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis indicates that 3DRC has scarcely changed its shape at the ablation temperature. Its special reticulated structure can restrict the materials deformation and prevent high velocity heat flow from eroding the surface of the materials largely and thus increase ablation resistance of the NSHC. 展开更多

A NiAI-based composite with HfB2 dispersed particles has been synthesized by mechanical alloying of Ni, Al, Hf and C powders. The formation mechanism of NiAI-HfC during milling can be attributed to two chemical reactions: Ni+AI→NiAI+△H; Hf+C→HfC+△H, induced by mechanical collision in a certain period of time, which results in an abrupt exothemic reaction. Hot pressing (HP) and hot isostatic pressing (HIP) have been used to make the NiAI-10HfC compacts near fully dense. Compressive testing from room temperature to 1000℃ indicated that the yield stress of NiAI-10HfC composite is 3-4 times higher than that of cast NiAl and correspond to the MA NiAI-10TiB2 composite. In the meantime, yield strength at high temperature is dependent on strain rate, and deformation is controlled by diffusion mechanism. 展开更多

Research indicates that it is feasible to realize the self adapting incremental press bending by adopting the feature line equation. The feature line equation, which is based on the database of the status of practical processes, can be adjusted in time, and the forming precision can be improved. It is important to correctly select and reasonably predict the feature line equations to enhance the accuracy of the incremental press bending based on the feature line database and algorithm. The determination of the feature line equation settles necessary data foundation for further research on the database of self-adapting incremental press bending, and it supplies a new clue for the development of self-adapting incremental press bending. 展开更多

The present paper aims at experimental verification of a physical model proposed previously by us which is based on particle charging and repulsion in the pulsed plasma sheath. An orthogonal experiment was designed for this purpose, using the electrical parameters of the pulsed bias for the deposition of TiN films on stainless steel substrates. The effect of these parameters on the amount and the size distribution of the particles were analyzed, and the results provided sufficient evidence for the physical model. 展开更多

A laboratory study of the atmospheric corrosion of carbon steel deposited with (NH4)2SO4 in the presence of SO2 is reported. The different levels of (NH4)2SO4 (0, 15, 30, 45, 60 μg·cm-2) were added on the surface of the samples before the exposure. The corrosion was investigated by a combination of gravimetry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscope and scanning electron microscopy. A detailed knowledge about the corrosion products was acquired, both quantitatively and qualitatively. The results show that the metal loss increased and the increasing tendency of corrosion rates slowed down with the increasing exposure time. The phase constituents of the corrosion products are mainly α-FeO(OH), γ-FeO(OH), and δ-FeO(OH). 展开更多

The erosion behavior of Kapton when exposed to atomic oxygen (AO) environment in the ground-based simulation facility was studied. The chemical and physical changes of sample surfaces after exposed to AO fluxes were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The results indicated that Kapton underwent dramatically degradation, including much mass loss and change of surface morphologies; vacuum outgassing effect of Kapton was the key factor for initial mass loss in the course of atomic oxygen beam exposures. XPS analysis showed that the carbonyl group in Kapton reacted with oxygen atoms to generate CO2, then CO2 desorbed from Kapton surface. In addition, PMDA in the polyimide structure degraded due to the reaction with atomic oxygen of 5 eV. 展开更多

The hot deformation behavior of an as-cast OCrl7Mnl4Mo2N duplex stainless steel has been studied by hot compression test at the temperature range from 1000℃ to 1200℃, and the strain rates are 0.1 s-1, 1 s-1 and 5 s-1, respectively. It was found that during hot deformation there is only dynamic recovery taking place within the δ-ferrite phase, but the γ-austenite phase undergoes dynamic recrystallization. The activation energy of the steel for hot compression is estimated to be 480 kJ/mol. 展开更多

Acicular ferrite microstructure was achieved for an ultralow carbon pipeline steel through the improved thermome chanical control process (TMCP), which was based on the transformation process of deformed austenite of steel. Compared with commercial pipeline steels, the experimental ultralow carbon pipeline steel possessed the satisfied strength and toughness behaviors under the current improved TMCP, although it contained only approximately 0.025% C, vvhich should mainly be attributed to the microstructural characteristics of acicular ferrite. 展开更多
