The Pamir Plateau,at the northwestern margin of the Tibetan Plateau,is a key region for investigating continental collision and plateau uplifting.To probe its deep structure,we collected seismic data from 263 stations across 11 research projects.We applied cross-correlation to noise data and extracted surface wave dispersion data from cross-correlation functions.The extracted dispersion data were subsequently inverted using a 3-D transdimensional Bayesian inversion method(rj-3 DMcMC).The inversion result reveals several crustal low-velocity zones(LVZs).Their formation is likely related to crustal thickening,the exposure of gneiss domes,and thicker sedimentary sequences compared to surrounding areas.In the lower crust and upper mantle,the LVZs in southern Pamir and southeastern Karakoram evolve into high-velocity zones,which expand northeastward with increasing depth.This suggests northward underthrusting of the Indian Plate.We also analyzed the Moho using both the standard deviation of S-wave velocity and the S-wave velocity structure.Results show that significant variations in velocity standard deviation reliably delineate the Moho interface. 展开更多

Paleoearthquake research represents an essential method for determining recurrence intervals oflarge earthquakes.Reasonable determination of the average recurrence interval and coefficient of variationprovides a crucial basis for the analysis of the recurrence characteristics of strong earthquakes on intraplatefaults in Chinese mainland.Paleoearthquake data from 145 fault segments of 93 well-studied faults in MainlandChina were collected,organized,and analyzed to discuss the rational estimation of the average recurrenceinterval and coefficient of variation of a strong earthquake occurrence probability model.First,differencesin structural environments were used as a basis to investigate the spatial distribution characteristics of theaverage recurrence intervals of strong earthquakes.The results indicate significant variations in the recurrenceperiods of strong earthquakes in the Sichuan–Yunnan,Xinjiang,North China,and northeastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau structure zones.The Sichuan–Yunnan structure zone exhibited the shortest average recurrence intervalfor strong earthquakes,which was mainly distributed between 100 and 2000 years,and a relatively high sliprate.The Xinjiang structure zone attained a relatively balanced recurrence interval frequency distribution of1000–4500 years and a moderate slip rate.The North China structure zone showed the lowest slip rate,withthe strong earthquake recurrence interval mainly concentrated between 1000 and 4000 years.The northeastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau structure zone presented two main frequency peaks in the strong earthquake recurrenceintervals between 1000–3000 years and 3000–5000 years and a relatively high slip rate.The slip rate is a keyfactor influencing the recurrence interval of strong earthquakes,and active faults with high slip rates showshort recurrence intervals.Furthermore,the relationship between fault slip rate,fault type,and the averagerecurrence interval of strong earthquakes was examined.The results indicate a good logarithmic linearrelationship between the fault slip rate and the average recurrence interval of large earthquakes—the higherthe slip rate,the shorter the recurrence interval of strong earthquakes.Fault type also showed a relation to theaverage recurrence interval,with the intervals for various types of active faults gradually increasing in theorder of strike-slip,normal,reverse strike-slip,reverse,and normal strike-slip faults.Second,we calculated theproportions of active faults and various fault types in each structure zone that had a coefficient of variation inrecurrence intervals less than 0.4.The findings reveal that the occurrence of strong earthquakes on most activefaults in Chinese mainland satisfies a quasiperiodic model.The general coefficient of variation across differentstructure zones and fault types ranges between 0.36 and 0.44,which indicates the nonsignificant difference inthe degree of variability in the periodicity of strong earthquake occurrence across various structural zones andfault types. 展开更多

The Low Earth Orbit(LEO)geomagnetic satellites provide a large number of high-precision measurements,which are crucial for researching the Secular Variation(SV)of the geomagnetic field.We employ the combined constellation data from the Chinese Seismo-Electromagnet Satellite(CSES)and Swarm satellites to extract the SV in China and surrounding areas,based on the Geomagnetic Virtual Observatory(GVO)method.On this basis,we have developed two GVO products:the core field,and the SV series.The accuracies of these products are assessed using ground observatories measurements and geomagnetic field model.Moreover,the results indicate that the GVO products align well with the series from ground observatories and the CHAOS model.The majority of root-mean-square deviation(RMSE)values of the core field series are less than 5 nT,consistent with the INTERMAGNET standards for quasi-definitive data.In the GVO core field series,the maximum accuracy of one-month and four-month intervals are 2.24 nT and 1.16 nT,respectively.In the GVO SV series,the maximum accuracy of one-month and four-month intervals are 2.03 nT/yr and 1.36 nT/yr,respectively.The GVO SV series effectively capture geomagnetic jerks without losing temporal resolution comparing with the recording of ground observatories.We demonstrate that the GVO method serves as an effective and precise tool for extracting SV information of geomagnetic fields.In the GVO products,the RMSE of the horizontal component exceeds that of the vertical component,and the magnitude of RMSE deviation correlates with solar activity levels.With more and more geomagnetic satellites in orbit,we wish to use multi-constellation magnetic satellite data to assess the geomagnetic field more accurately. 展开更多

Bayesian-based analysis of sequence activity characteristics in the Bohai Rim region

Disaster mitigation necessitates scientifi c and accurate aftershock forecasting during the critical 2 h after an earthquake. However, this action faces immense challenges due to the lack of early postearthquake data and the unreliability of forecasts. To obtain foundational data for sequence parameters of the land-sea adjacent zone and establish a reliable and operational aftershock forecasting framework, we combined the initial sequence parameters extracted from envelope functions and incorporated small-earthquake information into our model to construct a Bayesian algorithm for the early postearthquake stage. We performed parameter fitting and early postearthquake aftershock occurrence rate forecasting and effectiveness evaluation for 36 earthquake sequences with M ≥ 4.0 in the Bohai Rim region since 2010. According to the results, during the early stage after the mainshock, earthquake sequence parameters exhibited relatively drastic fl uctuations with signifi cant errors. The integration of prior information can mitigate the intensity of these changes and reduce errors. The initial and stable sequence parameters generally display advantageous distribution characteristics, with each parameter’s distribution being relatively concentrated and showing good symmetry and remarkable consistency. The sequence parameter p-values were relatively small, which indicates the comparatively slow attenuation of signifi cant earthquake events in the Bohai Rim region. A certain positive correlation was observed between earthquake sequence parameters b and p. However, sequence parameters are unrelated to the mainshock magnitude, which implies that their statistical characteristics and trends are universal. The Bayesian algorithm revealed a good forecasting capability for aftershocks in the early postearthquake period (2 h) in the Bohai Rim region, with an overall forecasting effi cacy rate of 76.39%. The proportion of “too low” failures exceeded that of “too high” failures, and the number of forecasting failures for the next three days was greater than that for the next day. 展开更多

Basin effect was first described following the analysis of seismic ground motion associated with the 1985 MW8.1 earthquake in Mexico.Basins affect the propagation of seismic waves through various mechanisms,and several unique phenomena,such as the basin edge effect,basin focusing effect,and basin-induced secondary waves,have been observed.Understanding and quantitatively predicting these phenomena are crucial for earthquake disaster reduction.Some pioneering studies in this field have proposed a quantitative relationship between the basin effect on ground motion and basin depth.Unfortunately,basin effect phenomena predicted using a model based only on basin depth exhibit large deviations from actual distributions,implying the severe shortcomings of single-parameter basin effect modeling.Quaternary sediments are thick and widely distributed in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.The seismic media inside and outside of this basin have significantly different physical properties,and the basin bottom forms an interface with strong seismic reflections.In this study,we established a three-dimensional structure model of the Quaternary sedimentary basin based on the velocity structure model of the North China Craton and used it to simulate the ground motion under a strong earthquake following the spectral element method,obtaining the spatial distribution characteristics of the ground motion amplification ratio throughout the basin.The back-propagation(BP)neural network algorithm was then introduced to establish a multi-parameter mathematical model for predicting ground motion amplification ratios,with the seismic source location,physical property ratio of the media inside and outside the basin,seismic wave frequency,and basin shape as the input parameters.We then examined the main factors influencing the amplification of seismic ground motion in basins based on the prediction results,and concluded that the main factors influencing the basin effect are basin shape and differences in the physical properties of media inside and outside the basin. 展开更多

Local strong seismic activity shows the potential to closely follow a renewal process,which is inconsistent with the overall seismic activity that aligns with the Poisson process.Given that existing methods for synthesizing stochastic seismic event sets cannot control local seismic activity,a method based on Monte Carlo simulations has been developed for synthesizing random seismic event sets where local strong earthquakes satisfy the renewal process.This method can synthesize seismic activities in a statistical area where the overall activity conforms to the Poisson process and the major seismic activities in local potential sources or faults follow the renewal process.This paper presents long-and short-scale approaches.The long-scale earthquake catalogs are suitable for reflecting the sequential characteristics of seismic activities.Meanwhile,the short-scale catalogs focus on the impacts of specific earthquake events within a group for a detailed understanding of hazards under certain conditions,making them suitable for studies on specific earthquake sequences and geological areas or situations requiring high temporal resolution.In the applications of shortscale sequences,we find that the equivalent occurrence rate method may overestimate the seismic hazard.This synthesis method for earthquake catalogs can simulate realistic seismic activities,thereby enhancing the accuracy of hazard analysis results and is suitable for seismic hazard analysis and earthquake insurance rate setting. 展开更多

Metamorphic evolution of blueschists in the Heilongjiang Complex:Implications for the subduction history of the Mudanjiang Ocean

The Heilongjiang Complex in northeast China(NE China)separates the Jiamusi and Songliao blocks and marks the suture zone of the former Mudanjiang Ocean,as evidenced by a variety of oceanic basalt-derived blueschists.Understanding the closure history of the Mudanjiang Ocean is crucial to unravelling the tectonic transition from the final amalgamation of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt(CAOB)to the onset of the Paleo-Pacific subduction.In this study,we investigate epidote-ferroglaucophane(Ep-Fgl)and garnet-ferrobarroisite(Grt-Fbrs)schists from the Yilan area of the Heilongjiang Complex through petrological,mineralogical,thermodynamic modelling,whole-rock geochemical,and geochronological analyses.The Ep-Fgl schists preserve a peak assemblage of ferroglaucophane+epidote+chlorite+clinopyroxene+phengite+titanite with peak P-T conditions of 13.5-15.8 kbar and 458-495℃.On the other hand,the Grt-Fbrs schists exhibit a peak assemblage of garnet+glaucophane/ferroglaucophane+lawsonite+chlorite+phengite+rutile±clinopyroxene±titanite,deriving peak P-T conditions of 16.4-18.3 kbar and 457-475℃.Both types of schist record similar clockwise P-T paths,with three metamorphic stages:a peak epidote-to-lawsonite blueschist-facies stage,a post-peak decompression stage in the epidote amphibolite-facies,and a late greenschist-facies overprint stage.The Ep-Fgl schists display alkaline OIB-like geochemical affinities,while the Grt-Fbrs schists show tholeiitic MORB-like characteristics,suggesting that the protoliths represent fragments of the Mudanjiang oceanic crust.Magmatic zircon grains from Ep-Fgl schists yield protolith ages of 276±1 Ma and 280±1 Ma,whereas zircon of Grt-Fbrs schists document protolith ages of 249±2 Ma and 248±2 Ma,indicating that the Mudanjiang Ocean existed since at least the early Permian.Reconstruction of the metamorphic P-T evolution,combined with previous magmatic and metamorphic age data from rocks of the Heilongjiang Complex and of adjacent tectonic units suggests that the subduction and eventual closure of the Mudanjiang Ocean occurred between the late Triassic and middle Jurassic,driven by a regional stress regime shift caused by the westward subduction of the Paleo-Pacific Plate beneath Eurasia. 展开更多

Determination of surface-wave phase velocities by zeros of Aki’s spectrum of active-source records:Application to the dense array in Tongzhou,China

The spatial autocorrelation(SPAC)(also known as the Aki’s spectral method)of ambient seismic noise has been widely adopted in surface wave phase velocity extraction.In two-dimensional cases,the surface wave velocity can be calculated by fitting the SPAC coefficients with the zero-order Bessel function of the first kind or using the zeros of the Aki’s spectrum.This method has also been extended to active-source records.This study examined the application of the zeros of Aki’s spectra on active-source records using theoretical analysis and numerical simulation.We show that the zeros of the Aki’s spectrum should be associated with the zeros of the cosine function instead of the zeros of the zero-order Bessel function when extracting the phase velocity of the surface wave,considering the data acquisition and processing of the active-source records.The proposed method was then applied to the active-source data from methane explosion experiments collected using a dense array in Tongzhou,the subcenter of Beijing,for extracting the phase velocity of Rayleigh wave.The extracted dispersion curves were integrated with those obtained by beamforming the ambient noise to yield broadband dispersion curves at 0.3–6 Hz.This provides insightful results at high frequencies,at which less information can be obtained through the passive-source beamforming.The combing phase velocities from active-source with those obtained from ambient noise provide a better constrain on the shallow structure.Based on the combined fundamental mode dispersion curves at 28 excitation points,the S-wave velocity structure below the dense array is obtained by depth inversion.Due to the constraints imposed by the high-frequency information from active source,the estimated vS30 are more reliable and can be used to the site classification. 展开更多

Researching and comprehending the characteristics of destructive seismic motions is essential for the seismic design of critical infrastructure.This study employs historical data from the M 7.5 earthquake that occurred in 1850 to simulate the impacts of a M 7.5 event on hydropower stations located in proximity to Xichang.Key factors taken into account in the simulation of seismic motion encompass uncertainties,mixed-source models,and the placement of asperities.Through these simulations,we acquired the peak ground acceleration(PGA),acceleration time histories,and acceleration response spectra for the hydropower facilities affected by the earthquake.To perform a comprehensive analysis,we utilized a multi-scenario stochastic finite fault simulation method to estimate parameters including the minimum,average,and maximum values of PGA and pseudo-spectral acceleration(PSA)response spectra.Additionally,we assessed the 50^(th),84^(th),and 95^(th)percentiles values of the peak ground acceleration and pseudo-spectral acceleration response spectra.The simulation results also include peak ground acceleration field maps and peak ground velocity(PGV)field maps and intensity distribution maps pertaining to the earthquake.The findings demonstrate that the intensity maps produced through the stochastic finite fault method closely correspond with the intensity contour maps published of historical seismic records.These findings offer significant insights for the seismic safety evaluation and design of the specified hydropower stations.Moreover,this multi-scenario methodology can be effectively utilized for other critical infrastructure projects to derive dependable seismic motion parameters. 展开更多

Assessing the data quality and seismic monitoring capabilities of the Belt and Road GNSS network

The Belt and Road global navigation satellite system(B&R GNSS)network is the first large-scale deployment of Chinese GNSS equipment in a seismic system.Prior to this,there have been few systematic assessments of the data quality of Chinese GNSS equipment.In this study,data from four representative GNSS sites in different regions of China were analyzed using the G-Nut/Anubis software package.Four main indicators(data integrity rate,data validity ratio,multi-path error,and cycle slip ratio)used to systematically analyze data quality,while evaluating the seismic monitoring capabilities of the network based on earthquake magnitudes estimated from high-frequency GNSS data are evaluated by estimating magnitude based on highfrequency GNSS data.The results indicate that the quality of the data produced by the three types of Chinese receivers used in the network meets the needs of earthquake monitoring and the new seismic industry standards,which provide a reference for the selection of equipment for future new projects.After the B&R GNSS network was established,the seismic monitoring capability for earthquakes with magnitudes greater than M_(W)6.5 in most parts of the Sichuan-Yunnan region improved by approximately 20%.In key areas such as the Sichuan-Yunnan Rhomboid Block,the monitoring capability increased by more than 25%,which has greatly improved the effectiveness of regional comprehensive earthquake management. 展开更多

Simultaneous estimation of Bouguer gravity anomaly and near-surface density using Bayesian approach:A Yunnan case study

Gravity anomalies reflect the geophysical response to subsurface density structures.Traditionally,the terrain density is assumed to be a constant when calculating Bouguer gravity anomaly.But deviations from this assumption may induce high-frequency signals in the Bouguer gravity anomaly.This study introduces a Bayesian method for computing Bouguer gravity anomaly.It incorporates a smoothness prior for the Bouguer gravity anomaly and estimates near-surface density parameters to minimize the Akaike's Bayesian Information Criterion(ABIC)value.The effectiveness of this method is validated through theoretical model tests and calculations on two observed gravity profiles in Yunnan.The results indicate that the Bouguer gravity anomaly profiles estimated using the Bayesian approach need no extra filtering,exhibit correlations with the crustal structure along the profiles,and effectively reveal subsurface crustal density variations.Moreover,the obtained density variations offer insights into the near-surface rock density in different geological periods.Specifically,Cenozoic formations have a density of roughly 2.65–2.90 g·cm^(-3),Mesozoic formations 2.61-2.91 g·cm^(-3),and Paleozoic formations 2.61–2.92 g·cm^(-3).Magmatic rock regions generally show higher density values.Additionally,these estimated densities show a positive correlation with the global VS30 seismic velocity estimates,suggesting a new geophysical approach for seismic site classification.The findings of this study are significantly valuable for near-surface density estimation and Bouguer gravity anomaly calculations. 展开更多

The aftershocks of the 1975 M_(S)7.3 Haicheng and 1999 M_(S)5.4 Xiuyan earthquakes have persisted for a long time.The ChinArray-III dense stations,deployed in eastern North China from 2018 to 2020,increased seismic monitoring capability in the Haicheng-Xiuyan region,which can facilitate the construction of high-precision earthquake catalogs to better clarify the fault structures and seismogenic mechanisms of the two earthquakes.In this study,we selected 15 permanent stations and 37 ChinArray-III stations within 150 km of the epicenter of the Haicheng Earthquake.Next,we used deep learning methods to pick P-and S-wave phases from continuous waveforms recorded at these stations from January 2018 to July 2020.Based on these picks,we constructed an automatic earthquake catalog of the Haicheng-Xiuyan region.Compared with the routine manual catalog by China Earthquake Networks Center(CENC),our catalog contains 9.7 times more seismic events,including 98.3%of the seismic events in the CENC catalog,and has a lower magnitude of completeness(M_(c)=1.1 vs M_(c)=1.8 for the CENC catalog).The relocated events indicate that the strike of the Haichenghe-Dayanghe fault varies considerably from northwest to southeast,indicating that the fault bends slightly around the hypocenter of the 1975 M_(S)7.3 Haicheng earthquake which may act as a channel for fluid migration.The weak seismicity in the area between Haicheng and Xiuyan indicates that the fault section may be locked.Furthermore,the 1999 M_(S)5.4 Xiuyan earthquake and its aftershock sequence occurred on the Kangjialing fault and its ENE-trending conjugate fault,and the intersection of the two faults coincides with the source areas of the 1999 M_(S)5.4 and 2000 M_(S)5.1 Xiuyan earthquakes.Therefore,the Xiuyan earthquake sequence may be controlled by the Kangjialing fault and its conjugate fault.This study shows that the automatic earthquake catalog,obtained by deep learning methods and dense seismic array,can provide valuable information for fault structures and the seismogenic mechanisms of moderate-to-strong earthquakes. 展开更多

In this paper,we computed the fractal dimension of three survey areas within the central and southern sections of the Tan-Lu fault zone using fractal analysis.Subsequently,simulations were conducted to analyze the gravity response under a forward model of equivalent density changes.Additionally,we thoroughly investigated the seismic monitoring capabilities of the gravity network in the central and southern regions of the Tan-Lu fault.Expanding on these analyses.Recent gravity field variations were examined in the mid-southern segment of the Tan-Lu fault zone and its surrounding areas from 2013 to2023.The results indicate that the observation capabilities of the northern network in the study area outperform those of the southern gravity network,with the northern network demonstrating a more evenly distributed coverage.The optimal gravity anomaly recovery effect for the entire study area is achieved at a resolution of 0.5°×0.5°.With an equivalent observable signal in the range of 30×10^(-8)m/s^(2) to 40×10^(-8)m/s^(2),the spatial resolution of the gravity network's field source is estimated to be approximately 55 km.From 2013 to 2023,a significant positive change has been observed in the gravity field within the study area.The Tan-Lu fault zone plays a crucial role in governing the crustal movement in this region,with the dextral strike-slip movement trend of the fault persisting.Small earthquakes occur more frequently in the southern section of the fault zone,while strong earthquakes are less common.The alignment of gravity field changes with the fault strike indicates ongoing activity in the fault zone without any signs of locking.In the central segment of the Tan-Lu fault zone in the Shandong region,there appears to be a weaker correlation between gravity field changes and fault trends.This discrepancy may suggest that the area is locked,resulting in the accumulation of stress and strain.It is imperative to monitor the continuous evolution of the gravity field in this region to gain insights into potential seismic risks. 展开更多

Sediment thickness distribution beneath the source and adjacent area of the Jishishan earthquake: A short-period dense array study

Reliable thickness of sedimentary layers is essential for seismic hazard assessment in active fault zones, especially in regions prone to strong earthquakes. This study analyzed the seismic ambient noise data recorded by 60 short-period seismic stations deployed at the Jishishan earthquake source and adjacent areas. The base-order resonance frequencies of sedimentary layers beneath the stations were determined using the horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio method on ambient noise with diff erent frequencies. Then, a resonance-thickness formula was applied to estimate the sedimentary layer thickness at each station. Finally, the entire regional sediment thickness was obtained via interpolation. The thickness of the sedimentary layer beneath each station was estimated using the equation of the relationship between resonance frequency and sedimentary layer thickness, and fi nally, the distribution of sedimentary layer thickness in the whole region was obtained by interpolation. Results reveal notable spatial variations in sediment thickness in the source and adjacent areas. The shallow sedimentary layer in the source area is relatively thick at approximately 100 m, whereas that in Liugou Village, which is the most severely damaged area, is approximately 150-180 m. In the western region, specifically along the western edge of the Jishishan Mountain rupture and the Pourouliuhe-Cheunhua Nanshan rupture zone, the shallow sedimentary layer is approximately 30-60 m. A comparison between the distribution of seismic secondary hazards and sedimentary layer thickness highlights a strong correlation between these hazards and the amplifi cation eff ects of seismic waves. In regions with thicker sedimentary layers, ground shaking is signifi cantly amplifi ed, resulting in more serious seismic secondary hazards. In addition, the study confi rmed that secondary hazards, such as landslides and liquefaction, were more prevalent in regions with thicker sedimentary layers. These fi ndings provide an important reference for post-earthquake reconstruction, seismic risk assessment, and the development of regional disaster prevention and mitigation strategies.. 展开更多

Partitioning the solar cycle into ascending and descending phases,we examine the solar cycle distribution of the north-south(N-S)asymmetry in the source locations of super geomagnetic storms(SGSs;Dst≤-250 nT)during 1932-2018.We found that during the ascending phases,SGS source locations were predominantly in the northern hemisphere(NH),exhibiting significant N-S asymmetry.For the SGSs in the descending phases,source locations of the SGSs dominated in the NH and N-S asymmetry was only significant in the western hemisphere.For the period from 1932 to 2018,the source locations of SGSs were predominantly in the NH,and the N-S asymmetry was significant.The cumulative numbers of SGSs originating from the two hemispheres were strongly anticorrelated during the ascending phases,descending phases,and the entire period from 1932 to 2018.For the source locations of SGSs with different intensities,significant N-S asymmetries were observed in the source location distribution.Specifically,for all SGSs,SGSs with-400 nT<Dst≤-300 nT,and SGSs with Dst≤-300 nT,the NH exhibited a higher number of events compared to the southern hemisphere(SH),indicating a dominance of SGSs in the NH.From the perspective of the evolution of N-S asymmetry with the solar cycle,the source locations of the SGSs always dominated in the NH during the ascending phases.However,during solar cycles 17-19 and 21,the source locations of the SGSs dominated in the NH,while during solar cycles 20,22,and 23 the source locations of the SGSs dominated in the SH.From the perspective of N-S asymmetry for Solar Cycles 17-23,solar activity across the two hemispheres is largely balanced.However,the solar activities manifested by CMEs that can trigger SGSs during Solar Cycles 17-23 were predominantly in the NH.Therefore,factors beyond solar activity,such as the propagation of the CMEs from the Sun to the Earth,likely contribute to the observed N-S asymmetric distribution of the source locations of SGSs. 展开更多

We examined the heliolatitude distribution and North-South(N-S)asymmetry of Ground Level Enhancement(GLE)event source locations from 1942 to 2024,finding distinct patterns between the periods 1942–1979 and1980–2024.Between 1942 and 1979,33 GLE events were recorded:5 from the southern hemisphere within[S3,S11]and 28 from the northern hemisphere within[N7,N37].The southeast quadrant was devoid of any source locations for GLE events.45.4%of the source locations of the GLE events were within the latitudinal range of[S15,N15].The remaining source locations of the GLE events were distributed at latitudes above 15°in the northern hemisphere.Between 1980 and 2024,43 GLE events were recorded:25 from the southern hemisphere and 18 from the northern hemisphere,with all events above 30°latitude originating from the northern hemisphere.Approximately 44.2%of the source locations of the GLE events were distributed within the latitudinal band[S15,N15].Over the period from 1942 to 2024,44.7%within[S15,N15],63.2%within[S20,N20],80.3%within[S25,N25],88.2%within[S30,N30],and 11.8%at latitudes above 30°.N-S asymmetry was significant at latitudes above 0°,5°,10°,15°,20°and 30°,with northern hemisphere dominance.Moreover,a strong inverse correlation exists between the number of GLE events from the northern and southern hemispheres at latitudes above 0°,5°,10°,15°,20°,25°and 30°. 展开更多

Geochemistry of the fault gouge record information on fault behaviors and environmental conditions.We investigated variations in the mineralogical and geochemical compositions of the fault gouge sampled from the margin zone(MZ)to the slip central zone(CZ)of the fault gouge in the Beichuan-Yingxiu surface rupture zone of the Wenchuan Earthquake.Results show that the clay minerals contents increase from the MZ to CZ,and the quartz and plagioclase contents slight decrease.An increasing enrichment in Al_(2)O_(3),Fe_(2)O_(3),and K_(2)O are observed toward the CZ;the decomposition of quartz and plagioclase,as well as the depletion of Si O_(2),Ca O,Na_2O,and P_(2)O_(5)suggest that the alkaline-earth elements are carried away by the fluids.It can be explained that the stronger coseismic actions in the CZ allow more clay minerals to form,decompose quartz and plagioclase,and alter plagioclase to chlorite.The mass loss in the CZ is larger than that in MZ,which is maybe due to the more concentrated stress in the strongly deformed CZ,however other causes will not be excluded. 展开更多

The Surface Water and Ocean Topography(SWOT)mission represents a collaborative effort between physical oceanography and hydrology fields,aimed at exchanging detailed topography information characterized by its high precision in vertical measurements and extensive spatial detail.This data is generated by a scientific payload,with the Ka-band radar Interferometer(KaRin)serving as its primary tool.However,its smaller incidence angle increases layover regions,introducing noise during observations.Focused on four rugged high-altitude Xizang Plateau regions,this study evaluates the simulation of areas that are not affected by the Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR)side-looking mode,using simulated SWOT orbit parameters and Digital Elevation Model(DEM)data derived from Shuttle Radar Topography Mission(SRTM).The results show that the imaging mode of KaRIn induces layover in terrain with significant variations,challenging precise topography retrieval.Utilizing the left and right swaths of swOT could enhance the observations along the east and west axis,suggesting multiple observations are necessary for the accuracy of surface terrain.The detection results of the lake mask show that KaRIn is adept at monitoring lakes,though their boundaries could be affected by adjacent riverbanks and nearby mountainous landscapes.The importance of mitigating layover impact cannot be overstated for heightened precision and expanded applications,thereby raising the significance of sWOT in environmental and scientific studies. 展开更多
