Organic matter removal and CH4 production performance recoveries and microbial community changes in upflow anaerobic biofilter after long term starvation

The organic matter inmunicipal wastewater can be recovered by anaerobic biological treatment,making further resource utilization of municipal wastewater,which meets the requirements of sustainable development.An upflow anaerobic biofilter(UAF)treating municipal wastewater was established.The performances of stable operation and recovery operation of UAF after long-term starvation(234 days)and the changes of microbial community structure were researched.By gradually reducing HRT from 10 h to 4 h,the UAF achieved the treatment performance of pre-starvation after only 50 days recovery operation,in which total COD and soluble COD removal efficiencies reached 66%and 69%,respectively,and the CH_(4) production rate was 0.21 L CH_(4)/g CODremoval.The recovery performance of UAF after long term starvation showed that the recovery sequence of three main anaerobic processes was hydrolytic acidification,hydrogen-acetate production and methanogenesis.High-throughput sequencing results indicated that dominant bacteria associated with hydrolytic acidification process changed from Moduliflexaceae and Trichococcus in stable operation stage to Trichococcus and Romboutsia in recovery stage.Besides,the dominant archaea changed from Methanosaeta(hydrotrophic methanogens)to Methanobacterium(acetotrophic methanogens),showing Methanobacterium was more resistant to starvation environment.Therefore,by using UAF for biological treatment of organic matter,even after a long period of starvation,the system would not be completely destroyed.Once it resumed operation,the treatment performance could be restored in a short period of time. 展开更多

Anammox was successfully transited from heterotrophic denitrification and autotrophic denitrification in two upflow biofilm reactors, respectively. The results showed that the volumetric loading rate and nitrogen removal efficiency in the reactor transited from heterotrophic denitrification were higher than that in its counterpart. When the hydraulic retention time was 12 h or so, the total nitrogen loading rate was about 0.609 kg N/(m3·d), and the effluent ammonia and nitrite concentrations were less than 8.5 mg/L and 2.5 mg/L, respectively. The upflow anammox biofilm reactor was capable of keeping and accumulating the slow-growing bacteria efficiently. During operation of the reactor, the biomass color was gradually turned from brownish to red, and the ratio of ammonia consumption, nitrite consumption and nitrate production approached the theoretical one. These changes could be used as an indicator for working state of the reactor. 展开更多

Anaerobic treatment is the core technology for resource and energy recovery from source-separated domestic bio-wastes. The higher efficiency of an improved upflow solid reactor(IUSR) designed in this study was demonstrated in the treatment of concentrated black water and kitchen waste. The highest methane production of 48 L/person/day was achieved at the hydraulic retention time(HRT) of 7 days, while the other measures of performance at the HRT of 8.3 days were better than at the HRT of 7 or 10 days, achieving a methane production of 43 L/person/day, removal of total chemical oxygen demand(TCOD)of 89%, removal of soluble chemical oxygen demand(SCOD) of 92%, and conversion of chemical oxygen demand(COD) to methane of 71%. It is not recommended to decrease HRT lower than 7 days due to the instability of the initial period. The concentrations of volatile fatty acids(VFAs) in the IUSR were less than 10 mg/L, indicating that the anaerobic process was stable. Sludge bed development showed that sludge bed with high microbial activity was formed in the bottom and that the precipitation zone of effluents formed should preferably occupy 30% of the height of the IUSR. The effluents of the IUSR could be used for irrigation in agriculture in combination with a settling tank accompanied by disinfection to remove solids and pathogens. 展开更多

In order to extend the operating cycle of the upflow reactor for resid hydrotreating, the Re- search Institute of Petroleum Processing taking into account the specifics of resid hydrotreating upflow reactor has developed the high-performance RUF series of catalysts suitable for operation in the upflow reactor. The results of commercial application of catalysts revealed that this RUF series of catalysts loaded after optimized grading could effectively remove metals, sulfur and carbon residue from the re-siduum to provide improved oil for the following fixed-bed reactor. In the meantime, the RUF series of catalysts have excellent stability to reach an operating cycle of 1.5 years, resulting in minimization of losses caused by refinery downtime. 展开更多

Calcium carbonate often precipitates in anaerobic reactors treating wastewater with high calcium content.The aim of this paper is to study the effect of wastewater composition on calcium carbonate precipitation in upflow anaerobic sludge blanket(UASB)reactors.Two laboratory-scale UASB reactors were operated with calcium-containing influents using acetate and carbohydrate as substrate,respectively.There was an obvious accumulation of inorganic precipitate observed in the biogranules.Observations via scanning electron microscope(SEM)and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS)showed that the acclimated biogranules in the two reactors differed in microstructure.Calcium carbonate was found to have precipitated on the surface of acetate-degrading biogranules,but precipitated at the core of the carbohydrate-degrading biogranules.The results indicated that substrates had significant influence on the location of calcium carbonate precipitation in anaerobic granular sludge,which was expected due to the different methanogens distribution and pH gradient within the granular sludge degrading various substrates.Moreover,the location of calcium carbonate precipitation substantially affected the specific methanogenic activity(SMA)of the granular sludge.The SMA of the acetate-degrading biogranules dropped from 1.96 gCODCH4·gVSS^(–1)·d^(–1)to 0.61 gCODCH4·gVSS^(–1)·d^(–1)after 180-d of operation in the reactor.However,the SMA of the carbohydrate-degrading biogranules was not adversely affected by calcium carbonate precipitation. 展开更多

This paper describes the feasibility of fresh leachate treatment by an upflow blanket filter(UBF).Through dilution and partial effluent recycling,the organic loading rates increased from 0.51 to 14.56 kg COD/(m^(3)·d),meanwhile the corresponding hydraulic retention time decreased from 9.0 to 3.6 d.The reactor was able to achieve steady-state within 80 d.Based on the distribution of COD fluxes in the process,it was concluded that anabolism was the main pathway of COD removal in the initial phase(1–33 d),accounting for 57%–85%of total COD removed.As the anaerobic consortium of bacteria reached steady-state(after 70–86 d),the majority of COD removed was transformed into methane,because the specific methane yield was close to the theoretical value(0.36 L CH4/(g CODdeg)). 展开更多

With energetic ion measurements on FAST satellite, the morphologic features of quiet-time ionospheric O+ ion upflowing at altitudes of 2000 to 4000 km are drawn out for the first time. The pre-noon cusp/cleft is the predominant region of upflowing occurrence for O+ with lower energy. Meanwhile the pre-dawn sector near the equatorward edge of the plasma convection dominates the occurrence for the higher energy O+ ions. No matter whether the energy is lower or higher, the upflows occur often over a wide MLT range of lower latitudes outside the auroral oval. The upflowing within the pre-midnight (21:00― 22:00 MLT) auroral oval carrys larger energy fluxes, with extremely large fluxes for higher energy O+ appearing near the polar cap boundary. For altitudes of 2000―4200 km under observation, the ion conics occur much more frequently than ion beams. Ion beams are rarely found below 3000 km, while the conics occur uniformly over the observed altitudes. 展开更多

采用三级升流式水解酸化污泥膨胀床+A^(2)O中试装置处理焦化废水,研究升流式水解酸化污泥膨胀床对污染物的去除率及抑制来水污染物浓度波动的效果,并对比研究了中试全流程生化系统与现有系统对焦化废水的处理效果和系统各反应器中微生... 采用三级升流式水解酸化污泥膨胀床+A^(2)O中试装置处理焦化废水,研究升流式水解酸化污泥膨胀床对污染物的去除率及抑制来水污染物浓度波动的效果,并对比研究了中试全流程生化系统与现有系统对焦化废水的处理效果和系统各反应器中微生物的分布。中试结果显示,系统稳定运行后,三级升流式水解酸化污泥膨胀床平均COD去除率为57.72%,最高为66.67%,出水COD波动量为进水COD波动量的29.85%,中试全流程生化系统平均COD去除率为91.38%,最大COD去除率为95.73%,平均氨氮去除率为97.20%。特征污染物分析显示,系统稳定运行后,氰化物和硫化物平均去除率分别为81.53%和92.07%。微生物高通测序显示中试装置中具有更丰富的微生物群落,尤其在富集去除特定污染物的微生物方面优势明显。三级升流式水解酸化污泥膨胀床+A^(2)O中试工艺流程在更短停留时间内取得了更优的处理效果,为焦化废水处理提供了新的工艺方向。 展开更多

Leachate from a sanitary landfill site in Chengdu, China is treated using a hybrid-UASB reactor at pilot scale. H2S, resulting from the anaerobic bioconversion process of sulfate-reducing bacteria(SRB), inhibits the growth and activity of methane-producing bacteria(MPB)and poses serious problems of pollution, so FeCl3is used for H2S removal. The results show that the system performs well in the treatment process. COD removal generally increases with the increase in the organic loading rate(OLR), while the sulfate removal decreases slowly. As the OLR is higher than 7 kgCOD/(m3·d), both COD and sulfate removal tend to be stable. When the reactor is operated at the design load of 9 kgCOD/(m3·d), COD and sulfate removal remain about 79% and 91%, respectively. At the same time, the percentage of COD removed by SRB(CODSRB)also decreases from 8.9% to 4.0%. With FeCl3 addition, COD removal increases to 83%, while sulfate removal and CODSRBfurther decrease to 89% and 1.89%, respectively. According to the mass balance, nearly 82% of the sulfur is prevented from converting into H2S. Moreover, when the FeCl3 dosage is more than 1.6 g/L leachate, H2S can be removed totally from the biogas. Therefore, the application of FeCl3 for H2S removal in leachate treatment using the UASB reactor is very suitable and viable. 展开更多

【目的】针对生活垃圾焚烧电厂渗滤液有机物、氨氮、盐分含量高,组分复杂,调试难度大,启动周期长等特点,以海南某垃圾焚烧发电厂渗滤液处理工程为例,系统阐述了该工程的工艺设计、工艺调试、运行效果分析和经济效益。【方法】项目设计... 【目的】针对生活垃圾焚烧电厂渗滤液有机物、氨氮、盐分含量高,组分复杂,调试难度大,启动周期长等特点,以海南某垃圾焚烧发电厂渗滤液处理工程为例,系统阐述了该工程的工艺设计、工艺调试、运行效果分析和经济效益。【方法】项目设计处理规模为450 m^(3)/d,采用“预处理+升流式厌氧污泥床+膜生物反应器+纳滤+反渗透+减量化系统(处理纳滤及反渗透产生的浓水)”的主体工艺流程,出水水质需满足《城市污水再生利用工业用水水质》(GB/T 19923—2024)中的间冷开式循环冷却水系统补充水的要求。【结果】该组合工艺最终出水中的化学需氧量和氨氮平均质量浓度分别为5.6 mg/L和0.49 mg/L,生化系统对其平均去除率分别为98.4%和99.6%;溶解性固体和氯化物平均质量浓度分别为651 mg/L和198 mg/L,膜系统对其平均去除率分别为95.50%和95.56%。【结论】该组合工艺运行平稳,高效、单位水量直接运行成本为31.45元,系统回收率可达80%,产水作为电厂冷却塔循环补充用水,浓水用于石灰浆制备或回喷炉膛,从而实现废水的“零排放”。这些现场实践为垃圾渗滤液的“零排放”处理工程提供了宝贵的经验。 展开更多

【目的】冷轧含油废水中油、化学需氧量(COD)含量高,可生化性差,传统物理化学法处理冷轧含油废水存在产生大量含油污泥的问题,运行成本高并产生二次污染,而基于污水处理过程中的污泥生物减量化已成为国内外的研究热点和发展趋势。上流... 【目的】冷轧含油废水中油、化学需氧量(COD)含量高,可生化性差,传统物理化学法处理冷轧含油废水存在产生大量含油污泥的问题,运行成本高并产生二次污染,而基于污水处理过程中的污泥生物减量化已成为国内外的研究热点和发展趋势。上流式厌氧污泥床(UASB)对较高的有机负荷具有良好的耐受性,且能提高废水的可生化性,有利于解决上述问题。【方法】采用UASB对冷轧含油废水进行了预处理的可行性试验,通过逐渐提高进水有机负荷和油含量来考察UASB对油和COD的去除效果及试验过程中冷轧含油废水可生化性的变化,并探究有机负荷对产气率和颗粒污泥的影响。【结果】当有机负荷为4~12 kg COD/(m^(3)·d),油质量浓度小于500 mg/L时,COD和油平均去除率分别为77.27%和64.13%,产气率可达0.35 m^(3)/(kg COD),可生化性显著提高,且颗粒污泥粒径、污泥沉降性、胞外聚合物(EPS)随有机负荷的增加而提高;当有机负荷增加至13 kg COD/(m^(3)·d)以上,油质量浓度高于500 mg/L时,UASB处理效果急剧下降,颗粒污泥沉降性变差甚至上浮流失。【结论】UASB对有机负荷的波动和油有较好的耐受性,研究结果为UASB代替破乳、气浮等产生大量含油污泥的物理方法进行冷轧含油废水预处理提供了数据支撑。 展开更多

【目的】以年产120万t差别化聚酯项目为例,分析了锦州市某化纤企业3000 m^(3)/d污水站的设计、安装、调试及运行成效。针对废水可生化性差(BOD5/COD<0.3)、有机物质量浓度高(COD均值为8000 mg/L)、含难降解芳香族化合物及微量乙醛的... 【目的】以年产120万t差别化聚酯项目为例,分析了锦州市某化纤企业3000 m^(3)/d污水站的设计、安装、调试及运行成效。针对废水可生化性差(BOD5/COD<0.3)、有机物质量浓度高(COD均值为8000 mg/L)、含难降解芳香族化合物及微量乙醛的特性,构建一套高效稳定的深度处理工艺体系,突破传统生物法对低B/C比废水的处理瓶颈,同时实现污水资源化回用与能源回收的双重目标。【方法】设计采用分质预处理+溶气气浮+均质酸化(提升可生化性)+上流式厌氧污泥床反应器[UASB,有机负荷为8 kg COD/(m^(3)·d)]+2段缺氧-好氧(AO,强化脱氮除磷)+高效沉淀(化学强化除磷)+纤维转盘微滤+臭氧催化氧化(降解难溶有机物)+超滤反渗透(保障回用水质)工艺,并对主要构筑物核心设计参数进行系统介绍。【结果】经系统处理后出水COD质量浓度小于30 mg/L,氨氮、总磷等各项出水指标均优于《城镇污水处理厂污染物排放标准》(GB 18918—2002)一级A标准;同时,出水满足《地表水环境质量标准》(GB 3838—2002)中的Ⅳ类标准,COD去除率可达99%,出水80%以上回用,处理成本为2.63元/m^(3)。【结论】该污水处理工艺在实际应用中表现良好,能有效处理化纤企业产生的高浓度、难降解废水,具有处理效率高、运行稳定、抗冲击负荷强、运行费用省等优点,可为同类污水站提标改造或扩建设计提供指导和借鉴。 展开更多
