Previous studies have suggested that abnormal hepatobiliary system function may contribute to poor prognosis in patientswith acute coronary syndrome(ACS)and that abnormal hepatobiliary system function may be associate...Previous studies have suggested that abnormal hepatobiliary system function may contribute to poor prognosis in patientswith acute coronary syndrome(ACS)and that abnormal hepatobiliary system function may be associated with per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances(PFAS)exposure.However,there is limited evidence for this association in cardiovascular subpopulations,particularly in the ACS patients.Therefore,we performed this study to evaluate the association between plasma PFAS exposure and hepatobiliary system function biomarkers in patients with ACS.This study included 546 newly diagnosed ACS patients at the Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University,and data on 15 hepatobiliary system function biomarkers were obtained from medical records.Associations between single PFAS and hepatobiliary system function biomarkers were assessed using multiple linear regression models and restricted cubic spline model(RCS),and mixture effects were assessed using the Quantile g-computation model.The results showed that total bile acids(TBA)was negative associated with perfluorohexane sulfonic acid(PFHxS)(-7.69%,95%CI:-12.15%,-3.01%).According to the RCS model,linear associations were found between TBA and PFHxS(P for overall=0.003,P for non-linear=0.234).We also have observed the association between between PFAS congeners and liver enzyme such as aspartate aminotransferase(AST)and α-l-Fucosidase(AFU),but it was not statistically significant after correction.In addition,Our results also revealed an association between prealbumin(PA)and PFAS congeners as well as mixtures.Our findings have provided a piece of epidemiological evidence on associations between PFAS congeners or mixture,and serum hepatobiliary system function biomarkers in ACS patients,which could be a basis for subsequent mechanism studies.展开更多
Bone healing is integral to orthopedic research,focusing on the restoration of bone function through a complex interplay of inflammatory responses,soft callus formation,hard callus development,and the final remodeling...Bone healing is integral to orthopedic research,focusing on the restoration of bone function through a complex interplay of inflammatory responses,soft callus formation,hard callus development,and the final remodeling phase.While the natural progression of bone healing is a finely tuned process,it can be disrupted by inflammatory dysregulation,ranging from chronic inflammation to acute inflammatory anomalies,and by the depletion of essential repair substances under both chronic and acute conditions.Current strategies to enhance bone healing employ a multifaceted approach,including biochemical modulation of the local microenvironment through essential nutrient supplementation(e.g.,calcium and vitamin D),biomechanical optimization via improved internal fixation stability,and advanced regenerative techniques incorporating bioactive factors,stem cell therapies,and functional biomaterials.Despite these efforts,challenges persist in the precise characterization of the local microenvironment and the precise control of in vivo bioactive molecule delivery.This review comprehensively summarizes the current research progress in bone healing,providing significant reference for understanding the mechanisms of bone healing and for guiding further research.It is expected to lay the theoretical foundation for the development of more effective therapeutic strategies for bone healing.展开更多
Studies have shown that per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances(PFASs)may be hepatotoxic in animals or humans.However,data on clinical epidemiology are very limited.In this study,21PFASs were determined in patients with li...Studies have shown that per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances(PFASs)may be hepatotoxic in animals or humans.However,data on clinical epidemiology are very limited.In this study,21PFASs were determined in patients with liver diseases,with the highest median concentrations detected in the serum sample(26.7 ng/mL),followed by blood(10.7 ng/mL)and urine(5.02 ng/mL).Higher total PFAS concentrations were found in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)patients compared to non-HCC patients,with significant discrepancies in serum and blood samples.Besides,significant correlations were also found among PFAS concentrations and age,gender,body mass index(BMI),and liver function biomarkers levels.For example,PFAS concentrations are significantly higher in males than in females;Several serum PFASs concentrations increase with age and BMI,while the serum perfluorohexane sulfonic acid(PFHxS)concentrations are negatively correlated with age.In addition,multiple regression models adjusted for age,gender and BMI found that increased serum perfluorobutane sulfonic acid(PFBS),perfluoroheptane sulfonic acid(PFHpS)and perfluorohexylphosphonic acid(PFHxPA)conentrations are correlated with elevated alkaline phosphatase(ALP),aspartate aminotransferase(AST),and alpha-fetoprotein(AFP)(p<0.05).Our results provide epidemiological support for the future study on the potential clinical hepatotoxicity of PFAS.展开更多

BACKGROUND The rising number of people using methamphetamine leads to an increasing need for treatment options for this patient group.Evidence-based research on the efficacy of treatment programs for methamphetamine u...BACKGROUND The rising number of people using methamphetamine leads to an increasing need for treatment options for this patient group.Evidence-based research on the efficacy of treatment programs for methamphetamine users is limited.Due to specific characteristics of methamphetamine users,the question arises whether established treatment methods for individuals using other substances can be effective for the treatment of methamphetamine dependence as well.We hypothesize that there are significant differences between the two groups that may affect the effectiveness of treatment and worsen the prognosis of treatment outcomes for methamphetamine users compared to consumers of other substances.AIM To investigate potential differences in cognitive functioning and psychopathology between methamphetamine users and other substance users and possible correlations with treatment outcomes.METHODS A total of 110 subjects were recruited for an observational,longitudinal study from a German inpatient addiction treatment center:55 patients with methamphetamine dependence and 55 patients with dependence of other substances(“OS group”).Both groups were examined at beginning(baseline)and end of treatment(after 6 mo)with regard to treatment retention,craving,cognitive functioning,psychosocial resources,personality traits,depression,and other psychiatric symptoms.Instruments used were Raven’s IQ test,Mannheimer craving scale,cognitrone cognitive test battery,NEO personality factors inventory,Hamilton depression scale,Becks depression inventory,and a symptom checklist.The statistical methods used were χ^(2)-test,t-test and multiple mixed ANOVAs.RESULTS A total drop-out rate of 40%(methamphetamine-group:36.4%;OS-group:43.6%)was observed without significant differences between groups.At baseline,methamphetamine-group subjects significantly differed from OS-group individuals in terms of a lower intelligence quotient,fewer years of education,slower working speed,and decreased working accuracy,as well as less cannabinoid and cocaine use.Methamphetamine-group subjects further showed a significantly lower score of conscientiousness,depressive,and psychiatric symptoms than subjects from the OSgroup.In both groups,a reduction of craving and depressive symptoms and an improvement of working speed and working accuracy was noted after treatment.CONCLUSION There are differences between methamphetamine users and users of other drugs,but not with regard to the effectiveness of treatment in this inpatient setting.There are differences in cognitive function and psychopathology between methamphetamine and other drugs users.The existing treatment options seem to be an effective approach in treating methamphetamine dependence.展开更多

In this paper a new implicit surface method is proposed to reconstruct the human body surface from the points based on the combination of radial basis functions (RBFs) and adaptive partition of unity (PoU). The whole 3D domain of the scanned human body is firstly subdivided into a set of overlapping subdomalns based on the improved octrees. The smooth local surfaces are then computed in the subdomalns based on RBFs. And finally the global human body surface is reconstructed by blending the local surfaces with the adaptive PoU functions. This method is robust for the surface reconstruction of the scanned human body even with large or non-uniform point cloud which has a sharp density variation.展开更多

Thyroid function is also affected by goitrogenic substances in some plant foods, like cassava. Aim: This study aims to assess thyroid function status and its association to consumption of foods containing goitrogenic substances. Methods: A cross sectional study was done on a total of 65 pregnant women attending Sawla Health Center, South Ethiopia. Serum samples were collected and analyzed for TSH, total T4 and total T3 by using ELISA kit. Data on consumption of foods containing were obtained from food frequency questionnaire. Results: The median TSH of the first, second and third trimesters, respectively are 2.57, 1.86 and 2.42 mIU/L, which are within the reference interval (0.30-6.20 mIU/L) of the test kit. The median total T4 values (9.8, 10.0 and 10.3 μg/dl in the first, second and third trimesters, respectively) were also within the reference interval (4.8-11.6 μg/dl) of the test kits. The median total T3 in the first (2.60 ng/ml) and third (2.35 ng/ml) trimesters were elevated, but it was within the reference interval (0.69-2.02 ng/ml) in the second trimester (1.92 ng/ml). Though statistically non-significant median TSH was increased in women grouped as cassava consumers and M. stenopetala consumers while median total T4 values were decreased in these groups. Conclusion: The study subjects have normal thyroid function as the median values of TSH and total T4 were within the reference interval of the test kit. Frequent consumption of cassava and Moringa stenopetala may affect thyroid function.展开更多

The term Jingluo,translated as meridian or channel,is a core component of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)and has played a fundamental role in guiding the clinical practice of acupuncture for thousands of years.Howev...The term Jingluo,translated as meridian or channel,is a core component of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)and has played a fundamental role in guiding the clinical practice of acupuncture for thousands of years.However,the essence of the meridian remains elusive and is a source of both confusion and debate for researchers.In this study,a“4 D”systemic view on the essence of the meridian,namely substantial,functional,chronological,and cultural dimensions,was proposed based on a review of the ancient medical classics,recent research developments,and results from clinical practice.Previous studies have primarily focused on the substantial dimension of the meridian system,with scant interpretation about its functional domain.Neither systemic data nor evaluations have been adequately documented.Additionally,a limited but increasing number of studies have focused on the chronological and cultural dimensions.More investigations that embody the holistic concept of TCM and integrate the systemic modes and advanced techniques with dominant diseases of TCM need to be performed to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of the essence of meridians.The goal of this study is to yield useful information in understanding the essence of meridians and provide a reference and perspective for further research.展开更多

Subjective visual vertical(SVV)and subjective visual horizontal(SVH)tests can be used to evaluate the perception of verticality and horizontality,respectively,and can aid the diagnosis of otolith dysfunction in clinic...Subjective visual vertical(SVV)and subjective visual horizontal(SVH)tests can be used to evaluate the perception of verticality and horizontality,respectively,and can aid the diagnosis of otolith dysfunction in clinical practice.In this study,SVV and SVH screen version tests are implemented using virtual reality(VR)equipment;the proposed test method promotes a more immersive feeling for the subject while using a simple equipment configuration and possessing excellent mobility.To verify the performance of the proposed VR-based SVV and SVH tests,a reliable comparison was made between the traditional screen-based SVV and SVH tests and the proposed method,based on 30 healthy subjects.The average results of our experimental tests on the VR-based binocular SVV and SVH equipment were−0.15◦±1.74 and 0.60◦±1.18,respectively.The proposed VR-based method satisfies the normal tolerance for horizontal or vertical lines,i.e.,a±3◦error,as defined in previous studies,and it can be used to replace existing test methods.展开更多
This study aimed to analyze the influence of lactic acid bacteria fermentation on the aroma composition and functional composition of apple juice,selected Lactobacillus reuteri to ferment apple juice,used HS-SPME-GC-M...This study aimed to analyze the influence of lactic acid bacteria fermentation on the aroma composition and functional composition of apple juice,selected Lactobacillus reuteri to ferment apple juice,used HS-SPME-GC-MS and HPLC to analyze the changes of volatile aroma composition,organic acids and phenols after fermentation.The results showed the best fermentation time was about 18 h;The type and content of volatile substances(mainly alcohols and esters)in fermented juice changed and affected the overall aroma;The content of organic acids such as succinic acid,tartaric acid,malic acid and pyruvic acid affected the taste and flavor;The content of polyphenols such as gallic acid and protocatechuic acid increased,which enhanced the antioxidant capacity and functionality of fermented juice.This result showed the positive effect of fermentation on juice and provided a reference for the subsequent research on the aroma and functional composition of apple juice.展开更多

Not only are edible insects abundant in nutrient value, but also have numbers of functional substances, which could provide a multiple valuable benefits for humans. This review examines and summarizes the functional substances in edible insects and their special effects for people, as well as the use and prospects for these functional substances. There are many functional substances in edible insects, such as antimicrobial peptides, interferon, sex attractant hormones, cordycepin, active polysaccharides, microelement, chitin/chitosan, steroidal material, vitamin, lecithin, etc., which could provide multiple benefits for human beings. These special functional substances could help people enhance immunity, inhibit tumor, regulate intestinal function, relieve fatigue, anti oxidation, protect against colds, improve sleeping, promote the growth and development, as well as reducing blood sugar and blood pressure, among others. According to these valuable efficacies, the functional substances extracted from edible insects can be exploited mainly in three ways: edible insects are used to discover new medicines or health care products for people;and edible insects are applied in chemical, agricultural, food technology, pollutant treatment and textile sectors;as well as being consumed as animal feedstuff for livestock and other animals, which indirectly meet the different requirements for humans. Currently, edible insects have generated global interest to be developed as different forms of products and has promoted more research and development. However, pupae and larvae are still the main consumption ways in the market, which is unacceptable to most people. 文摘BACKGROUND The rising number of people using methamphetamine leads to an increasing need for treatment options for this patient group.Evidence-based research on the efficacy of treatment programs for methamphetamine users is limited.Due to specific characteristics of methamphetamine users,the question arises whether established treatment methods for individuals using other substances can be effective for the treatment of methamphetamine dependence as well.We hypothesize that there are significant differences between the two groups that may affect the effectiveness of treatment and worsen the prognosis of treatment outcomes for methamphetamine users compared to consumers of other substances.AIM To investigate potential differences in cognitive functioning and psychopathology between methamphetamine users and other substance users and possible correlations with treatment outcomes.METHODS A total of 110 subjects were recruited for an observational,longitudinal study from a German inpatient addiction treatment center:55 patients with methamphetamine dependence and 55 patients with dependence of other substances(“OS group”).Both groups were examined at beginning(baseline)and end of treatment(after 6 mo)with regard to treatment retention,craving,cognitive functioning,psychosocial resources,personality traits,depression,and other psychiatric symptoms.Instruments used were Raven’s IQ test,Mannheimer craving scale,cognitrone cognitive test battery,NEO personality factors inventory,Hamilton depression scale,Becks depression inventory,and a symptom checklist.The statistical methods used were χ^(2)-test,t-test and multiple mixed ANOVAs.RESULTS A total drop-out rate of 40%(methamphetamine-group:36.4%;OS-group:43.6%)was observed without significant differences between groups.At baseline,methamphetamine-group subjects significantly differed from OS-group individuals in terms of a lower intelligence quotient,fewer years of education,slower working speed,and decreased working accuracy,as well as less cannabinoid and cocaine use.Methamphetamine-group subjects further showed a significantly lower score of conscientiousness,depressive,and psychiatric symptoms than subjects from the OSgroup.In both groups,a reduction of craving and depressive symptoms and an improvement of working speed and working accuracy was noted after treatment.CONCLUSION There are differences between methamphetamine users and users of other drugs,but not with regard to the effectiveness of treatment in this inpatient setting.There are differences in cognitive function and psychopathology between methamphetamine and other drugs users.The existing treatment options seem to be an effective approach in treating methamphetamine dependence.

文摘It is important to reconstruct a continuous surface representation of the point cloud scanned from a human body. In this paper a new implicit surface method is proposed to reconstruct the human body surface from the points based on the combination of radial basis functions (RBFs) and adaptive partition of unity (PoU). The whole 3D domain of the scanned human body is firstly subdivided into a set of overlapping subdomalns based on the improved octrees. The smooth local surfaces are then computed in the subdomalns based on RBFs. And finally the global human body surface is reconstructed by blending the local surfaces with the adaptive PoU functions. This method is robust for the surface reconstruction of the scanned human body even with large or non-uniform point cloud which has a sharp density variation.
文摘Background: Pregnancy is associated with the change in thyroid function. Thyroid function is also affected by goitrogenic substances in some plant foods, like cassava. Aim: This study aims to assess thyroid function status and its association to consumption of foods containing goitrogenic substances. Methods: A cross sectional study was done on a total of 65 pregnant women attending Sawla Health Center, South Ethiopia. Serum samples were collected and analyzed for TSH, total T4 and total T3 by using ELISA kit. Data on consumption of foods containing were obtained from food frequency questionnaire. Results: The median TSH of the first, second and third trimesters, respectively are 2.57, 1.86 and 2.42 mIU/L, which are within the reference interval (0.30-6.20 mIU/L) of the test kit. The median total T4 values (9.8, 10.0 and 10.3 μg/dl in the first, second and third trimesters, respectively) were also within the reference interval (4.8-11.6 μg/dl) of the test kits. The median total T3 in the first (2.60 ng/ml) and third (2.35 ng/ml) trimesters were elevated, but it was within the reference interval (0.69-2.02 ng/ml) in the second trimester (1.92 ng/ml). Though statistically non-significant median TSH was increased in women grouped as cassava consumers and M. stenopetala consumers while median total T4 values were decreased in these groups. Conclusion: The study subjects have normal thyroid function as the median values of TSH and total T4 were within the reference interval of the test kit. Frequent consumption of cassava and Moringa stenopetala may affect thyroid function.

文摘Current research on the effects of different grains on muscle function and their underlying improvement mechanisms remains insufficient.This review systematically explores the impact of various grain species(wheat,highland barley,oats,buckwheat,and sorghum)and their processing methods on muscle function,as well as potential improvement strategies.In modern society,high-sugar and high-fat diets have contributed to the rising prevalence of obesity,diabetes,and muscle dysfunction among young adults.As an essential component of a healthy diet,grains play a crucial role in maintaining and improving muscle function,making grain-based di-etary interventions a key preventive measure against these conditions.Although grains are rich in various nu-trients beneficial to muscle function,their bioavailability is relatively low,which limits their potential efficacy in muscle function improvement.Anti-nutritional factors in grains-such as phytic acid,tannins,and trypsin inhibitors-bind to minerals,proteins,and other nutrients,forming complexes that are difficult for the body to absorb,thereby reducing nutrient utilization.Thus,enhancing the bioavailability of grain-derived nutrients is critical for maximizing their benefits on muscle function.Techniques such as sprouting,fermentation,thermal processing,and gene editing can significantly improve the nutritional profile of grains,thereby enhancing their positive effects on muscle function.

文摘The term Jingluo,translated as meridian or channel,is a core component of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)and has played a fundamental role in guiding the clinical practice of acupuncture for thousands of years.However,the essence of the meridian remains elusive and is a source of both confusion and debate for researchers.In this study,a“4 D”systemic view on the essence of the meridian,namely substantial,functional,chronological,and cultural dimensions,was proposed based on a review of the ancient medical classics,recent research developments,and results from clinical practice.Previous studies have primarily focused on the substantial dimension of the meridian system,with scant interpretation about its functional domain.Neither systemic data nor evaluations have been adequately documented.Additionally,a limited but increasing number of studies have focused on the chronological and cultural dimensions.More investigations that embody the holistic concept of TCM and integrate the systemic modes and advanced techniques with dominant diseases of TCM need to be performed to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of the essence of meridians.The goal of this study is to yield useful information in understanding the essence of meridians and provide a reference and perspective for further research.

文摘A partition of unity level set method with moving knot Compactly Supported Radial Basis Functions(CS-RBFs)is proposed for optimizing variable stiffness composite structures.The iso-contours of a level set function are utilized to represent the curved fiber paths,and the tan-gent vector of the iso-contour defines the orientation of fiber.The level set function of the full design domain is constructed according to the Partition of Unity(POU)method by a set of local level set functions defined on an array of overlapping subdomains,and they are constructed by using the CS-RBFs.The positions of knots are iteratively changed during the optimization to improve the performance of composite structures.Several examples of compliance minimization are presented.

文摘For decades the ecologists are using the same methods in order to determine the environmental health of a community,however,the crescent need on defining how these processes act,triggered the development of new methods that could classify the organisms and their function at the habitats.Here we used the anuran larvae to understand the effects of an environmental gradient on the structure and organization of the anuran assemblages along it,and to access in a realistic form,the actual state of preservation of the la rgest remnant of Atlantic Rainforest on the Southernmost portion of Brazil.We found that despite the higher diversity of species and the conservation unit status of the place,the ecosystem itself is still in danger,given the low number of functional groups and thus a higher number of ecosystem services that can be lost.

文摘In this paper,we propose a novel image interpolation method by using Gaussian-Sinc automatic interpolators with partition of unity property.A comprehensive comparison is made with classical image interpolation methods,such as the bicubic interpolation,Lanczos interpolation,cubic Schaum interpolation,cubic B-spline interpolation and cubic Moms interpolation.The experimental results show the effectiveness of the improved image interpolation method via some image quality metrics such as PSNR and SSIM.

文摘Subjective visual vertical(SVV)and subjective visual horizontal(SVH)tests can be used to evaluate the perception of verticality and horizontality,respectively,and can aid the diagnosis of otolith dysfunction in clinical practice.In this study,SVV and SVH screen version tests are implemented using virtual reality(VR)equipment;the proposed test method promotes a more immersive feeling for the subject while using a simple equipment configuration and possessing excellent mobility.To verify the performance of the proposed VR-based SVV and SVH tests,a reliable comparison was made between the traditional screen-based SVV and SVH tests and the proposed method,based on 30 healthy subjects.The average results of our experimental tests on the VR-based binocular SVV and SVH equipment were−0.15◦±1.74 and 0.60◦±1.18,respectively.The proposed VR-based method satisfies the normal tolerance for horizontal or vertical lines,i.e.,a±3◦error,as defined in previous studies,and it can be used to replace existing test methods.

文摘This study aimed to analyze the influence of lactic acid bacteria fermentation on the aroma composition and functional composition of apple juice,selected Lactobacillus reuteri to ferment apple juice,used HS-SPME-GC-MS and HPLC to analyze the changes of volatile aroma composition,organic acids and phenols after fermentation.The results showed the best fermentation time was about 18 h;The type and content of volatile substances(mainly alcohols and esters)in fermented juice changed and affected the overall aroma;The content of organic acids such as succinic acid,tartaric acid,malic acid and pyruvic acid affected the taste and flavor;The content of polyphenols such as gallic acid and protocatechuic acid increased,which enhanced the antioxidant capacity and functionality of fermented juice.This result showed the positive effect of fermentation on juice and provided a reference for the subsequent research on the aroma and functional composition of apple juice.

文摘Edible insects as food have been considered as a core future protein source. Not only are edible insects abundant in nutrient value, but also have numbers of functional substances, which could provide a multiple valuable benefits for humans. This review examines and summarizes the functional substances in edible insects and their special effects for people, as well as the use and prospects for these functional substances. There are many functional substances in edible insects, such as antimicrobial peptides, interferon, sex attractant hormones, cordycepin, active polysaccharides, microelement, chitin/chitosan, steroidal material, vitamin, lecithin, etc., which could provide multiple benefits for human beings. These special functional substances could help people enhance immunity, inhibit tumor, regulate intestinal function, relieve fatigue, anti oxidation, protect against colds, improve sleeping, promote the growth and development, as well as reducing blood sugar and blood pressure, among others. According to these valuable efficacies, the functional substances extracted from edible insects can be exploited mainly in three ways: edible insects are used to discover new medicines or health care products for people;and edible insects are applied in chemical, agricultural, food technology, pollutant treatment and textile sectors;as well as being consumed as animal feedstuff for livestock and other animals, which indirectly meet the different requirements for humans. Currently, edible insects have generated global interest to be developed as different forms of products and has promoted more research and development. However, pupae and larvae are still the main consumption ways in the market, which is unacceptable to most people. It is expected that the edible insect industry would be prosperous and sustainable by integrating the power of beneficial policies and regulations, huge consumer demand and proper strategies of promotion and production.

文摘In this paper, we consider a discrete competitive system with BeddingtonDe Angelis functional response and the effect of toxic substances. By constructing some suitable Lyapunov type extinction functions, sufficient conditions which guarantee the extinction of a species and global attractivity of the other one are obtained. Our results not only supplement and improve but also generalize some existing ones. Numerical simulations show the feasibility of our results.
