Jātaka story paintings are common narrative subjects in Dunhuang murals.Based on corresponding scriptures,they present all kinds of good deeds that Sakyamuni sacrificed his life to save sentient beings in his previou...Jātaka story paintings are common narrative subjects in Dunhuang murals.Based on corresponding scriptures,they present all kinds of good deeds that Sakyamuni sacrificed his life to save sentient beings in his previous life.Dunhuang Jātaka story paintings are highly consistent with the scriptures in content,but their intuitiveness and expressiveness are more prominent.By comparing the narrative relationship between Jātaka story paintings in the Mogao Grottoes of Dunhuang and their corresponding scriptures,this study finds that the two have unity in reproducing artistic images and restoring key plots of classic Buddhist scripture stories,but there are great differences in the narrative effect.Dunhuang Jātaka story paintings have three prominent features in narrative,including visualization of key elements,concretization of expressions and movements,and contextualization of cause and effect.This study aims to reveal the intertextual narrative relationship between Dunhuang Jātaka story paintings and their corresponding scriptures.展开更多

This study employs the framework of translator behavior criticism to conduct a systematic examination of Julia Lovell’s English translation of The True Story of Ah Q,utilizing the“intra-translation and extra-transla...This study employs the framework of translator behavior criticism to conduct a systematic examination of Julia Lovell’s English translation of The True Story of Ah Q,utilizing the“intra-translation and extra-translation dichotomy.”The research investigates how extra-translation factors—such as the translator’s identity,translation motivations,and target readership positioning—shape the formation of the translated text.Through an analysis of intra-translation elements,including linguistic stylistic features,strategies for handling culture-loaded terms,and the use of paratexts,the study reveals the dynamic balance of Lovell’s translation within the“truth-seeking—utility-attaining”continuum.The findings demonstrate that as a Western sinologist-translator,Julia Lovell’s cultural identity,combined with the market-oriented approach of Penguin Books,has collectively shaped a distinctly“reader-oriented”characteristic in her translation.In rendering culture-specific items,she predominantly adopts domesticating strategies,enhancing readability through simplified sentence structures and other accessibility measures to achieve utilitarian goals.Simultaneously,the translator retains an appropriate degree of foreignness in the treatment of key cultural concepts,reflecting a dialectical balance between“authorial fidelity”and“reader adaptation.”展开更多
To meet the demands for large space and flexible compartmentation ofbuildings, laminated vierendeel trasses are adopted in high-position transfer story structures.First the bearing characteristics are analyzed, in whi...To meet the demands for large space and flexible compartmentation ofbuildings, laminated vierendeel trasses are adopted in high-position transfer story structures.First the bearing characteristics are analyzed, in which reasonable stiffness ratio of the upperchord, middle chord, and lower chord is derived. Then combined with an actual engineering model (1:8similar ratio), the static loading and pseudo-dynamic tests of two models for laminated vierendeeltrass used in transfer story structures are conducted, in which one model adopts reinforcedconcrete, and the other adopts prestressed concrete and shape steel concrete. Seismic behaviors areanalyzed, including inter-story displacement, base shear-displacement skeleton curves, andequivalent viscosity-damping curves. A program is programmed to carry out the elasto-plastic dynamicanalysis, and displacement time-history curves of the two models are derived. The test and analysisresults show that the laminated vierendeel trass with prestressed concrete and shape steel concretehas excellent seismic behaviors. It can solve the disadvantages of laminated vierendeel trussesused in transfer story structures. Finally, some design suggestions are put forward, which can bereferenced by similar engineering.展开更多

In the study of two similar literature masterpieces, A Dream in Red Mansions and The Story of Genji, garden planning, plant selection, aesthetic conception, descriptions about gardens, religious elements, architectura...In the study of two similar literature masterpieces, A Dream in Red Mansions and The Story of Genji, garden planning, plant selection, aesthetic conception, descriptions about gardens, religious elements, architectural decorations and touring ways in both works were comparatively analyzed. Differences in geological conditions, social backgrounds, aesthetic traditions and religious beliefs led to different development trends of gardens in China and Japan. Chinese gardens were largely influenced by humanistic and cultural elements, famous for poetic and artistic conceptions, while Japanese gardens covered by religious colors, and most of its private gardens built with Buddhist preferences just like temple gardens. Chinese gardens valued the application of diversified plant species, while Japanese gardens favored evergreen plants, not flowers. Chinese preferred sightseeing in scenery, but Japanese preferred meditation, which means that, there were different touring ways in two countries. In conclusion, social and cultural differences contributed to the literati garden with profound humanity background in China and the Buddhist garden of religious colors in Japan.展开更多
