However, there is little metabolic profile data available about Korean Hanwoo cows. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the reference intervals of metabolic profile for Korean Hanwoo cows. Methods: Healthy animals (2,205) were selected and divided into early (day 1 to 95), middle (day 96 to 190) and late (day 191 to 285) period according to their gestating period. Metabolic profile including total protein (TP), albumin (AIb), urea (UREA), glucose (Glu), total cholesterol (T-Cho), long-chain fatty acid (LCFA), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT), creatinine (Crea), calcium (Ca), inorganic phosphorous (iP) and magnesium (Mg) were analyzed using a TBA-4OFR automatic biochemical analyzer. The data of Korean Hanwoo cows were then compared to those of the Japanese Wagyu cows. Results: Most of the data of the Korean Hanwoo cows were relatively higher than those of Japanese Wagyu cows, with the exception of Glu and GGT. This may indicate that the nutritional level of feed for the Korean Hanwoo cows was higher than that of the Japanese Wagyu cows because of the different feeding system. In particular, relatively higher levels of UREA and LCFA were observed in the Korean Hanwoo cows, and this may also contribute to the low reproduction efficiency. Conclusions: These findings may provide some theoretical basis for understanding the reproductive and feeding situation of Korean Hanwoo cows.展开更多

But the reference intervals provided by the manufacturer were derived from only 45 participants, and there was no cut-off value for transfusion for Sonoclot analysis. This study aimed to establish reference intervals and transfusion criterion for Sonoclot analysis. Volunteers were recruited from healthy Chinese adults and patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Blood samples were withdrawn from forearm vein and measured for activated clotting time(ACT), clot rate(CR), platelet function(PF), activated partial thromboplastin time(APTT), fibrinogen concentration(FIB), and platelet count(PLT). The reference intervals were determined by the nonparametric method. Cut-off values were determined by the receiver operating characteristics curve. A total of 135 healthy volunteers and 281 patients were enrolled. The 95% reference intervals were 96–195 s, 22–51 signal U/min, 〉1.6 for ACT, CR, PF respectively. In the 281 patients, the results of APTT, FIB, PLT, ACT, CR, and PF ranged from 20.5–300.0 s, 0.28–4.11 g/L,(19.0–387.3)×109/L, 80–514 s, 2.9–74 signal U/min, and 0.1–5.1 respectively. The cut-off values for transfusion were 〉208, ≤14, and ≤1.3 for ACT, CR, PF respectively. The cut-off values of Sonoclot analysis were within the manufacturer's reference intervals, while they were outside the reference intervals established in this study. The results suggested that the manufacturer's reference intervals were not suitable for Chinese. The reference intervals and cut-off values established in this study will be helpful to Chinese patients.展开更多

By a cross-sectional study, 1168 children from Iganga, a prospective site for clinical trials in Uganda, were screened. From 1168 households, 460 children were selected for enrollment, while 600 (58%) were excluded because of either a history of fever in the previous 24 hours, presence of asexual malaria parasites in the peripheral blood or presence of fever. Accordingly, 460 children (39.4%) of median age = 3 years were enrolled in the baseline study. While the lower limits of hemoglobin, hematocrit levels, mean corpuscular volume and platelet counts for the Ugandan children were found to be less than conventional reference values of Caucasisan children, the white blood cell count reference values were higher than the international intervals. On the other hand, the upper limits of the reference intervals for serum transaminases, bilirubin, creatinine, urea, total protein and albumin in sera of the Ugandan children were higher than the corresponding values for a Caucasian pediatric population. This study showed that, if hematology test results of the Ugandan children were assessed against “imported” international reference values, up to 44.6% of the study participants would have been excluded from clinical trials or would have been reported as adverse events in such trials. The present study was not only the first report of serum biochemistry reference ranges for children aged one to five years in Uganda but also one of very few such studies in Africa.展开更多

A review of the literature highlights the lack of reference intervals for 6-wk-old specific pathogen free (SPF) Hampshire-Yorkshire crossbred pigs. For translational research, 6-wk-old pigs represent an important animal model for both human juvenile colitis and diabetes mellitus type 2 given the similarities between the porcine and human gastrointestinal maturation process. The aim of this study was to determine reference intervals for hematological and biochemical parameters in healthy 6-wk-old crossbred pigs. Blood samples were collected from 66 clinically healthy Hampshire-Yorkshire pigs. The pigs were 6 wks old, represented both sexes, and were housed in a SPF facility. Automated hematological and biochemical analysis were performed using an ADVIA 120 Hematology System and a Cobas 6000 C501 Clinical Chemistry Analyzer. Results: Reference intervals were calculated using both parametric and nonparametric methods. The mean, median, minimum, and maximum values were calculated. Conclusion: As pigs are used more frequently as medical models of human disease, having reference intervals for commonly measured hematological and biochemical parameters in 6-wk-old pigs will be useful. The reference intervals calculated in this study will aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of both naturally occurring and experimentally induced disease. In comparison to published reference intervals for older non SPF pigs, notable differences in leukocyte populations, and in levels of sodium, potassium, glucose, protein, and alkaline phosphatase were observed.展开更多

There are still huge differences in the analytical methods used as well as in the associated reference intervals which could consequently significantly affect the proper assessment of patient health. In a constant effort to increase the quality of patients' care, there are numerous international initiatives for standardiza-tion and/or harmonization of laboratory diagnostics in order to achieve maximum comparability of laboratory test results and improve patient safety. Through the standardization and harmonization processes of analytical methods the ability to create unique reference intervals is achieved. Such reference intervals could be applied globally in all laboratories using methods traceable to the same reference measuring system and analysing the biological samples from the populations with similar socio-demographic and ethnic characteristics. In this review we outlined the results of the harmonization processes in Croatia in the field of population based reference intervals for clinically relevant blood and serum constituents which are in accordance with ongoing activity for worldwide standardization and harmonization based on traceability in laboratory medicine.展开更多

However, micronutrient deficiency is a major public health problem, particularly in developing countries. This study aimed to establish reference intervals (RIs) for vitamin E in black Congolese people of childbearing age using an ELISA method to provide a reference for clinically assessing vitamin E status. Methods: A total of 127 healthy people between the ages of 20 and 42 who underwent check-ups were randomly selected for the study. ELISA method measured the level of vitamin E. The effect of gender on vitamin E level was assessed, and RI was established using a parametric approach. Results: Women showed significantly higher levels of vitamin E than men (p = 0.01). The RI of vitamin E in people of childbearing age was 3.71 to 13.72, 4.52 to 14.64, and 4.17 to 13.52 mg/L, respectively, for the whole population, women and men. Conclusion: Using an ELISA method, this study established RI for vitamin E in the black Congolese population of childbearing age. We also found that women had significantly higher vitamin E levels than men. The results could provide a scientific basis for interpreting vitamin status in people of childbearing age in our setting.展开更多

Our analysis shows that the bit error rate (BER) performance of iTRPC-UWB systems can be significantly improved via integration interval determination (IID) and decision threshold optimization. For this purpose, two modifications can be made at the autocorrelation receiver as follows. Firstly, the liD processing is performed for autocorrelation operation to capture multi-path energy as much as possible. Secondly, adaptive decision threshold (ADT) instead of zero decision threshold (ZDT), is used as estimated optimal decision threshold for symbol detection. Performance of iTRPCUWB systems using liD and ADT was evaluated in realistic IEEE 802.15.4a UWB channel models and the simulation results demonstrated our theoretical analysis.展开更多

One of such patterns is monthly fuzzy pattern where the patterns exist in a certain fuzzy time interval of every month. It involves finding frequent sets and then association rules that holds in certain fuzzy time intervals, viz. beginning of every months or middle of every months, etc. In most of the earlier works, the fuzziness was user-specified. However, in some applications, users may not have enough prior knowledge about the datasets under consideration and may miss some fuzziness associated with the problem. It may be the case that the user is unable to specify the same due to limitation of natural language. In this article, we propose a method of finding patterns that holds in certain fuzzy time intervals of every month where fuzziness is generated by the method itself. The efficacy of the method is demonstrated with experimental results.展开更多

文摘Objective:To demonstrate that serum follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH)in men rises with age,and to explore FSH reference intervals of age-related partitioning. Methods:Men aged 20-50 years(n=1190)underwent semen analysis according to World Health Organization(2010)methods.Serum was frozen prior to measurement of FSH by using the Siemens ADVIA Centaur®XP immunoassay system.FSH central 95%intervals after logarithmic transformation based on age were derived from 1037 normozoospermic men. These were then applied to oligozoospermic and azoospermic men.Men producing azoospermic semen samples were further classified as having non-obstructive azoospermia by clinical diagnostic criteria, including genetic analysis and surgical exploration. Results:Serum FSH in normozoospermic men increased with age(P<0.05),and reference intervals were determined with 10-year brackets:21-30 years[(1.0-8.2)IU/L],31-40 years[(1.4-9.5)IU/L],41-50 years[(1.9-12.0)IU/L].The proportion of oligozoospermic men with normal FSH concentrations was less than the normozoospermic men, which in turn was lower among azoospermic men(both P<0.01).The azoospermic men were further broken down according to the nature of the azoospermia as either obstructive or non-obstructive azoospermia, and 86.4%(38/44)men with non-obstructive azoospermia had elevated serum FSH concentrations whereas only 6.7%(1/15)men with obstructive azoospermia had high FSH levels, and this was significantly different(P<0.01).Conclusions:FSH concentrations increase in men between 20-50 years, and clinical interpretation of serum FSH results in men must be made by using age-based reference intervals.
文摘Background: Hematologic and biochemical reference intervals depend on many factors, including age. In comparison to published reference intervals for older non SPF pigs, notable differences in leukocyte populations, and in levels of sodium, potassium, glucose, protein, and alkaline phosphatase were observed.

文摘Considering the fact that the results of laboratory tests provide useful information about the state of health of patients, determination of reference value is considered an intrinsic part in the development of laboratory medi-cine. In this review we outlined the results of the harmonization processes in Croatia in the field of population based reference intervals for clinically relevant blood and serum constituents which are in accordance with ongoing activity for worldwide standardization and harmonization based on traceability in laboratory medicine.
文摘Context: Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant and plays an important role in human reproduction. The results could provide a scientific basis for interpreting vitamin status in people of childbearing age in our setting.

文摘Background:The reference interval(RI)for serum uric acid(SUA)is a critical parameter for clinical diagnosis. However, systematic studies reflecting SUA levels across different regions in China are lacking. We aim to establish reference intervals for SUA using samples from multiple centers across China. Methods:This cross-sectional study collected serum samples from 9314 healthy individuals across 6 regions in China(Shenyang,Yinchuan,Chengdu,Hangzhou,Changsha, and Nanning)between June and December 2020.The samples were analyzed using standardized methods, and non-parametric statistics were applied to assess differences in SUA levels. Results:The analysis revealed significant sex-based differences in SUA levels. The mean SUA level was 345.3μmol/L in men and 276.9μmol/L in women. The RI for men was 215.5-494.3μmol/L,while that for women was 180.3-425.7μmol/L.When stratified by sex and age,the RI for men aged 18-29 years was 226.4-508.9μmol/L,and that for men aged 30-100 years was 213.4-485.1μmol/L.For women, the RIs were 184.1-430.4μmol/L(18-29 years),176.5-414.1μmol/L(30-49 years),183.2-422.1μmol/L(50-59 years),185.8-429.2μmol/L(60-79 years),and 194.5-478.6μmol/L(80-100 years).Regional analysis also showed significant variation in SUA levels:the RI was 194.9-496.2μmol/L in Shenyang,192.5-447.8μmol/L in Changsha, and 187.1-468.3μmol/L for the combined regions of Nanning,Hangzhou,Chengdu, and Yinchuan. Conclusion:We successfully established RIs for SUA across different age groups, sexes, and geographic regions in China.

文摘Altyn Tagh fault controls the deformation characteristics of the northern margin of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The sinistral slip rate of the eastern segment of the fault reduces gradually where the reduction transforms into the deformation within Qilian Mountain, forming a series of thrust faults and strike-slip faults.Among them, the Yema River-Daxue Mountain fault is one of the important structural transform faults in the study area.Based on the differences of the geometrical characteristics and activities, the fault is divided into four segments, the Yema River segment, the Shibandun segment, the Liushapo segment and the Baishitougou segment, among which the former three are Holocene active faults, and the Baishitougou segment belongs to late Pleistocene fault. The excavated trenches imply a total of 6 paleoearthquake events, and at least 4 events have occurred during Holocene, whose occurrence times are 8300±700 yr BP,6605±140 yr BP,4540±350 yr BP,2098±47 yr BP,respectively. The recurrence interval is 2600±600 yr BP that is close to the lapsed time of the last one,2098±47 yr BP,which suggests that the Yema River-Daxue Mountain fault is in a high risk of major earthquakes in the future. The vertical coseismic displacements of the four Holocene paleoearthquake events are 100 cm,42 cm,40 cm and 50 cm,respectively, the horizontal coseismic displacements are 5 m,4.5-5.5 m,5-8 m and 4-5.5 m,separately, and then the reference magnitude of the paleoearthquake events is conjectured to be M7.6±0.1.

文摘Integration interval and decision threshold issues were investigated for improved transmitted reference pulse cluster (iTRPC-) ultra-wideband (UWB) systems. Performance of iTRPCUWB systems using liD and ADT was evaluated in realistic IEEE 802.15.4a UWB channel models and the simulation results demonstrated our theoretical analysis.
文摘Discovering patterns that are fuzzy in nature from temporal datasets is an interesting data mining problems. The efficacy of the method is demonstrated with experimental results.
