The SAIDAR communication model for nurse-patient encounters and interactions: An integrative critical review and model development

Effective communication between nurses and patients is crucial for therapeutic interactions.It influences trust,patient satisfaction,adherence,and overall health outcomes.Various communication models have been developed over time to guide practice,incorporating fundamental concepts of therapeutic encounters;nevertheless,the majority are not designed for application in both inpatient and outpatient settings.The SAIDAR communication model is suggested to address this disparity.This review integrates elements of an integrative review with a critical review perspective to provide a narrative synthesis of theoretical and applied communication models derived from seminal works in the field of health communication.Using the CINAHL,Scopus,and Web of Science databases without date restrictions,the selected seminal authors were retrieved.Elicit,an artificial intelligence-driven research assistant,and the Google Scholar search engine were utilized together,and citation chaining facilitated the retrieval of relevant studies,which were analyzed using inductive dominant thematic analysis.Thirteen studies beneficial to the review question were included,and six themes were generated.These themes were salutation,assessing the environment,informing and explaining the task,doing,demonstrating,and performing the task;applauding,correcting,and appreciating,and reinforcing knowledge of the receiver of care.The critical analysis of these themes culminated in the formulation of the SAIDAR communication model.The current model integrates a structured communication framework that acknowledges the individuality of man and environmental assessment and demonstrates,appreciates,and reinforces knowledge.This model is an adaptable and acontextual communication tool suitable for various healthcare environments. 展开更多

Clinical Effect Analysis of Nurse-Patient Communication Skills in Dermatology Nursing

Objective: application value of nursing and patient communication skills in dermatology nursing service center. Methods: 100 patients enrolled in our hospital's dermatology department from October 2019 to October 2020 were studied, and the 100 patients were divided into two groups based on random number table method. The conventional group was given traditional nursing scheme. The experimental group trained nurses in nurse-patient communication skills. The patients' satisfaction evaluation of nursing services and the incidence of nurse-patient disputes were compared and explored. Results: the evaluation results of nursing service satisfaction and the statistical results of the incidence of nurse-patient disputes in the experimental group were significantly better than those in the conventional group, and the data were significantly different and met the requirements of statistical significance (P < 0.05). Conclusion: nurse-patient communication skills have significant clinical application value in dermatology nursing service, and have a significant effect on improving nurse-patient relationship, especially on preventing nurse-patient disputes, which is worth popularizing because of its low cost and high benefit. 展开更多

Research motivation:Through the 12 weeks dance therapy intervention for children with autism,the purpose is to explore the intervention model of dance therapy for children with autism and the changes in motor ability,social ability,and communication ability of children with autism after dance therapy intervention.The results of the research are expected to expand the intervention mode of dance therapy in my country and provide practical reference for rehabilitation intervention of children with autism.Research methods:24 autistic boys aged 6 to 12 with mild to moderate symptoms were recruited and screened through the Internet as the subjects of this study.We randomly divided them into experimental group(N=12)and control group(N=12).All children with autism have an autism diagnosis certificate issued by Children’s Hospital or a tertiary hospital,excluding other mental diseases(such as epilepsy,major physical disability,mental illness,no history of drugs and other interventions,etc.).We used the paired sample t-test to compare the score difference between the dance treatment group and the control group before and after the two groups,and used the observation method to record the basic communication behavior and the number of active communication behaviors in the experimental group during the intervention process.All data analysis is used in SPSS 20.0.Research results:After 12 weeks of dance therapy intervention,there were statistically significant differences in the gross movement,balance,and coordination abilities of the children in the experimental group compared with those before the intervention(p<0.01).There was no significant difference between the children in the control group(p>0.05).After 12 weeks of dance therapy intervention,there were statistically significant differences in the scores of the social response scale for children with autism in the experimental group(p<0.05).There was no significant change in the scores of each item of the SRS scale before and after intervention in the control group and the dance treatment group(p>0.05). 展开更多

Value of Applying Nurse-Patient Communication in Elderly Diabetes Care

Objective: to explore the value of nurse-patient communication in elderly diabetes nursing. Methods: a total of 300 elderly diabetes patients admitted by the author's hospital from January 2021 to June 2021 were selected. The group was named as the experimental group and the control group by random drawing, and the number of patients in both groups was 150. Patients in the control group received routine clinical nursing intervention, while patients in the experimental group received nursery-patient communication on the basis of the control group. The nursing staff's satisfaction, knowledge of diabetes and compliance were compared between the two groups. Results: the satisfaction of patients in the experimental group was significantly better than that in the control group, the difference was great (P < 0.05). Moreover, the diabetes knowledge and compliance scores of the experimental group were also higher than those of the control group, and the difference was significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion: in the nursing intervention of elderly diabetes, it is worthy of clinical promotion to improve the satisfaction of nursing staff. 展开更多

Objective: Reflection is a process of deliberating thinking and examining one's practice in the past and thereby encouraging nurses to make improvements in future care delivery. This work outlines a piece of reflection involving the practice of communication between nurses and the elderly, to emancipate the authors from their constraints, help to find values as practitioners, and gain a greater understanding of the nurse-patient relationship.Methods: Using Smyth's four-stage model as a guide, as well as empirical and theoretical knowledge on nurse-patient relationships, this paper presents a deep reflection on the relationship that the authors developed with elderly patients and their families, encountered during the practice as a nurse. By applying the four main stages consisting of describe, inform, confront, and reconstruct, this model enabled the authors to frame, describe the practice issue, and explore the meaning behind it, which helps to facilitate a structured reflection.Results: Critical emancipatory reflection, in association with the Espoused theory and Theory-in-use, as well as reflexivity, critical social theory, and hegemony, was applied to uncover the various power relationships and constraining forces in the authors' practice involved in communicating with the elderly, such as the underlying false consciousness, hegemony, hidden assumptions, influential values, and dominant power structure, which are subtle and persuasive. By applying this process of critical reflection, transformative practice could be achieved.Conclusions: The process of critical reflection facilitated the development of the abilities required to develop and maintain the nursepatient relationship. It helps to enhance the care of old patients and their families, which illuminates the future nursing practice. 展开更多

TEST ANALYSIS OF COLLEGE STUDENTS' CAPABILITY IN ENGLISH COMMUNICATION

While Colleague English Tests (CET) have promoted the college English teaching, they have also led to the extension of test-oriented education and hindered students' capability in communication. To examine the validity of CET Band Four, resumed tests were carried out in sampled students of Grade 2001 one year after they took CET-4 in December, 2002. The control class was examined with the original paper of CET-4 2002, while the treatment class was tested with the same paper in which the multiple-choice questions were all changed into the subjective ones. The test scores were processed by statistical analysis. The results showed that although there was no significant difference between the two classes in CET-4 scores, there was significant difference between them in their experimental test scores. The scores of the treatment class were significantly lower than that of the control class, which proves that CET cannot objectively reflect students' capability in communication, and thus its validity is low. To eliminate the negative backwash effect of CET, suggestions are put forward that CET be devised as a criterion-referenced test, frequency of the test be reduced, subjective questions be increased, and commercialization of the test be avoided. 展开更多
