Rapid escalation and release of risks to forest ecosystems triggered by warming:Insights from tree growth synchrony in temperate forests

Tree growth synchrony serves as a valuable ecological indicator of forest resilience to climate stress and disturbances.However,our understanding of how increasing temperature affects tree growth synchrony during rapidly and slowly warming periods in ecosystems with varying climatic conditions remains limited.By using tree-ring data from temperate broadleaf(Fraxinus mandshurica,Phellodendron amurense,Quercus mongolica,and Juglans mandshurica)and Korean pine(Pinus koraiensis)mixed forests in northeast China,we investigated the effects of climate change,particularly warming,on the growth synchrony of five dominant temperate tree species across contrasting warm-dry and cool-wet climate conditions.Results show that temperature over water availability was the primary factor driving the growth and growth synchrony of the five species.Growth synchrony was significantly higher in warm-dry than in cool-wet areas,primarily due to more uniform climate conditions and higher climate sensitivity in the former.Rapid warming from the 1960s to the 1990s significantly enhanced tree growth synchrony in both areas,followed by a marked reversal as temperatures exceeded a certain threshold or warming slowed down,particularly in the warm-dry area.The growth synchrony variation patterns of the five species were highly consistent over time,although broadleaves exhibited higher synchrony than conifers,suggesting potential risks to forest resilience and stability under future climate change scenarios.Growing season temperatures and non-growing season temperatures and precipitation had a stronger positive effect on tree growth in the cool-wet area compared to the warm-dry area.High relative humidity hindered growth in the cool-wet area but enhanced it in the warm-dry area.Overall,our study highlights that the diversity and sensitivity of climate-growth relationships directly determine spatiotemporal growth synchrony.Temperature,along with water availability,shape long-term forest dynamics by affecting tree growth and synchrony.These results provide crucial insights for forest management practice to enhance structural diversity and resilience capacity against climate changeinduced synchrony shifts. 展开更多

Although seasonal breeding has been documented in many non-human primates, it is not clear whether sexual behaviors show seasonal variation among male individuals. To test this hypothesis, the focal animal sampling method and continuous recording were used to investigate seasonal variation and synchronization of sexual behaviors in five male Tibetan macaques (Macaca thibetana) at Mt. Huangshan from Oct 2005 to Sept 2006. Both copulatory and sexually motivated behaviors (i.e., sexual chase, grimace, and sexual-inspection), which were significantly higher in the mating season than non-mating season. Furthermore, seasonal variations of sexual behaviors, including copulatory and sexually motivated behaviors, were synchronized among males. The results shed light on sexual competition and tactics for reproductive success of male M. thibetana and other non-human primates with seasonal breeding. 展开更多

Effects of primary PCI and facilitated PCI on myocardial viability and ventricular systolic synchrony in acute myocardial infarction patients

Objective To evaluate short time effects of primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI) and rtPA thrombolysis+PCI (rtPA+PCI) on myocardial viability and ventricular systolic synchrony in AMI patients.Methods Eighty seven patients with first AMI were divided into two groups: group A ( n =42), pPCI group, the patients underwent PCI within 6h after onset of AMI; group B ( n =45), rtPA+PCI group, the patients underwent PCI after thrombolysis within 6h after onset of AMI; Myocardial viability was measured by 99m Tc MIBI SPECT. While, the parameters of cardiac function LVEF and ventricular systolic synchrony LVPS were measured by 99m Tc gated cardiac blood pool image on the first and the fourth weekend. Results (1) The peak CK MB was significantly lower in group A than that in group B( P <0.01 ). (2) Myocardial infarction area (MIA) was decreased and radioactivity counts in MIA was significantly increased in group A and B on the 4th weekend compared with that on the first weekend ( P <0.01 ), but there were no significant difference between group A and group B. (3) LVEF, LVPS were no significant difference between group A and group B.Conclusions (1)pPCI in acute myocardial infartion can limit infarct area, maintain ventricular systolic synchrony and improve ventricular function; (2) but, in those hospitals that there were no any condition for PCI, they should transfer the patients to central hospital for PCI after thrombolysis at the first time. 目的:探讨射波刀肺部追踪肿瘤直径的范围并分析利用肺追踪优化措施对降低Synchrony重建次数的价值。方法:选取152例肺部肿瘤患者执行肺追踪放疗,按肿瘤直径大小分为10 mm≤d<15 mm、15 mm≤d<20 mm、≥20 mm3组。对肿瘤跟踪算法... 目的:探讨射波刀肺部追踪肿瘤直径的范围并分析利用肺追踪优化措施对降低Synchrony重建次数的价值。方法:选取152例肺部肿瘤患者执行肺追踪放疗,按肿瘤直径大小分为10 mm≤d<15 mm、15 mm≤d<20 mm、≥20 mm3组。对肿瘤跟踪算法失败的目标分别采用偏移模式、调整跟踪范围、调整不确定性、二次脊柱追踪辅助定位和启用建议影像/主要参考影像进行优化处理,统计优化前后3组能通过Synchrony建模的患者,比较优化前后射波刀治疗过程中Synchrony模型重建的频率。结果:优化前后治疗执行系统能够正确识别肿瘤并通过建模的病例数由10 mm≤d<15 mm组3例(7.5%)、15 mm≤d<20 mm组24例(36.9%)、≥20 mm组43例(91.5%)改变为10 mm≤d<15 mm组8例(20%)、15 mm≤d<20 mm组53例(81.5%)、≥20 mm组45例(95.7%),差异有统计学意义(P=0.047);治疗过程中不优化模型重建频率分别为3.67、1.48和0.47,优化后治疗模型重建频率分别为1.67、0.71和0.33。结论:综合采用肺追踪优化措施,能够降低Synchrony重建次数,对于肿瘤直径在15 mm≤d<20 mm左右的患者有助于治疗的顺利进行;对于肿瘤小于15 mm的患者不建议执行肺部追踪放射治疗。 展开更多

Simultaneous heading of plants within the same rice variety, also refer to heading synchrony, is an important factor that affects simultaneous ripening of the variety. Understanding of the genetic basis of heading synchrony may contribute to molecular breeding of rice with simultaneous heading and ripening. In the present study, a doubled haploid (DH) population, derived from a cross between Chunjiang 06 and TN1 was used to analyze quantitative trait locus (QTL) for heading synchrony related traits, i.e., early heading date (EHD), late heading date (LHD), heading asynchrony (HAS), and tiller number (PN). A total of 19 QTLs for four traits distributed on nine chromosomes were detected in two environments. One QTL, qHAS-8 for HAS, explained 27.7% of the phenotypic variation, co-located with the QTLs for EHD and LHD, but it was only significant under long-day conditions in Hangzhou, China. The other three QTLs, qHAS-6, qHAS-9, and qHAS-10, were identified under short-day conditions in Hainan, China, each of which explained about 11% of the phenotypic variation. Two of them, qHAS-6 and qHAS-9, were co-located with the QTLs for EHD and LHD. Two QTLs, qPN-4 and qPN-5 for PN, were detected in Hangzhou, and qPN-5 was also detected in Hainan. However, none of them was co-located with QTLs for EHD, LHD, and HAS, suggesting that PN and HAS were controlled by different genetic factors. The results of this study can be useful in marker assisted breeding for improvement of heading synchrony. 展开更多

By applying multiple wavelet coherence (MWC) to data from human body movements in triadic interaction, this study quantified triadic synchrony, rhythmic similarity among three interactants. Thirty-nine Japanese undergraduates were randomly assigned in a triad, and engaged in a brain-storming task. Triadic synchrony was quantified by calculating MWC to the time-series movement data collected by Kinect v2 sensor. The existence of synchrony was statistically tested by using a pseudo-synchrony paradigm. Results showed that the averaged value of MWC was higher in the experimental participant trio than in those of the pseudo trio in the frequency band of 0.5 - 1 Hz. The result supports the possible utility of applying multiple wavelet coherence to evaluate triadic synchrony in a small group interaction. 展开更多

Laparoscopic skills training has always been crucial for novice surgeons. Readily accessible equipment, aswell as structured training curriculum should be provided to guarantee adequate practice hours and skillproficiency. Dry-lab training is typically adopted before animal model surgery, usually comprising ofpurpose-built bulky simulators that is neither accessible nor portable. In this technical note, we designed ahome-made simulator, using two 4 L water jugs as operating space that are communicated inside, plus anobservation hole taped in between to mimic the triangular working space of laparoscopic surgery. Imagingwas achieved via smartphone camera, which was wirelessly connected to a laptop and a projector for realtime display on multiple screens, using built-in multi-screen collaboration software. A self-regulated andproficiency-based training curriculum was adopted. This dry-lab simulator is low-cost, highly portable andeasily replicable for basic laparoscopic skills training for the beginners to intermediate surgeons, whichmay serve as a good way for the standardized residency and specialist training program. 展开更多

Abnormal synchronous neuronal activity has been widely detected by brain imaging of autistic patients,but its underlying neural mechanism remains unclear.Compared with wild-type mice,our in vivo two-photon imaging showed that transgenic(Tgl)mice over-expressing human autism risk gene MeCP2 exhibited higher neuronal synchrony in the young but lower synchrony in the adult stage.Whole-cell recording of neuronal pairs in brain slices revealed that higher neuronal synchrony in young postnatal Tgl mice was atributed mainly to more prevalent giant slow inward currents(SICs).Both in vivo and slice imaging further demonstrated more dynamic activity and higher synchrony in astrocytes from young Tgl mice.Blocking astrocytic gap junctions markedly decreased the generation of SICs and overall cell synchrony in the Tgl brain.Furthermore,the expression level of Cx43 protein and the coupling efficiency of astrocyte gap junctions remained unchanged in Tgi mice.Thus,astrocytic gap junctions facilitate but do not act as a direct trigger for the abnormal neuronal synchrony in young Tgl mice,revealing the potential role of the astrocyte network in the pathogenesis of MeCP2 duplication syndrome. 展开更多

To reveal the mechanism of control of the Woolly Apple Aphid (Eriosoma lanigerum Hausm, WAA) by increase of biodiversity in the apple orchard, a consecutive two-year field trials were conducted in Yurman province, China. The results showed that the peak of natural enemy density curve in the cover cropping orchard was well temporally synchronized with that of the WAA density on trees, but did not synchronize with that of WAA density on trees in clean orchard. In addition, the frequency of natural enemies and WAA within a same sample in cover cropping orchard was obviously higher than that in clean cultivated orchard during the peak of population curves, indicating that natural enemies spatially synchronized with aphids. The density of WAA for the whole growing season in cover cropping orchard was much less than that in clean orchard. Therefore, the temporal-spatial synchrony of natural enemy and aphid populations was proposed as one of the mechanisms for aphid control in cover cropped orchards. 展开更多

Ultrasound evaluation of left ventricular remodeling and systolic synchrony in patients with primary hypertension and the correlation with serum cytokines and MMPs

Objective:To study the correlation of the ultrasound parameters of left ventricular remodeling and systolic synchrony in patients with primary hypertension with serum cytokines and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs).Methods:134 patients with primary hypertension receiving three-dimensional echocardiography examination in our hospital between May 2013 and March 2016 were selected and divided into the group A with normal pattern (n=71), group B with concentric hypertrophy (n=39) and group C with eccentric hypertrophy (n=24) according to the left ventricular internal diameter at end-diastole (LVIDd) and left ventricular mass index (LVMI), and the ultrasound parameters of left ventricular remodeling and systolic synchrony as well as serum content of cytokines and MMPs were determined.Results: The time to minimal systolic volume of 16-segmental standard deviation (SDI), maximum time difference (DIF), Tpe, Tpe interphase and its correction (Tpec), LVIDd, LVMI and left ventricular remodeling index (LVRI) of group B and group C were significantly higher than those of group A (P<0.05), and SDI, DIF, Tpe, Tpec, LVIDd, LVMI and LVRI of group C were significantly higher than those of group B (P<0.05);serum tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-17 (IL-17), transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1), matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP2), MMP3 and MMP9 content of group B and group C were significantly higher than those of group A (P<0.05), and serum TNF-α, IL-17, TGF-β1, MMP2, MMP3 and MMP9 content of group C were significantly higher than those of group B (P<0.05) and positively correlated with LVIDd, LVMI, LVRI, SDI, DIF, Tpe and Tpec;serum TIMP1 and TIMP2 content of group B and group C were significantly lower than those of group A (P<0.05), and serum TIMP1 and TIMP2 content of group C were significantly lower than those of group B (P<0.05) and negatively correlated with LVIDd, LVMI, LVRI, SDI, DIF, Tpe and Tpec.Conclusions:The ultrasound parameters of left ventricular remodeling and systolic synchrony significantly change in patients with primary hypertension and are closely related to the changes in the content of serum cytokines and MMPs. 展开更多

目的:分析Micra AV无导线心脏起搏器对心功能的影响。方法:纳入2022年9月至2023年4月期间于上海交通大学医学院附属瑞金医院因病态窦房结综合征或房室阻滞植入Micra AV无导线心脏起搏器的76例患者,其中病态窦房结综合征患者26例(34.2%)... 目的:分析Micra AV无导线心脏起搏器对心功能的影响。方法:纳入2022年9月至2023年4月期间于上海交通大学医学院附属瑞金医院因病态窦房结综合征或房室阻滞植入Micra AV无导线心脏起搏器的76例患者,其中病态窦房结综合征患者26例(34.2%),房室阻滞患者50例(65.8%)。术后随访1年,通过超声心动图评估心功能,通过门诊程控系统收集心脏起搏器参数。采用Firth's Logistic回归分析评估术后左心室射血分数(LVEF)降低和房室同步率>80%的独立预测因素。结果:随访120(87,181)d时,与术前相比,所有患者术后LVEF降低[(66.6±5.6)%vs.(63.8±5.2)%,P<0.001],心输出量增加[(4.3±1.2)L/min vs.(5.3±1.5)L/min,P<0.001]。病态窦房结综合征患者术后各项心功能指标与术前相比差异均无统计学意义(P均>0.05)。与术前相比,房室阻滞患者术后LVEF降低[(67.0±5.1)%vs.(63.4±4.4)%,P<0.001],心输出量增加[(4.2±1.1)L/min vs.(5.2±1.2)L/min,P<0.001]、左心室舒张末期内径减小[(49.9±5.4)mm vs.(48.6±5.0)mm,P=0.044]。Firth's Logistic回归分析提示,术前LVEF(每增加1%,OR=1.56,95%CI:1.12~2.17,P=0.001)、每搏输出量(每增加1 ml,OR=1.15,95%CI:1.04~1.28,P=0.001)、体重指数(每增加1 kg/m^(2),OR=1.49,95%CI:1.02~2.17,P=0.020)及高血压(OR=12.71,95%CI:1.11~145.13,P=0.039)是房室阻滞患者术后LVEF降低的独立危险因素。植入Mcira AV无导线心脏起搏器后患者的总体房室同步率为81.2%(68.8%,89.0%),病态窦房结综合征患者、房室阻滞患者的房室同步率分别为70.6%(59.5%,83.4%)、82.4%(74.2%,89.3%),差异有统计学意义(P=0.021)。Firth's Logistic回归分析提示,病态窦房结综合征(OR=0.26,95%CI:0.07~0.89,P=0.029)、术前LVEF(每增加1%,OR=1.18,95%CI:1.03~1.35,P=0.015)为术后房室同步率>80%的独立预测因素。结论:Micra AV无导线起搏器对病态窦房结综合征患者、房室阻滞患者LVEF和房室同步率的影响存在差异,术前LVEF、每搏输出量、体重指数增加及高血压对房室阻滞患者患者术后LVEF降低具有独立预测作用。病态窦房结综合征、术前LVEF增加对术后房室同步率>80%具有独立预测作用。 展开更多

为精确捕获人体呼吸过程中的呼吸肌运动信号并提取呼吸切换同步信号,本研究设计了一套基于薄膜压敏感电阻FSR402 IMS-C07A的人体呼吸肌肌动信号感应系统。该系统集成了传感器、信号处理电路和应用程序,对人体呼吸肌肌动信号进行采集、... 为精确捕获人体呼吸过程中的呼吸肌运动信号并提取呼吸切换同步信号,本研究设计了一套基于薄膜压敏感电阻FSR402 IMS-C07A的人体呼吸肌肌动信号感应系统。该系统集成了传感器、信号处理电路和应用程序,对人体呼吸肌肌动信号进行采集、放大、去噪等处理。设计以呼吸肌肌动信号感应器和STM32F107开发板为核心的实验平台,进行实验。收集了3例健康成人的呼吸肌肌动信号和呼吸气流,并对其展开对比分析,本文实验结果得出:基于呼吸肌肌动信号判定呼吸切换的方法具有良好的实时性,相较传统的基于呼吸气流判定呼吸切换的方法而言,其呼气切换吸气时的超前时间为33~210 ms[(88.3±47.9)ms],吸气切换到呼气时的超前时间为17~222 ms[(92.9±63.8)ms]。本研究设计的呼吸肌肌动信号感应系统应用于触发呼吸机输出,将能有效提高呼吸机的人机同步性,有利于呼吸疾病患者的通气治疗。 展开更多
