In the field of second language acquisition(SLA),weight has been increasingly attached to the role that a problem-pos ing model of education plays in English as second/foreign language(ES/FL)teaching and learning.By e...In the field of second language acquisition(SLA),weight has been increasingly attached to the role that a problem-pos ing model of education plays in English as second/foreign language(ES/FL)teaching and learning.By exploring various concepts of the problem-posing approach,also known as critical pedagogy,and its implications for English language teaching(ELT)in the Chinese postsecondary EFL context,the paper makes a tentative attempt to acknowledge the future directions of implementing critical pedagogy in the EFL context.Therefore,the paper is inspired by the ever-increasing popularity of the critical pedagogical approach in the ESL context.The application of critical orientation in language education derives from critical theories of the Frankfurt School,which centers on Marxist societal beliefs of struggling against social inequalities.With the concept of critical pedagogy drawing increasing attention from language educators and teachers alike in English-speaking countries;non-native English teachers who teach in the EFL context has also begun to focus their attention on the educational philosophy as a means to help transform traditional oppressed status of the Chinese EFL learners.From this perspective,this paper,by investigating the multi-dimensional implied meanings of implementing critical pedagogy in the EFL context,unraveling how it works as a way of"doing"in second language(L2)teaching and learning,identifying the probable contexts of critical pedagogy and the contesta tions surrounding critical pedagogy,aims to address the significance of implementing critical pedagogy as an effective way of re forming the ailing English education condition in China.展开更多

[Methods] With lateral buds of S. kochii as explants, the effects of such four basic media as MS, B5, Nitsch and Wpm and the ratio of two hormones(1, 2, 3 mg/L 6-BA and 0.1, 0.3, 0.5 mg/L NAA) on bud proliferation of S. kochii were studied by the complete test method, and the effect of the ratio of the two hormones(0.25, 0.50, 1.00 mg/L NAA and 1.0, 1.5 mg/L IBA) on rooting of S. kochii as well as the effect of substrate ratio(perlite and peat soil at 1∶9, 2∶8, 3∶7, 4∶6 and 5∶5) on its transplanting survival rate were also studied. [Results] The best basic medium for the rapid propagation of S. kochii was MS. The best hormone ratio suitable for bud proliferation was 2 mg/L6-BA+0.1 mg/L NAA, and the average number of buds proliferated at 45 d was 3.04. The average bud height was 2.05 cm; the most suitable medium for rooting was 1/2 MS+1 mg/L IBA+0.25 mg/L NAA, and its rooting rate was 100%; and the best transplanting substrate was 5∶5 perlite and peat. The soil ratio had a survival rate of 94%. [Conclusions] This study provides a theoretical basis for the improvement of the transplanting survival rate of test-tube S. kochii plantlets.展开更多

The aim of this work was to develop and characterize a polyester matrix composite material based on Canarium schweinfurthii Engl core granule. The particle size and the mass fractions of these cores used as fillers in...The aim of this work was to develop and characterize a polyester matrix composite material based on Canarium schweinfurthii Engl core granule. The particle size and the mass fractions of these cores used as fillers in this composite were the two optimization parameters. The experimentation of the twelve sample areas was based on the following optimization parameters: Three particles sizes of 80 1 2 3 ·m-3, which allows us to admit that this composite belongs to the family of light materials. The maximum compressive stress at break was obtained for the formulation 40% filler of size T3. This compressive stress at maximum rupture is in the range of 199.14 MPa. From 0% to 45% of filler, the flexural Young’s modulus of the composite increases whatever the particle size. The highest value is obtained for T2 particle size, i.e. 13.11 GPa. The static friction coefficient of the composite on wood increases as the filler content varies from 0.30 to 0.42. Thus, in view of the properties obtained, this composite can be used as alternative solutions in industrial applications, for the manufacturing of shoe heel, house ceiling, floors for housing and table support.展开更多

This work is part of a vast project to valorize...The purpose of this study is to determine the morphological, microstructural characteristics and water diffusion parameters of the Canarium schweinfurthii (CS) shellnut. This work is part of a vast project to valorize the above-mentioned cores for possible industrial use as charges in composites or abrasives materials. The study was based on the characterization of intrinsic physical characteristics of the coreshells scanning electron microscopic (SEM) observations desorption, adsorption and absorption kinetics. The water diffusion phenomenon was modeled and it appears that the Page model well predicted the kinetic of drying, absorption and adsorption. The effective diffusion coefficient and the energy of activation were calculated at three isothermal temperatures (50<span style="white-space:nowrap;">°</span>C, 70<span style="white-space:nowrap;">°</span>C and 90<span style="white-space:nowrap;">°</span>C). There was a tendency for hysteresis in the sorption-desorption cycles. These results strongly predicted the possibility of using these products as a filler in composites, clay building materials and cement because of their high water diffusion stability on a macroscopic scale.展开更多

Despite the growing interest in natural products for skin health,the potential of fermented Citrus aurantium L.var.amara Engl.Extracts remain underexplored.This study investigates,for the first time,the strain-specifi...Despite the growing interest in natural products for skin health,the potential of fermented Citrus aurantium L.var.amara Engl.Extracts remain underexplored.This study investigates,for the first time,the strain-specific effects of fermentation with Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum on the bioactive compo-sition and functional properties of this botanically significant material.The findings revealed that fermentation differentially enhanced bioactive constituents:S.cerevisiae significantly increased polypeptide and polyphenol levels,while L.plantarum notably elevated protein,polysaccharide,and flavonoid contents.Critically,fermented extracts demonstrated markedly improved anti-inflammatory performance.Both fermented products inhibited cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2)expression,with S.cerevisiae fermentation exhibiting the strongest suppression of inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS).Furthermore,fermented samples(D2:L.plantarum;D3:S.cerevisiae)significantly reduced key pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and TNF-α.For antioxidant capacity,the L.plantarum-fermented sample(D2)displayed superior scavenging abilities against ABTS and DPPH radicals.These results underscore that microbial fermentation-particularly in a strain-dependent manner-effectively enhances the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant potential of C.aurantium var.amara.This study provides a foundational basis for developing novel natural ingredients aimed at skin-health applications in cosmetics,functional foods,and pharmaceuticals.展开更多

Cerebrosides are a kind of glycolipids highly enriched on the surface of myelin-producing cells and are composed by CUM, 8-sphingadienine, a-hydroxy acid and a saccharide head. It was the first time that cerebrosides were isolated from this traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) by us. In this paper, C18-4, 8-sphingadienine was synthesized from D-xylose via a SN2 type reaction. α-Hydroxy add was prepared from (R )-4-hydroxyte-trahydrofuran-2-one, which in turn could be obtained from L-ascorbic acid.展开更多
