Objective:To compare the effectiveness,safety,acceptability,and confounding factors of the two-rod levonorgestrel implants between the Indoplant and Sinoplant implant brands.Methods:The study was a double-blind,randomized controlled trial at three different centers in Indonesia.A total of 531 participants that met inclusion and exclusion criteria were randomized into two groups,with 264 participants in the Sinoplant group and 267 participants in the Indoplant group.At each center,participants were divided into two groups for Sinoplant and Indoplant.The participants were followed up for 36 months.Four parameters were evaluated:implant effectiveness,safety,acceptability,and confounding factors.Results:A total of 531 eligible participants were enrolled in this study.Both Sinoplant and Indoplant showed 100%efficacy in preventing pregnancy,with no significant differences in side effects.24.22%of the Sinoplant group and 22.18%of the Indoplant group reported weight changes.8.60%of the Sinoplant group and 9.73%of the Indoplant group reported menstrual changes,and 1.17%of the both groups experienced intermenstrual bleeding.Implant acceptability was 96.61%,with 3.39%dropout rates.Confounding factors such as age,parity,and contraceptive history did not significantly differ between the two groups.Conclusions:Sinoplant and Indoplant did not differ significantly in contraceptive effectiveness,safety,acceptability,and confounding factors. 展开更多

Rechargeable Zn/Sn-air batteries have received considerable attention as promising energy storage devices.However,the electrochemical performance of these batteries is significantly constrained by the sluggish electrocatalytic reaction kinetics at the cathode.The integration of light energy into Zn/Sn-air batteries is a promising strategy for enhancing their performance.However,the photothermal and photoelectric effects generate heat in the battery under prolonged solar irradiation,leading to air cathode instability.This paper presents the first design and synthesis of Ni_(2)-1,5-diamino-4,8-dihydroxyanthraquinone(Ni_(2)DDA),an electronically conductiveπ-d conjugated metal-organic framework(MOF).Ni_(2)DDA exhibits both photoelectric and photothermal effects,with an optical band gap of~1.14 eV.Under illumination,Ni_(2)DDA achieves excellent oxygen evolution reaction performance(with an overpotential of 245 mV vs.reversible hydrogen electrode at 10 mA cm^(−2))and photothermal stability.These properties result from the synergy between the photoelectric and photothermal effects of Ni_(2)DDA.Upon integration into Zn/Sn-air batteries,Ni_(2)DDA ensures excellent cycling stability under light and exhibits remarkable performance in high-temperature environments up to 80℃.This study experimentally confirms the stable operation of photo-assisted Zn/Sn-air batteries under high-temperature conditions for the first time and provides novel insights into the application of electronically conductive MOFs in photoelectrocatalysis and photothermal catalysis. 展开更多

A review of phytonutrients and human anti-aging mechanism

Aging is a complex biological process characterized by nine hallmarks,including genomic instability,mitochondrial dysfunction,and chronic inflammation,which collectively drive the progression of age-related chronic non-communicable diseases.Phytonutrients,a class of bioactive secondary metabolites abundant in plants,have emerged as a promising research focus for intervening in the aging process due to their multifaceted biological activities.This review systematically elaborates on the molecular mechanisms,key signaling pathways,specifically SIRT1,Nrf2/ARE,and AMPK/mTOR,and the synergistic anti-aging effects of four typical phytonutrient categories:polyphenols(e.g.,resveratrol,quercetin),carotenoids(e.g.,lycopene,astaxanthin),sulfur compounds(e.g.,α-lipoic acid,ergothioneine),and phytoestrogens(e.g.,soybean isoflavones).The evidence indicates that these compounds combat aging through a multidimensional network involving direct antioxidant actions,free radical scavenging,metal chelation,promotion of autophagy,and modulation of inflammatory and epigenetic pathways.Crucially,the review highlights that synergistic interactions between different phytonutrients can significantly enhance their efficacy beyond the effect of any single compound.The aim is to consolidate the anti-aging evidence of phytonutrients and address the current translational challenges,such as bioavailability and a lack of robust human trials,thereby providing a comprehensive theoretical framework for developing effective,diet-centered strategies to promote healthy aging and reduce the global burden of non-communicable diseases. 展开更多

Superconducting diodes,which enable dissipationless supercurrent flow in one direction while blocking it in the reverse direction,are emerging as pivotal components for superconducting electronics.The development of editable superconducting diodes could unlock transformative applications,including dynamically reconfigurable quantum circuits that adapt to operational requirements.Here,we report the first observation of the superconducting diode effect(SDE)in LaAlO_(3)/KTaO_(3) heterostructures—a two-dimensional oxide interface superconductor with exceptional tunability.We observe a strong SDE in Hall-bar(or strip-shaped)devices under perpendicular magnetic fields(<15 Oe),with efficiencies above 40%and rectification signals exceeding 10 mV.Through conductive atomic force microscope lithography,we demonstrate reversible nanoscale editing of the SDE’s polarity and efficiency by locally modifying the superconducting channel edges.This approach enables multiple nonvolatile configurations within a single device,realizing an editable superconducting diode.Our work establishes LaAlO_(3)/KTaO_(3) as a platform for vortex-based nonreciprocal transport and provides a pathway toward designer quantum circuits with on-demand functionalities. 展开更多

Owing to the inherent limitation of the internal pulse ionization chamber within the AlphaGUARD PQ2000 radon monitor,that is,its inability to discriminate the energy levels of α particles,the ingress of^(220)Rn from the surrounding environment,along with its decay progeny,poses a substantive challenge in accurately determining the^(222)Rn concentration in the measurement outcomes.Among these,the protracted influence primarily stems from the two enduring decay progenies,namely^(212)Pb with a half-life of 10.64 h and^(212)Bi with a half-life of 60.54 min.This study explored the influence of^(220)Rn progeny on the measurement results of an AlphaGUARD PQ2000 radon monitor by developing a theoretical calculation model.The response coefficient related to the residual^(220)Rn progeny within the AlphaGUARD PQ2000 radon monitor was experimentally validated.In addition,this study investigated the effects of temperature and wind speed on the sensitivity of the instrument to^(220)Rn gas.The research findings revealed commendable agreement between the experimentally measured response coefficients of the residual^(220)Rn progeny and the corresponding values derived from the theoretical model.Notably,both the response coefficients of the AlphaGUARD PQ2000 radon monitor to^(220)Rn gas and its internal residual^(220)Rn progeny increased with elevated temperatures and increased wind speeds,providing a reference for correcting the impact of^(220)Rn and its progeny on the measurement results of^(222)Rn concentration obtained using the AlphaGUARD PQ2000 radon monitor. 展开更多

Population aging is one of the common challenges in the current world.As people age,the body’s tissues including cells,and molecules inevitably degrade,and their functions gradually decline,causing various age-related diseases like Alzheimer’s disease,osteoporosis,low immunity,glucose and lipid metabolism disorders,and cardiovascular diseases.With the continuous increase of the elderly population,the pressure on the medical industry is increasing.To lower the burden on the medical industry and increase the average age of the elderly,it is vital to explore effective anti-aging materials.Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma(Renshen),as a traditional and precious Chinese medicinal herb,is known as the“king of all herbs”.It is famous for its effects of“tonifying Qi,restoring pulse”(helping with the generation of Qi(the fundamental,vital energy that continuously flows within the body)and the circulation of blood)and strengthening the body,nourishing the spleen and lungs,generating fluids and nourishing blood,calming the mind and improving intelligence.Recently,its anti-aging effect has received increasing attention from modern scientific research.This study summarizes the pharmacological effects of the main active ingredients of Renshen(ginsenosides,polysaccharides,etc.)on resisting aging,including preventing neuroaging,suppressing skin aging,mitigating ovarian aging,inhibiting osteoporosis and arthritis,enhancing the immune system of the elderly,protecting the cardiovascular system,resisting aging-induced fatigue and exerting the anti-tumor effects.Through network pharmacology and molecular docking,the anti-aging active ingredients of Renshen were screened,and the key targets and pathways of anti-aging active ingredients in Renshen were determined.Using network pharmacology,totally 106 drug targets and 3,479 disease targets were screened,and 79 common targets between aging and Renshen were identified.Three core targets were identified in the PPI network,including TNF,AKT1,and IL-1β.Molecular docking was used to obtain further verification.This study emphasizes the potential of Renshen as a source of anti-aging activity,which can be developed into a novel drug for the treatment of age-related diseases. 展开更多

Landslide susceptibility on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau:Key driving factors identified through machine learning

Landslides pose a formidable natural hazard across the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau(QTP),endangering both ecosystems and human life.Identifying the driving factors behind landslides and accurately assessing susceptibility are key to mitigating disaster risk.This study integrated multi-source historical landslide data with 15 predictive factors and used several machine learning models—Random Forest(RF),Gradient Boosting Regression Trees(GBRT),Extreme Gradient Boosting(XGBoost),and Categorical Boosting(CatBoost)—to generate susceptibility maps.The Shapley additive explanation(SHAP)method was applied to quantify factor importance and explore their nonlinear effects.The results showed that:(1)CatBoost was the best-performing model(CA=0.938,AUC=0.980)in assessing landslide susceptibility,with altitude emerging as the most significant factor,followed by distance to roads and earthquake sites,precipitation,and slope;(2)the SHAP method revealed critical nonlinear thresholds,demonstrating that historical landslides were concentrated at mid-altitudes(1400-4000 m)and decreased markedly above 4000 m,with a parallel reduction in probability beyond 700 m from roads;and(3)landslide-prone areas,comprising 13%of the QTP,were concentrated in the southeastern and northeastern parts of the plateau.By integrating machine learning and SHAP analysis,this study revealed landslide hazard-prone areas and their driving factors,providing insights to support disaster management strategies and sustainable regional planning. 展开更多

Lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries require efficient catalysts to accelerate polysulfide conversion and mitigate the shuttle effect.However,the rational design of catalysts remains challenging due to the lack of a systematic strategy that rationally optimizes electronic structures and mesoscale transport properties.In this work,we propose an autogenously transformed CoWO_(4)/WO_(2) heterojunction catalyst,integrating a strong polysulfide-adsorbing intercalation catalyst with a metallic-phase promoter for enhanced activity.CoWO_(4) effectively captures polysulfides,while the CoWO_(4)/WO_(2) interface facilitates their S-S bond activation on heterogenous catalytic sites.Benefiting from its directional intercalation channels,CoWO_(4) not only serves as a dynamic Li-ion reservoir but also provides continuous and direct pathways for rapid Li-ion transport.Such synergistic interactions across the heterojunction interfaces enhance the catalytic activity of the composite.As a result,the CoWO_(4)/WO_(2) heterostructure demonstrates significantly enhanced catalytic performance,delivering a high capacity of 1262 mAh g^(−1) at 0.1 C.Furthermore,its rate capability and high sulfur loading performance are markedly improved,surpassing the limitations of its single-component counterparts.This study provides new insights into the catalytic mechanisms governing Li-S chemistry and offers a promising strategy for the rational design of high-performance Li-S battery catalysts. 展开更多

This study developed a novel heterogeneous Vis-Photo+Fenton-like system by integrating visible-light-responsive Co_(3)O_(4)/TiO_(2) photocatalysis with peroxymonosulfate(PMS)activation for efficient atrazine(ATZ)degradation.The synergistic process achieved complete ATZ removal within 60 min under near-neutral pH(6.9),outperform-ing individual Fenton-like(39%)and photocatalytic(24%)processes.Key factors influencing the degradation efficiency included light sources(UV>visible),pH(optimal at 6.9),catalyst dosage(0.01 g Co_(3)O_(4)/TiO_(2)),and PMS:ATZ molar ratio(1:2).The system exhibited a synergistic coefficient of 5.03(degradation)and 1.97(miner-alization),attributed to enhanced radical generation and accelerated Co^(3+)/Co^(2+)redox cycling through photoin-duced electron transfer.Intermediate analysis revealed dealkylation,dechlorination,and oxidation pathways,with reduced toxicity of by-products(e.g.,CEAT,CIAT)confirmed by ecotoxicity assessments.The mineralization efficiency(Vis-Photo+Fenton-like)reached 83.1%,significantly higher than that of standalone processes(Fenton-like:43.2%;photocatalysis:30.5%).The catalyst demonstrated excellent stability(nearly 90%recov-ery,<1μg/L Co leaching)and practical applicability.This study provides an efficient,sludge-free,and solar-compatible strategy for eliminating persistent herbicides in water treatment. 展开更多

Benzalkonium chloride(BAC)is widely employed as a broad-spectrum biocide and has emerged as a significant environmental pollutant.Polymyxin B(PB)serves as the last-line defense for the treatment of Gram-negative pathogens.Previous studies reported that BAC-adapted Pseudomonas aeruginosa increased the tolerance to PB.Herein,we present the novel finding that the combination of BAC and PB exhibited synergistic antibacterial effects against P.aeruginosa.Time-killing assay demonstrated a significant reduction in bacterial cell viability.Scanning electron microscopy,zeta potential analysis,hydrophobicity measurements,and fluorescence probe analyses collectively revealed severe disruption of the cell envelope and membrane potential induced by the combination of BAC and PB.Transcriptomic analysis revealed that the BAC-PB combination notably downreg-ulated the expression of genes involved in lipid A modification and cell envelope production,including phoPQ,pmrAB,bamABCDE,lptABCDEG,lolB,yidC,and murJ.Additionally,the combination group exhibited augmented production of reactive oxygen species and diminished ATP synthesis.The expression of the genes associated with substance metabolism and energy generation was significantly impeded.This study provides significant implica-tions for the interactions of biocides and antibiotics on Gram-negative pathogens,while also addressing antibiotic resistance and developing the external treatment strategy for Pseudomonas-infected wounds and burns. 展开更多

Aqueous Zn-iodine batteries(ZIBs)face the formidable challenges towards practical implementation,including metal corrosion and rampant dendrite growth on the Zn anode side,and shuttle effect of polyiodide species from the cathode side.These challenges lead to poor cycle stability and severe self-discharge.From the fabrication and cost point of view,it is technologically more viable to deploy electrolyte engineering than electrode protection strategies.More importantly,a synchronous method for modulation of both cathode and anode is pivotal,which has been often neglected in prior studies.In this work,cationic poly(allylamine hydrochloride)(Pah^(+))is adopted as a low-cost dual-function electrolyte additive for ZIBs.We elaborate the synchronous effect by Pah^(+)in stabilizing Zn anode and immobilizing polyiodide anions.The fabricated Zn-iodine coin cell with Pah^(+)(ZnI_(2) loading:25 mg cm^(−2))stably cycles 1000 times at 1 C,and a single-layered 3.4 cm^(2) pouch cell(N/P ratio~1.5)with the same mass loading cycles over 300 times with insignificant capacity decay. 展开更多

Peroxymonosulfate(PMS)-assisted visible-light photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants using graphitic carbon nitride(g-C_(3)N_(4))presents a promising and environmentally friendly approach.However,pristine g-C_(3)N_(4) suffers from limited visible-light absorption and low charge-carrier mobility.In this study,a phosphorus-doped tubular carbon nitride(5P-TCN)was synthesized via a precursor self-assembly method using phosphoric acid and melamine as raw materials,eliminating the need for organic solvents or templates.The 5P-TCN catalyst demonstrated enhanced visible-light absorption,improved charge transfer capability,and a 5.25-fold increase in specific surface area(31.092 m^(2)/g),which provided abundant active sites to efficiently drive the PMS-assisted photocatalytic reaction.The 5P-TCN/vis/PMS system exhibited exceptional degradation performance for organic pollutants across a broad pH range(3–9),achieving over 92%degradation of Rhodamine B(RhB)within 15 min.Notably,the system retained>98%RhB degradation efficiency after three consecutive operational cycles,demonstrating robust operational stability and reusability.Moreover,key parameters influencing,active radi-cals,degradation pathways,and potential mechanisms for RhB degradation were systematically investigated.This work proposes a green and cost-effective strategy for developing high-efficiency photocatalysts,while demon-strating the exceptional capability of a PMS-assisted photocatalytic system for rapid degradation of RhB. 展开更多

Beam-tracking simulations have been extensively utilized in the study of collective beam instabilities in circular accelerators.Traditionally,many simulation codes have relied on central processing unit(CPU)-based methods,tracking on a single CPU core,or parallelizing the computation across multiple cores via the message passing interface(MPI).Although these approaches work well for single-bunch tracking,scaling them to multiple bunches significantly increases the computational load,which often necessitates the use of a dedicated multi-CPU cluster.To address this challenge,alternative methods leveraging General-Purpose computing on Graphics Processing Units(GPGPU)have been proposed,enabling tracking studies on a standalone desktop personal computer(PC).However,frequent CPU-GPU interactions,including data transfers and synchronization operations during tracking,can introduce communication overheads,potentially reducing the overall effectiveness of GPU-based computations.In this study,we propose a novel approach that eliminates this overhead by performing the entire tracking simulation process exclusively on the GPU,thereby enabling the simultaneous processing of all bunches and their macro-particles.Specifically,we introduce MBTRACK2-CUDA,a Compute Unified Device Architecture(CUDA)ported version of MBTRACK2,which facilitates efficient tracking of single-and multi-bunch collective effects by leveraging the full GPU-resident computation. 展开更多

Wide-temperature applications of sodium-ion batteries(SIBs)are severely limited by the sluggish ion insertion/diffusion kinetics of conversion-type anodes.Quantum-sized transition metal dichalcogenides possess unique advantages of charge delocalization and enrich uncoordinated electrons and short-range transfer kinetics,which are crucial to achieve rapid low-temperature charge transfer and high-temperature interface stability.Herein,a quantum-scale FeS_(2) loaded on three-dimensional Ti_(3)C_(2) MXene skeletons(FeS_(2) QD/MXene)fabricated as SIBs anode,demonstrating impressive performance under wide-temperature conditions(−35 to 65).The theoretical calculations combined with experimental characterization interprets that the unsaturated coordination edges of FeS_(2) QD can induce delocalized electronic regions,which reduces electrostatic potential and significantly facilitates efficient Na+diffusion across a broad temperature range.Moreover,the Ti_(3)C_(2) skeleton reinforces structural integrity via Fe-O-Ti bonding,while enabling excellent dispersion of FeS_(2) QD.As expected,FeS_(2) QD/MXene anode harvests capacities of 255.2 and 424.9 mAh g^(−1) at 0.1 A g^(−1) under−35 and 65,and the energy density of FeS_(2) QD/MXene//NVP full cell can reach to 162.4 Wh kg^(−1) at−35,highlighting its practical potential for wide-temperatures conditions.This work extends the uncoordinated regions induced by quantum-size effects for exceptional Na^(+)ion storage and diffusion performance at wide-temperatures environment. 展开更多

Human action recognition(HAR)is crucial for the development of efficient computer vision,where bioinspired neuromorphic perception visual systems have emerged as a vital solution to address transmission bottlenecks across sensor-processor interfaces.However,the absence of interactions among versatile biomimicking functionalities within a single device,which was developed for specific vision tasks,restricts the computational capacity,practicality,and scalability of in-sensor vision computing.Here,we propose a bioinspired vision sensor composed of a Ga N/Al N-based ultrathin quantum-disks-in-nanowires(QD-NWs)array to mimic not only Parvo cells for high-contrast vision and Magno cells for dynamic vision in the human retina but also the synergistic activity between the two cells for in-sensor vision computing.By simply tuning the applied bias voltage on each QD-NW-array-based pixel,we achieve two biosimilar photoresponse characteristics with slow and fast reactions to light stimuli that enhance the in-sensor image quality and HAR efficiency,respectively.Strikingly,the interplay and synergistic interaction of the two photoresponse modes within a single device markedly increased the HAR recognition accuracy from 51.4%to 81.4%owing to the integrated artificial vision system.The demonstration of an intelligent vision sensor offers a promising device platform for the development of highly efficient HAR systems and future smart optoelectronics. 展开更多

The magnetic properties and Kondo effect in Ce3TiBi5 with a quasi-one-dimensional structure were investigated using in situ high-pressure resistivity measurements up to 48 GPa.At ambient pressure,Ce_(3)TiBi_(5) undergoes an antiferromagnetic(AFM)transition at T_(N)∼5 K.Under high pressures within 8.9 GPa,we find that Kondo scattering contributes differently to the high-temperature resistance,R(T),depending on the applied current direction,demonstrating a significantly anisotropic Kondo effect.The complete P–T phase diagram has been constructed,in which the pressure dependence of T_(N) exhibits a dome-like shape.The AFM order remains robust under pressure,even when the coherence temperature T^(*) far exceeds 300 K.We attribute the observed anisotropic Kondo effect and the robust AFM to the underlying anisotropy in electronic hybridization under high pressure. 展开更多
