Increasing size of wind turbine and deep water deployment have raised the issue of appropriate selection of the most suitable support structure to make offshore wind energy cost competitive. The paper presents an optimization methodology for decision making process of bottom mounted supports of offshore wind turbines (OWTs) through reasonable engineering attributes derivation.Mathematic models of support structures are reduced by the generalized single-degree-of-freedom theory with relatively fewer structural parameters.Soft-stiff design optimization based on dynamic properties of OWTs is performed for monopile and lattice supports with different wind turbines, water depth and hub height.Attributes of support structures, wind turbines and environment conditions are applied in the multi-criteria decision making method——TOPSIS for benchmarking of those options. The results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed optimazation methodology combined with economical and environmental attributes together. 展开更多

Fissured rocks are prevalent in geotechnical engineering and can significantlyimpact the stability of engineering structures.Microbial-induced carbonate precipitation(MICP)technology provides an ecofriendly solution for repairing fissuredrocks. To optimize repair effectiveness, this study firstinvestigated the effects of environmental factors on bacterial growth, urease activity, and calcium carbonate yield. The optimal MICP scheme was determined to be a pH of 9,a temperature of 25℃,and a cementation solution concentration of 0.5 mol/L.Subsequently,the sandstone specimens with various fissureapertures were repaired using MICP with different bacterial concentrations.Dynamic tests were carried out on the repaired specimens using a split Hopkinson pressure bar system. The experimental results indicate that the dynamic strength of the MICP-repaired specimens positively correlates with strain rate, but decreases with increasing bacterial concentration and fissureaperture. These factors have little effect on the progressive failure behavior.Surface cracks were mainly compression-shear cracks in the repair area and tensile-shear cracks at the end of the specimen. Moreover, the crystal morphology observed by scanning electron microscope indicates that MICP primarily produces vaterite crystals, and lower bacterial concentrations favor the formation of more stable calcite crystals, thereby enhancing the cementitious properties.Furthermore,X-ray computed tomography demonstrates an uneven distribution of calcium carbonate within fissures, with higher fillingrates observed at the injection end and at the bottom of the fissures.Lower bacterial concentrations and smaller fissureapertures are conducive to more uniform distribution and increased fillingrate of calcium carbonate, with fissureaperture exerting a more dominant influence. 展开更多

Polypropylene fibers(PPFs) have been widely used in composite materials due to their sound crack resistance and toughness. In cement-based composites, the incorporation of PPFs can significantly improve their dynamic mechanical properties. However, cement-iron ore tailings foam composite(CIFC), a sustainable material utilizing iron ore tailings to partially replace cement, has not been investigated under dynamic loading. This study investigates the dynamic compressive behavior of CIFC with 1%–2.5% PPF content and 3–12 mm PPF lengths under various strain rates. The microstructural characteristics were analyzed prior to dynamic testing. X-ray diffraction(XRD) identified crystalline phases including CaCO_(3)Fe_(2)O_(3), SiO, C-S-H gel, and ettringite. Scanning electron microscopy(SEM) observations demonstrated that appropriate PPF_(2) parameters(e.g., C2L9, a CIFC specimen containing 2% PPF with 9 mm length) enhance fiber-matrix bonding and minimize interconnected pores and microcracks, revealing pronounced fiber bridging effects. Split Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB) tests were then conducted at strain rates of 120–250 s^(-1), showing that the dynamic properties of CIFC were highly dependent on both strain rates and PPF parameters. Compared to other specimens, C2L9 exhibited a more intact failure pattern with superior compressive strength and energy dissipation capacity, despite showing reduced dynamic increase factor(DIF) and normalized energy dissipation(NED) values. These findings provide practical guidance for applying CIFC with varying PPF parameters in impact-resistant structural designs. 展开更多

Ferroelectric single crystals, such as PZN-PT,provide novel prospects in piezoelectric bending devices such as actuators, sensors or energy harvesters because of their extraordinarily large piezoelectric coefficients. However, large errors may occur in some analyses on electromechanical behaviors using the conventional models. We find the bending rigidity of piezoelectric composited bender is affected not only by thickness, width and the modulus of elasticity of the different layers but also electromechanical coupling coefficients(EMCCs)of the piezoelectric material and the larger EMCCs mean more marked effect. This paper focuses on the derivation of the applied input excitation and output response characteristics in the circular frequency domain for piezoelectric cantilever triple-layer benders(PCTBs),taking into account the secondary piezoelectric effect.Analytic dynamic descriptions of such actuators and transducers are obtained.Based on the presented models dynamic features of PCTB composed of PZN-8%PT are calculated, and numerical results coincide with simulations using the finite element method(FEM). 展开更多

The mechanical properties of secondary cells are crucial to the safety and reliability of battery packs, which can fail due to extrusion and vibration in a vehicle crash. To analyze the structural response of the secondary cell and its other dynamic behaviors, the experiment and some numerical simulations were carried out based on single reference impact testing. Then,an equivalent constitutive relationship of the secondary cell was proposed to reveal the dynamic properties and used to guide the safety estimation of the battery pack.As the input parameter to the finite element model, the equivalent constitutive relationship, including but not limited to the elastic modulus and stain-stress curve, determines the simulation precision of the battery packs.Compared to the experimental results of the natural frequency of the battery pack, the simulation error is below 2%when the elastic modulus of the secondary cell in the battery pack has been verified. 展开更多

This paper studies the possible dynamical property of the Tsallis distribution from a Fokker--Planck equation. For the Langevin dynamical system with an {arbitrary} potential function, Markovian friction and Gaussian white noise, it shows that the current form of Tsallis distribution cannot describe any nonequilibrium dynamics of the system, and it only stands for a simple isothermal situation of the system governed by a potential field. So the form of Tsallis distribution and many existing applications using the Tsallis distribution need to be reconsidered. 展开更多

The existing acoustic logging methods for evaluating the hydraulic fracturing effectiveness usually use the fracture density to evaluate the fracture volume, and the results often cannot accurately reflect the actual productivity. This paper studies the dynamic fluid flow through hydraulic fractures and its effect on borehole acoustic waves. Firstly, based on the fractal characteristics of fractures observed in hydraulic fracturing experiments, a permeability model of complex fracture network is established. Combining the dynamic fluid flow response of the model with the Biot-Rosenbaum theory that describes the acoustic wave propagation in permeable formations, the influence of hydraulic fractures on the velocity dispersion of borehole Stoneley-wave is then calculated and analyzed, whereby a novel hydraulic fracture fluid transport property evaluation method is proposed. The results show that the Stoneley-wave velocity dispersion characteristics caused by complex fractures can be equivalent to those of the plane fracture model, provided that the average permeability of the complex fracture model is equal to the permeability of the plane fracture. In addition, for fractures under high-permeability(fracture width 10~100 μm, permeability ~100 μm^(2)) and reduced permeability(1~10 μm, ~10 μm^(2), as in fracture closure) conditions, the Stoneley-wave velocity dispersion characteristics are significantly different. The field application shows that this fluid transport property evaluation method is practical to assess the permeability and the connectivity of hydraulic fractures. 展开更多

Terminal ballistic tests using 7.62 mm armor-piercing incendiary (API) projectiles were performed to evaluate the resistance to penetration of Ti-5Al-5Mo-5V-3Cr-IZr (Ti-55531) alloy. The dynamic properties were determined by a split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) test system. Ti-55531 plates were subjected to two kinds of heat treatments, leading to the formation of high-strength and high-toughness plates. The results of SHPB test exhibit that the maximum impact absorbed energy of the high-strength plate at a strain rate of 2200 s^-1 is 270 MJ/m^3; however, the maximum value for the high-toughness plate at a strain rate of 4900 s^-1 is 710 MJ/m^3. The ballistic limit velocities for the high-strength and high-toughness plates with dimensions of 300 mm×300 mm×8 mm are 330 and 390 m/s, respectively. Excellent dynamic properties of Ti-55531 alloy correspond to good resistance to penetration. The microstructure evolution related to various impact velocities are observed to investigate the failure mechanism. 展开更多

Red clay, widely used as a subgrade material in southern China, requires a reliable evaluation of its dynamic behavior to ensure infrastructure safety.Long-term cyclic triaxial tests were conducted on red clay from typical, complex subway subgrades to investigate its dynamic properties and shakedown behavior under intermittent cyclic loading. Results show that intermittent cyclic loading, especially with multiple amplitudes, causes greater axial plastic strain and lower post-cyclic strength than continuous loading. These effects diminish with increasing confining pressure.Notably, axial strain partially recovers during loading intervals, with recovery ratios depending on the number and sequence of pauses.Based on the rules of cumulative plastic strain rates and cumulative plastic strain increments, shakedown behavior for red clay under intermittent cyclic loading is divided into three categories:plastic shakedown, critical shakedown, and plastic creep.A quantitative shakedown limit criterion is proposed using the Boltzmann function.Shakedown behavior significantly influences the post-cyclic strengths, and the influence diminishes as confining pressure increases.Samples exhibiting plastic creep and plastic shakedown behavior have the lowest and highest strengths, and those with critical shakedown behaviors have medium strengths.Cyclic loading with relatively low-stress amplitude causes a hardening effect, while cyclic loading intermittence or cyclic loading with relatively high-stress amplitude causes a degradation effect, and both effects are mitigated by higher confining pressures. 展开更多

This paper proposed the split short Hopkinson pressure bar(SSHPB)with short incident and transmission bars to investigate the dynamic compression characteristics of sandstone under different strain rates. The SSHPB was constructed to carry out impact tests to obtain superimposed stress waves in short bars. The separated stress waves(incident, reflected and transmitted waves)were determined by the proposed wave separation method and further used to determine the stress-strain relationship of sandstone. The SSHPB was validated by comparing the dynamic properties of sandstone determined by the SSHPB with those determined by the traditional split Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB).The effect of the strain rate on the accuracy of the SSHPB was discussed. The results show that the stress-strain relationship of sandstone determined by the SSHPB agrees well with that determined by the traditional SHPB.The variation in the dynamic properties of sandstone with strain rate determined by the SSHPB is similar to that determined by the traditional SHPB.Under different strain rates, the relative error between the dynamic properties of sandstone determined by the SSHPB and traditional SHPB is less than 5%.Compared with the traditional SHPB,the SSHPB can reduce the length of the incident and transmission bars by 50%,which is an alternative to the traditional SHPB. 展开更多

Liquid-liquid phase separation(LLPS)of proteins and nucleic acids is a common phenomenon in cells that underlies the formation of membraneless organelles.Although the macroscopic behavior of biomolecular coacervates has been elucidated by microscopy, the detailed dynamic properties of proteins/peptides during the LLPS process remain poorly characterized.Here,site-directed spin labeling-electron paramagnetic resonance(SDSL-EPR)spectroscopy was employed to characterize the dynamic properties of a minimal model LLPS system consisting of positively charged peptides and RNA.The degree of phase separation, indicated by broadening of the EPR spectrum of the spin-labeled peptide due to slow molecular tumbling, was monitored by EPR.In addition, three distinct populations with varying molecular motion during LLPS,featuring different spectral lineshapes, were identified. These populations included a fast motion component(Ⅰ),a slower motion component(Ⅱ)associated with peptides in the dispersed phase and an immobile component(Ⅲ)observed in the dense phase. With gradual titration of the peptides to RNA,the EPR spectrum gradually shifted, refiecting changes in the populations of the components.Together,SDSL-EPR method not only provides new insights into the dynamic behavior of biomolecules during LLPS,but also offers a sensitive method for biomolecular phase separation processes at the molecular level. 展开更多

Experimental studies were conducted on two high-strength steel plate-frame structures with different truss spacings under various impact velocities to investigate the dynamic mechanical properties of hull plate-frame structures under drop weight impact. The results showed that decreasing the main beam spacing can effectively increase the structural stiffness, reduce the maximum deformation, and increase the damage range.Furthermore,to simulate the impact tests accurately, static and dynamic tensile tests at different strain rates were carried out,and the Cowper-Symonds model parameters were fitted via experimental data. The material properties obtained from the tensile tests were used as inputs for numerical simulations with the numerical results coincide with the experimental results.A systematic analysis and discussion were conducted on the effects of truss spacing and truss width on the dynamic response of the reinforced plates, and an optimal range for the ratio of truss spacing to truss width was proposed. In addition,a mesh size sensitivity analysis for ship hull plate frame collision simulations was performed. The applicability of the EPS,MMC,and RTCL failure criteria in the simulation of plate-frame structures was investigated via finite element simulations of falling weight impact tests. The research findings provide a reference for ship hull structure design and resilience assessment. 展开更多

Traffic flow prediction is a crucial element of intelligent transportation systems.However,accu-rate traffic flow prediction is quite challenging because of its highly nonlinear, complex, and dynam-ic characteristics. To address the difficulties in simultaneously capturing local and global dynamic spatiotemporal correlations in traffic flow,as well as the high time complexity of existing models,a multi-head flow attention-based local-global dynamic hypergraph convolution(MFA-LGDHC)pre-diction model is proposed.which consists of multi-head flow attention(MHFA)mechanism, graph convolution network(GCN),and local-global dynamic hypergraph convolution(LGHC).MHFA is utilized to extract the time dependency of traffic flow and reduce the time complexity of the model.GCN is employed to catch the spatial dependency of traffic flow.LGHC utilizes down-sampling con-volution and isometric convolution to capture the local and global spatial dependencies of traffic flow. And dynamic hypergraph convolution is used to model the dynamic higher-order relationships of the traffic road network.Experimental results indicate that the MFA-LGDHC model outperforms current popular baseline models and exhibits good prediction performance. 展开更多

Controllable shock wave fracturing is an innovative engineering technique used for shale reservoir fracturing and reformation.Understanding the anisotropic fracture mechanism of shale under impact loading is vital for optimizing shock wave fracturing equipment and enhancing shale oil production. In this study, using the well-known notched semi-circular bend(NSCB)sample and the novel double-edge notched flattened Brazilian disc(DNFBD)sample combined with a split Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB),various dynamic anisotropic fracture properties of Lushan shale, including failure characteristics, fracture toughness, energy dissipation and crack propagation velocity, are comprehensively compared and discussed under mode Ⅰ and mode Ⅱ fracture scenarios.First, using a newly modified fracture criterion considering the strength anisotropy of shale, the DNFBD specimen is predicted to be a robust method for true mode Ⅱ fracture of anisotropic shale rocks. Our experimental results show that the dynamic mode Ⅱ fracture of shale induces a rougher and more complex fracture morphology and performs a higher fracture toughness or fracture energy compared to dynamic mode Ⅰ fracture. The minimal fracture toughness or fracture energy occurs in the Short-transverse orientation, while the maximal ones occur in the Divider orientation. In addition,it is interesting to find that the mode Ⅱ fracture toughness anisotropy index decreases more slowly than that in the mode Ⅰ fracture scenario. These results provide significant insights for understanding the different dynamic fracture mechanisms of anisotropic shale rocks under impact loading and have some beneficial implications for the controllable shock wave fracturing technique. 展开更多

Flexible microporous metal rubber(FMP-MR)is widely used in national defense applications, yet its mechanical behavior under high-speed impact conditions remains insufficiently explored. In this study, dynamic and static experiments were conducted to systematically investigate the mechanical response of metal-wrapped microporous materials under impact loading that spanned 10~6 orders of magnitude.By combining a high-precision numerical model with a spatial contact point search algorithm, the spatio–temporal contact characteristics of the complex network structure in FMP-MR were systematically analyzed.Furthermore, the mapping mechanism from turn topology and mesoscopic friction behavior to macroscopic mechanical properties was comprehensively explored. The results showed that compared with quasi-static loading,FMP-MR under high-speed impact exhibited higher energy absorption efficiency due to high-strain-rate inertia effect. Therefore, the peak stress increased by 141%,and the maximum energy dissipation increased by 300%.Consequently,the theory of dynamic friction locking effect was innovatively proposed. The theory explains that the close synergistic effect of sliding friction and plastic dissipation promoted by the stable interturn-locked embedded structure is the essential reason for the excellent dynamic mechanical properties of FMP-MR under dynamic loading conditions.Briefly, based on the in-depth investigation of the mechanical response and energy dissipation mechanism of FMP-MR under impact loads, this study provides a solid theoretical basis for further expanding the application range of FMP-MR and optimizing its performance. 展开更多

For understanding the rock microscopic damage and dynamic mechanical properties subjected to recurrent freeze-thaw cycles, experiments for five groups of homogeneous sandstone under different freeze-thaw cycles were conducted. After freezethaw, nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) tests and impact loading tests were carried out, from which microscopic damage characteristics of sandstone and dynamic mechanical parameters were obtained. The results indicate that the porosity increases with the increase of cycle number, the rate of porosity growth descends at the beginning of freeze-thaw, yet accelerates after a certain number of cycles. The proportion of pores with different sizes changes dynamically and the multi-scale distribution of pores tends to develop on pore structure with the continuing impact of freeze-thaw and thawing. Dynamic compressive stress-strain curve of sandstone undergoing freeze-thaw can be divided into four phases, and the phase of compaction is inconspicuous compared with the static curve. Elastic modulus and dynamic peak intensity of sandstone gradually decrease with freeze-thaw cycles, while peak strain increases. The higher the porosity is, the more serious the degradation of dynamic intensity is. The porosity is of a polynomial relationship with the dynamic peak intensity. 展开更多
