Superconductivity and band topology of double-layer honeycomb structure M_(2)N_(2)(M=Nb,Ta)

Two-dimensional double-layer honeycomb(DLHC)materials are known for their diverse physical properties,but superconductivity has been a notably absent characteristic in this structure.We address this gap by investigating M_(2)N_(2)(M=Nb,Ta)with DLHC structure using first-principles calculations.Our results show that M_(2)N_(2)are stable and metallic,exhibiting superconducting behavior.Specifically,Nb_(2)N_(2)and Ta_(2)N_(2)display superconducting transition temperatures of 6.8 K and 8.8 K,respectively.Their electron-phonon coupling is predominantly driven by the coupling between metal d-orbitals and low-frequency metal-dominated vibration modes.Interestingly,two compounds also exhibit non-trivial band topology.Thus,M_(2)N_(2)are promising platforms for studying the interplay between topology and superconductivity and fill the gap in superconductivity research for DLHC materials. 展开更多

A Composite Structure of Al–Mg–Sc Alloy Prepared by Wire Arc‑Directed Energy Deposition with Interlayer Friction Stir Processing

Interlayer friction stir processing(FSP)has been proved to be an efective method of enhancing the mechanical properties of wire arc-directed energy deposited(WA-DED)samples.However,the original deposition structure was still retained in the FSP-WA-DED component besides the processed zone(PZ),thus forming a composite structure.Considering the material utilization and practical service process of the deposited component,more attention should be paid on this special composite structure,but the relevant investigation has not been carried out.In this study,an Al–Mg–Sc alloy was prepared by WA-DED with interlayer FSP treatment,and the composite structure was frstly investigated.Almost all of the pores were eliminated under the pressure efect from the tool shoulder.The grains were further refned with an average size of about 1.2μm in the PZ.Though no severe plastic deformation was involved in the retained WA-DED deposition zone,comparable tensile properties with the PZ sample were obtained in the composite structure.Low ultimate tensile strength(UTS)of 289 MPa and elongation of 3.2%were achieved in the WA-DED sample.After interlayer FSP treatment,the UTS and elongation of the PZ samples were signifcantly increased to 443 MPa and 16.3%,while those in the composite structure remained at relatively high levels of 410 MPa and 13.5%,respectively.Meanwhile,a high fatigue strength of 180 and 130 MPa was obtained in the PZ and composite structure samples,which was clearly higher than that of the WA-DED sample(100 MPa).It is concluded that the defects in traditional WA-DED process can be eliminated in the composite structure after interlayer FSP treatment,resulting in enhanced tensile and fatigue properties,which provides an efective method of improving the mechanical properties of the WA-DED sample. 展开更多

Based on the three-pattern decomposition of global atmospheric circulation(TPDGAC), this study investigates the double-layer structure of the Hadley circulation(HC) and its interdecadal evolution characteristics by using monthly horizontal wind field from NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data from 1948—2011. The following major conclusions are drawn: First, the double-layer structure of the HC is an objective fact, and it constantly exists in April,May, June, October and November in the Southern Hemisphere. Second, the double-layer structure is more obvious in the Southern than in the Northern Hemisphere. Since the double-layer structure is sloped in the vertical direction, it should be taken into consideration when analyzing the variations of the strength and location of the center of the HC.Third, the strength of the double-layer structure of the HC in the Southern Hemisphere consistently exhibits decadal variations with a strong, weak and strong pattern in all five months(April, May, June, October, and November), with cycles of 20-30 a and 40-60 a. Fourth, the center of the HC(mean position of the double-layer structure) in the Southern Hemisphere consistently and remarkably shifts southward in all the five months. The net poleward shifts over the 64 years are 5.18°, 2.11°, 2.50°, 1.79° and 5.76° for the five respective months, with a mean shift of 3.47°. 展开更多

However, fewer studies were conducted on this structure, which made engineers too confused to fully recognize its feasibility of this structure. Hence, based on the previous experimental research on the Taohutu mine construction project in  Ordos in Inner Mongolia, this research paper aims to provide a widely deep numerical analysis by the usage of the finite element software, in fact, to establish the corresponding numerical analysis model and make a comparison with the experimental data to get the rationality of the verified model. The influence of the composite characteristics of the steel plate and concrete on the ultimate bearing capacity and stress field of the shaft wall structure is studied here through the method of multi-factor analysis. Also, the optimal design scheme of the double-layer steel plate and concrete composite shaft wall structure is proposed in this research paper. 展开更多

Both schemes utilize a nonlinear observer/filter structure to compensate for uncertainties in corresponding friction parameters associated with the turntable system. Moreover, in the second scheme, adjustable gains are introduced into the dual nonlin- ear filters and they can be tuned to improve the position tracking performance. In both cases, a Lyapunov-like argument is provided for the global asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed schemes. 展开更多

Based on energy dissipation and structural control principle, a new structural configuration, called the megasub controlled structure (MSCS) with friction damped braces (FDBs), is first presented. Meanwhile, to calculate the damping coefficient in the slipping state a new analytical method is proposed. The damping characteristics of one-storey friction damped braced frame (FDBF) are investigated, and the influence of the structural parameters on the energy dissipation and the practical engineering design are discussed. The nonlinear dynamic equations and the analytical model of the MSCS with FDBs are established. Three building structures with different structural configurations, which were designed with reference to the conventional mega-sub structures such as used in Tokyo City Hall, are comparatively investigated. The results illustrate that the structure presented in the paper has excellent dynamic properties and satisfactory control effectiveness. 展开更多

By employing a quasi in situ method, we investigated the dynamic evolution of the grain structure con-sidering the material flow, strain, and strain rate in the friction stir welding of pure copper. The tool' stop action' and rapid cooling were employed and a brass foil was used as a marker to show the material flow path. The grain structure along the material flow path was characterised using electron backscatter diffraction. Static recrystallization occurs for the work-hardened base material in the preheating stage in front of the tool In the acceleration flow stage, grains are significantly refined by plastic deforma-tion, discontinuous dynamic recrystallization, annealing twinning during the strain-induced boundary migration and slight continuous dynamic recrystallization. In the deceleration flow stage, due to a strain reversal, the grain first coarsens, and is thereafter refined again. Finally, the hot-deformed material in the shoulder-affected zone is ‘frozen’ directly whereas that in the probe-affected zone undergoes signif-icant annealing;thus, the recrystallized microstructure and 45°-rotated cube texture are obtained in the probe-affected zone. 展开更多

In this paper, through the special test of three-type corner friction and squeez- ing of real rock specimens, and physical simulation test on the roof key blocks of roof structure as well as the finite element calcula- tion of the corner stress distribution and failure mechanism, the characteristics of friction and squeezing of the roof key blocks comer are revealed. It is found that the friction angle of the roof key blocks corner is the residual friction angle, and the frictional angle of the roof key blocks is 22-32° (average 27°), so the friction coefficient is determined as 0.5. It also found the squeezing strength is less than the uniaxial strength, and the squeezing coefficient of the roof blocks corner is determined as 0.4. Based on the results, the ground control theory can be updated from qualitative analysis to quantitative analysis. 展开更多

Dissimilar friction stir welding(FSW) between aluminum and magnesium alloy was performed, using various tool rotational speed(TRS) at a ?xed travel speed, with tool offset to aluminum to investigate the formation of intermetallic compounds(IMCs) in the banded structure(BS) zone and their effect on mechanical properties. Large quantities of IMCs, in the form of alternating bands of particles or lamellae, were found in the BS zone, where drastic material intermixing occurred during FSW. The BS microstructural characters in terms of the morphology of the bands and the quantity and distribution of IMC particles varied with TRS. All welds exhibited brittle fracture mode with their fracture paths propagating mainly in/along the IMCs in the BS. It is shown that these BS microstructural characters have significant effect on the mechanical properties of the joints. Suggestions on tailoring the BS microstructure were proposed for improving the strength of the BS zone and the final mechanical properties of the Al/Mg FSW joints. 展开更多

AA6005 A-T6 aluminum hollow extrusions were friction stir welded at a fixed high welding speed of 2000 mm/min and various rotation speeds.The results showed that the heat-aff ected zone(HAZ)retained the similar grain structure as the base material except some grain coarsening,and the density of dislocations andβ′precipitates were almost unchanged,indicating that the high welding speed inhibited the coarsening and dissolution ofβ″precipitates via fast cooling rate.The thermo-mechanically aff ected zone(TMAZ)was characterized by elongated and rotated grains,in which a low density ofβ′precipitates and the highest density of dislocations were observed.The highest heat input and severest plastic deformation occurring in the nugget zone(NZ)resulted in the occurrence of dynamic recrystallization and a high density of dislocations.Hence,all theβ″precipitates and most of theβ′precipitates dissolved into the matrix,and a fewβ′precipitates were transformed intoβprecipitates.The microhardness was controlled by the precipitation and solution strengthening in the HAZ,by the dislocation and precipitation strengthening in the TMAZ,and by the fine-grain and dislocation strengthening in the NZ.With the increase in rotation speed,the peak and the lowest microhardness value increased monotonously. 展开更多

Some new characteristics of the self-excited vibration in this kind of system are found. The conditions under which self-excited vibration occurs at low-order or high-order modes are discussed. Effects of changes in parameters of the system on the self-excited vibration are analyzed. The vibration mechanism of the water droplets spurting phenomenon of the Chinese cultural relic dragon washbasin is further explained. This investigation presents a new idea for modeling the self-excited vibration caused by dry friction interaction between two elastic structures. 展开更多

This paper reports internal structures of a wide fault zone at Shenxigou,Dujiangyan,Sichuan province,China,and high-velocity frictional properties of the fault gouge collected near the coseismic slip zone during the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake.Vertical offset and horizontal displacement at the trench site were 2.8 m(NW side up)and 4.8 m(right-lateral),respectively.The fault zone formed in Triassic sandstone,siltstone,and shale about 500 m away from the Yingxiu-Beichuan fault,a major fault in the Longmenshan fault system.A trench survey across the coseismic fault,and observations of outcrops and drill cores down to a depth of 57 m revealed that the fault zone consists of fault gouge and fault breccia of about0.5 and 250-300 m in widths,respectively,and that the fault strikes N62°E and dips 68° to NW.Quaternary conglomerates were recovered beneath the fault in the drilling,so that the fault moved at least 55 m along the coseismic slip zone,experiencing about 18 events of similar sizes.The fault core is composed of grayish gouge(GG) and blackish gouge(BG) with very complex slip-zone structures.BG contains low-crystalline graphite of about 30 %.High-velocity friction experiments were conducted at normal stresses of 0.6-2.1 MPa and slip rates of 0.1-2.1 m/s.Both GG and BG exhibit dramatic slip weakening at constant high slip rates that can be described as an exponential decay from peak friction coefficient lpto steadystate friction coefficient lssover a slip-weakening distance Dc.Deformation of GG and BG is characterized by overlapped slip-zone structures and development of sharp slickenside surfaces,respectively.Comparison of our data with those reported for other outcrops indicates that the high-velocity frictional properties of the Longmenshan fault zones are quite uniform and the high-velocity weakening must have promoted dynamic rupture propagation during the Wenchuan earthquake. 展开更多

This paper presents the results from unidirectional shaking table tests of two reduced scale steel models of a building frame, with one and two floors, respectively. These frames incorporate friction dissipators at every floor. The inputs are sine-dwells and artificial and registered earthquakes. This study is part of a larger research project aiming to assess the seismic efficiency of friction dissipators by means of an integrated numerical and experimental approach. Inside this framework, the main objectives of these experiments are to: (i) collect a wide range of results to calibrate a numerical model derived within the project, (ii) clarify some of the most controversial issues about friction dissipators (including behavior for inputs containing pulses, capacity to reduce resonance peaks, introduction of high frequencies in the response, and self- generated eccentricities), (iii) better understand their dynamic behavior, (iv) provide insight on the feasibility and reliability of using simple friction dissipators for seismic protection of building structures and (v) characterize the hysteretic behavior of these devices. Most of these objectives are satisfactorily reached and relevant conclusions are stated. 展开更多

TiC/Ti_(2)AlC core-shell structure reinforced Ti-based composite coating was prepared by laser cladding technology.The effect of Ti_(2)AlC content on the microstructure and mechanical behavior of the coating was studied.The results showed that the reinforced phase was mainly TiC/Ti_(2)AlC MAX phase core-shell structure at 20%Ti_(2)AlC content.According to the synthesis mechanism,Ti_(2)AlC nucleated on TiC through the diffusion of Al atoms to further generate the core-shell structure.The friction and wear test results showed that the wear resistance of the coating was significantly improved under the load distribution effect of the core-shell structure.The friction coefficient decreased to 0.342,and the wear rate reached 8.19×10^(−5)mm^(3)/(N·m),which was only 47.07%of TC4 substrate. 展开更多

Vanadium oxide(VO_(x))has garnered significant attention in the realm of resistive random-access memory(RRAM)owing to its outstanding resistive switching characteristics.However,the ambiguous mechanisms of resistive switching and inferior stability hinder its practical applications.Herein,an RRAM named VO_(x)/TiO_(2)/n^(++)Si device is prepared.It displays bipolar resistive switching behavior and shows superior cycle endurance(>200),a significantly high on/off ratio(>10^(2))and long-term stability.The tremendous improvement in the stability of the VO_(x)/TiO_(2)/n^(++)Si device compared with the Cu/VOx/n^(++)Si device is due to the p-i-n structure of VO_(x)/TiO_(2)/n^(++)Si.The switching mechanism of the VO_(x)/TiO_(2)/n^(++)Si device is attributed to the growth and annihilation of Cu conductive filaments. 展开更多

A nonlinear dynamic friction control is dealt with using dynamic friction observer and intelligent cantrol. The adaptive dynamic friction obsrver based on the LuGre friction is proposed to estimate the friction parameters and a directly friction state variable The dynamic structured Fuzzy Neural Network (RFNN) is designed to give additional robustness to the cantrol system under the presence of the friction model uncertainty. A proposed composite cantrol scheme is applied to the position tracking control of the servo systen. The performances of the proposed friction observer and the friction controller are demonstrated by simulation. 展开更多

In particular, in order to evaluate the effects of vertical components on seismic response, non-linear dynamic analysis, carried out by using several numerical models, have been performed by considering two near-fault seismic events, L’Aquila 2009 and Emilia Romagna 2012. The obtained results show that increasing vertical seismic motion base shear significantly increases while relative displacements increase very little. 展开更多

Sliding tribologica... A Mg-14.28Gd-2.44Zn-0.54Zr (mass fraction, %) alloy was prepared by conventional ingot metallurgy (I/M). The microstructure differences in as-cast and solution-treated alloys were investigated. Sliding tribological behaviors of the as-cast and solution-treated alloys were investigated under oil lubricant condition by pin-on-disc configuration. The wear loss and friction coefficients were measured at a load of 40 N and sliding speeds of 30-300 mm/s with a sliding distance of 5000 m at room temperature. The results show that the as-cast alloy is mainly composed ofα-Mg solid solution, the lamellar 14H-type long period stacking ordered (LPSO) structure within matrix, andβ-[(Mg,Zn)3Gd] phase. However, most of theβ-phase transforms to X-phase with 14H-type LPSO structure after solution heat treatment at 773 K for 35 h (T4). The solution-treated alloy presents low wear-resistance, because the hard β-phase is converted into thermally-stable, ductile and soft X-Mg12GdZn phase with LPSO structure in the alloy. 展开更多

A theoretical model of a friction pendulum system (FPS) is introduced to examine its application for the seismic isolation of spatial lattice shell structures. An equation of motion of the lattice shell with FPS bearings is developed. Then, seismic isolation studies are performed for both double-layer and single-layer lattice shell structures under different seismic input and design parameters of the FPS. The influence of frictional coefficients and radius of the FPS on seismic performance are discussed. Based on the study, some suggestions for seismic isolation design of lattice shells with FPS bearings are given and conclusions are made which could be helpful in the application of FPS. 展开更多
