BACKGROUND Given their responsibility for the well-being of individuals,nurses with advanced mental health literacy,along with strong holistic nursing competencies and professional self-efficacy,are better equipped to...BACKGROUND Given their responsibility for the well-being of individuals,nurses with advanced mental health literacy,along with strong holistic nursing competencies and professional self-efficacy,are better equipped to assess both the mental and physical health of their patients,leading to the provision of holistic nursing care.AIM To investigate the relationship between nurses’mental health literacy levels and their holistic nursing competencies,as well as their nursing professional selfefficacy.METHODS This study is cross-sectional,correlational research.The study sample consisted of a total of 261 volunteer nurses working in a training and research hospital and a state hospital between March 11,2024 and April 8,2024.Data were collected face to face with the“Descriptive Data Form”,“Mental Health Literacy Scale(MHLS)”,“Holistic Nursing Competence Scale(HNCS)”,and the“Nursing Profession Self-Efficacy Scale(NPSES)”.RESULTS The mean scale scores for the nurses were as follows:MHLS:95.88±11.67;HNCS:179.46±33.82;NPSES:64.79±11.24.A low-level positive correlation was found between the total scores of the MHLS,HNCS,and NPSES,and a moderate-level positive correlation was observed between the total scores of the HNCS and NPSES.These correlations were statistically significant(P<0.05).CONCLUSION It is recommended that initiatives be undertaken to enhance the mental health literacy and holistic nursing competencies of nurses and that similar studies be conducted with nurses in different institutions and with a larger number of nurses.展开更多
Integrating local cultural resources into language teaching is a significant trend in fostering students’core competencies.This study addresses the challenge of effectively implementing China’s educational policy of...Integrating local cultural resources into language teaching is a significant trend in fostering students’core competencies.This study addresses the challenge of effectively implementing China’s educational policy of“Core Competencies for English as a Subject”in middle school classrooms by leveraging the unique revolutionary(“Red”)culture of Tangshan City.The research developed and tested a pedagogical model that utilizes Tangshan’s rich Red Culture heritage-such as the Kailuan Miners’Movement and the Xifengkou Great Wall Resistance relics-as authentic content for English language learning.Employing a mixed-methods approach,including literature review,fieldwork,action research,and case analysis in partner middle schools,the project involved designing thematic teaching resources(e.g.,lesson plans,micro-lectures)and implementing interactive activities like role-playing and project-based learning.Findings indicate that this localized approach significantly enhanced students’engagement,cultural awareness,critical thinking,and language application skills,effectively addressing the four dimensions of English core competencies:language ability,cultural awareness,thinking capacity,and learning ability.The study concludes that the“Local Culture-Integrated Core Competency Model”provides a practical,replicable framework for synergizing values education with language acquisition.It offers valuable insights for educators worldwide seeking to incorporate local history and values into foreign language curricula,promoting deeper contextual learning.展开更多

This study investigates and explores the teaching of higher vocational English courses for non-English majors from the perspective of core competencies.First,it outlines the current research status of core competencie...This study investigates and explores the teaching of higher vocational English courses for non-English majors from the perspective of core competencies.First,it outlines the current research status of core competencies and analyzes the national-level requirements for English core competencies.Subsequently,based on professional training objectives and curriculum standards,a questionnaire on the core competencies of English courses has been designed to understand students’perceptions and experiences regarding the development of their competencies in areas such as workplace communication,cross-cultural exchange,language thinking enhancement,and autonomous learning improvement.The survey results showed that the majority of students had a positive attitude towards the effectiveness of English courses in cultivating the aforementioned core competencies.However,some students also suggest improvements,such as increasing practical opportunities and strengthening cultural exchange.Based on this,the study further explores how to integrate the cultivation of core competencies into classroom teaching,including the use of a combination of formative and summative assessments,the design of teaching content and activities related to the workplace and cross-cultural communication,and the guidance of students to actively explore and apply their knowledge,thereby enhancing their English language application abilities.This study has certain reference value for the optimization of the higher vocational English curriculum system and the reform of teaching methods.展开更多

Recent evidence suggests that ferroptosis plays a crucial role in the occurrence and development of white matter lesions.However,the mechanisms and regulatory pathways involved in ferroptosis within white matter lesio...Recent evidence suggests that ferroptosis plays a crucial role in the occurrence and development of white matter lesions.However,the mechanisms and regulatory pathways involved in ferroptosis within white matter lesions remain unclear.Long non-coding RNAs(lnc RNAs)have been shown to influence the occurrence and development of these lesions.We previously identified lnc_011797 as a biomarker of white matter lesions by high-throughput sequencing.To investigate the mechanism by which lnc_011797 regulates white matter lesions,we established subjected human umbilical vein endothelial cells to oxygenglucose deprivation to simulate conditions associated with white matter lesions.The cells were transfected with lnc_011797 overexpression or knockdown lentiviruses.Our findings indicate that lnc_011797 promoted ferroptosis in these cells,leading to the formation of white matter lesions.Furthermore,lnc_011797 functioned as a competitive endogenous RNA(ce RNA)for mi R-193b-3p,thereby regulating the expression of WNK1 and its downstream ferroptosis-related proteins.To validate the role of lnc_011797 in vivo,we established a mouse model of white matter lesions through bilateral common carotid artery stenosis.The results from this model confirmed that lnc_011797 regulates ferroptosis via WNK1 and promotes the development of white matter lesions.These findings clarify the mechanism by which lnc RNAs regulate white matter lesions,providing a new target for the diagnosis and treatment of white matter lesions.展开更多

Objective:To identify the essential competencies for different grades of midwives in China.Methods:A nationwide modified Delphi process was implemented to amend and screen the indicators.Thirty expert panellists inclu...Objective:To identify the essential competencies for different grades of midwives in China.Methods:A nationwide modified Delphi process was implemented to amend and screen the indicators.Thirty expert panellists including practitioners (nurse-midwives),clinical managers,academic educators and obstetricians completed a two-round Delphi study through an electronic survey that was supplemented by an expert panel meeting for discussion of comments and suggestions.Results:All panellists completed two rounds of Delphi study and at least 75% of them achieved a consensus on 224 items (W1 =0.150,W2 =0.173).Seven domains were established,namely,'Professional quality','Antenatal care','Intrapartum care','Postnatal care','Neonatal care','Gynaecological care','Public health care & Integrative competency'.Generalised maternal and neonatal knowledge and perinatal care skills were set for'junior'midwives,pathological care for'senior'ones and supervisory abilities and promotion of discipline for'expert'ones.Conclusions:This research developed three grades of essential competencies for midwives in China.The next step will be assessment in clinical settings for further response.The set was in line with the concepts of International Confederation of Midwives under the domestic context.This set could be adopted as a reference in developing normalised midwifery practice,education and certification.展开更多
Objective:A collaborative team is necessary to help patients achieve their healthcare goals using complementary medicine.At present,healthcare professionals do not feel sufficiently qualified to provide this service.T...Objective:A collaborative team is necessary to help patients achieve their healthcare goals using complementary medicine.At present,healthcare professionals do not feel sufficiently qualified to provide this service.This study sought to identify competencies and teaching methods for interprofessional training on complementary and integrative medicine at medical schools.Methods:Sixty-five German-speaking experts with various professional backgrounds were invited to take part in a three-round Delphi study.In the first round,predefined competencies were assessed on a seven-point Likert scale,and participants were invited to propose additional competencies that would be evaluated in the subsequent rounds.The competencies were ranked based on the participant assessments and were assigned to four relevance groups.In the second and third rounds,suitable teaching methods were identified using free-text fields and multiple-choice questions.In a final workshop,participants synthesized the outcomes of the previous sessions and derived key competencies that would be a benefit to undergraduate interprofessional training in complementary and integrative medicine at medical schools.Results:The three rounds plus final worksop were attended by 50,40,36 and 11 experts.The competencies that these experts determined to be highly relevant to teaching complementary and integrative medicine emphasized,in particular,the respectful treatment of patients and the importance of taking a medical history.From these highly relevant competencies,three key targets were agreed upon in the final workshop:students are able to 1)classify and assess complementary medical terms and methods;2)work collaboratively and integrate patients into the interprofessional team;3)involve patients and their relatives respectfully and empathetically in all healthcare processes.To achieve these competency goals,the following teaching methods were highlighted:students discuss therapy options based on authentic patient cases with each other and practice empathic patient communication incorporating complementary medicine.Further,the theoretical background of complementary medicines could be provided as online-training,to use the class sessions for hands-on exercises and interprofessional exchange and discussion.Conclusion:Despite the heterogeneous panel of experts,a consensus was reached on the competency orientation and teaching approaches.The results can promote the implementation of interprofessional training for complementary medicine in undergraduate education.展开更多
