Yield of CO is measured by using the characteristic detector of coal oxidation at 30-90 ℃. The impact of parameters, such as airflow and particle size, on activation energies is analyzed. Finally, agreement was obtained between activation energies and the dynamic oxygen absorbed in order to test the accuracy of the model. The results show that: 1) a positive exponential relation between concentration of CO and temperature in the process of the experiment is obtained: increases are almost identical and the initial CO is low; 2) the apparent activation energies increase gradually with the sizes of particle at the same airflow, but the gradients increase at a decreasing rate; 3) the apparent activation energies increase linearly with airflow. For the five coal particles, the differences among the energies are relatively high when the airflow was low, but the differences were low when the airflow was high; 4) the optimum sizes of particle, 0.125-0.25 ram, and the optimum volume of airflow, 100 mL/min, are determined from the model; 5) the apparent activation energies decrease with an increase in oxygen absorbed. A negative exponential relation between the two is obtained,展开更多

The inhibition curves on suppressing coal oxidation of the different type and different concentration of organic antioxidant and inorganic salt were given through experimental study and data processing. Then some conclusions can be gained from the experimental study combining with theoretical analysis. First the inhibition mechanism of the organic antioxidant and inorganic salt is different. The former is that the chemical action is the dominant position. It can be called as the chain termination theory because the free radical is captured during coal oxidation. And the later is that the physical effect is the dominant position. It can be called as the decreasing-temperature theory because the liquid membrane which was formed by the inorganic salt can make coal body be the state of wetness and prevent oxygen from coal surface. Second the inhibition effect of the organic antioxidant is higher than the inorganic salt in the later period. But it is lower in the early period.展开更多

Some oxidation characteristics of Vitamin C affecting the coal oxidation were investigated at different heating rates. The TG-DSC data show that the impact of Vitamin C on coal oxidation process can be directly evaluated using ignition temperature and critical temperature. Comparison with the effect of water on coal oxidation shows that Vitamin C is more efficient than water. However, the blank experiment conducted with inert a-Al2O3 also suggests that Vitamin C can decompose at about 200 ℃, which limits the usage of Vitamin C on inhibiting coal oxidation.展开更多

Gas produced from electro-analysis of coal slurry was collected by drainage-method and l-t curves were recorded to testify the catalysis of each catalyst for coal oxidation. The results show that the three kinds of catalysts can obviously improve the coal oxidation current. Furthermore, K3Fe(CN)6 and sodium hypochlorite played an indirect oxidation role in the electrolysis process. Catalysts bridge the coal par- ticles and the solid electrode surface, thus increase the coal oxidation rates. The changes of catalyst content during the electrolysis were further determined by quantitative titration to discuss the catalytic Mechanism. The dynamic transition of K3Fe(CN)6/K4Fe(CN)6 and ClO^-/Cl^- are proposed by iodometric method.展开更多

Therefore, the influence of oxidant linear velocity and the size of the coal grain was investigated in a fluidised bed. The hydrodynamic parameters of the fluidised bed including: porosity, Sherwood criterion (diffusion Nusselt number), and mass transfer coefficient (external surface) were calculated. Furthermore, the study examined the effects of intensity and efficiency on the desulphurised coal properties; organic matter, ash, and volatile matter contents. The key changes during the conversion of pyritic sulphur and coal organic matter were subsequently examined. The results showed that the sulphur content (St^d 3.16 wt%) of the low-rank coal, was transformed to (St^d 〈 1.5 wt%) after desulfurization. Other enhanced properties were: V^daf ≤ 38.0 wt%; A^d 〈 10.0 wt%, now suitable for pulverised coal injection technology.展开更多

On condition thai an atomic molar ratio of ro : rc in MOOFCC is 1 : 1.06 as well as a molecular molar ratio of rSiO2: rCaO is 1 : 1.28, 1 kg of MOOFCC is heated by microwave to reach 1 000-1 300℃ and hold different time respectively. Experiments show that the metal phase takes the iron-based metal compounds containing manganese as the main content. The manganese content of metal phase increases with the xise of temperature. The particle size of the metal phase is within the range from 0. 01 to 0.05 mm. MO2 phase in the stuff is entirely changed into MnO phase and the slag phase is mainly composed of wollastonite and manganese olivine. The stuff reduced is loose and massive as a whole and its porosity is from 30% to 45%. The low softening-melting property and the low density of the stuff impact, to some degree, the solid phase reduction of powder by microwave heating.展开更多

Using quantum computation combined with experimental results of proximate analysis, ultimate analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), a structural model for the large molecular structure was constructed. By analyzing the bond lengths in the model molecule, the evolution law for the active structure of lignite was predicted for the process of low-temperature oxidation. In low-temperature oxidation, alkanes and hydroxyls are the primary active structures observed in lignite, though ether may also react. These active functional groups react with oxygen to release heat, thereby speeding up the reaction between coal and oxygen. Finally, the content of various functional groups in the process of lignite low-temperature oxidation was analyzed by infrared analysis, and the accuracy of the model was verified.展开更多

The supply of REEs in U.S. solely relies on import as domestic production of REEs was ceased because of the environmental concerns during mining and lack of competitiveness. Nonetheless, unconventional REEs-containing resources, including produced water. acid mine drainage, and coal and coal byproducts(C&CBs) contain significant amounts of REEs. However, the concentrations of REEs in these resources are several orders of magnitude lower than that of REEs ores. Thus, extraction of REEs from these materials is challenging. Here we report REEs extraction with environmentally friendly method that successfully concentrated REEs from312 ppm in fly ash to 99.4% in the final product. Especially, the five critically important REEs(Dy, Eu, Nd.Tb. and Y) account for up to ~63% of the total weight of all REEs in the final 99.4%-purity product. Coal fly ash is one of the major solid coal utilization byproducts, representing great potential resources for REEs extraction. Extraction of REEs from these unconventional resources could be the way to secure domestic supply of these critical materials.展开更多

The study involved 94 male coal miners from the Velenje Coal mine, arranged into four groups: three groups according to the number of consecutive working days, and a fourth control group. Miners who worked for three consecutive days had higher blood levels of lead and 8-isoprostane than the control group(P 〈 0.001). Correlation between lead and 8-isoprostane was of medium strength(r = 0.512, P 〈 0.001). Short-term lead environmental exposure can potentially harmful and should be considered when formulating improvements in working processes.展开更多

The specific surface area of the char was found to decrease with increasing pyrolysis temperature. The interlayer spacing of the char also decreased, while the average stacking height and carbon crystal size increased at higher temperatures, suggesting that the char generated at high temperatures had a highly ordered structure. The char obtained using an ER value of 0.064 exhibited the highest specific surface area and oxidation reactivity. Rela- tively high 02 concentrations degraded the pore structure of the char, decreasing the surface area. The char produced in an atmosphere incorporating H2 showed a more condensed crystalline structure and consequently had lower oxidation reactivity.展开更多
