Phillygenin is an important phytochemical of Forsythiae fructus that has numerous health beneficial aspects in medicine,including its hepatoprotective,anti-inflammatory,anti-oxidant,and anti-tumor effects.Atractylon i...Phillygenin is an important phytochemical of Forsythiae fructus that has numerous health beneficial aspects in medicine,including its hepatoprotective,anti-inflammatory,anti-oxidant,and anti-tumor effects.Atractylon is the main active component of Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz.and has exhibited anti-inflammatory,anti-tumor and cytotoxicity against human cancer cell lines.Present review describes the biological potential,pharmacological activities and pharmacokinetics of phillygenin and atractylon in medicine based on the available scientific information of phillygenin and atractylon in Science Direct,Google,Google Scholar,PubMed and Scopus.In addition,present review also describes the molecular mechanism of phillygenin and atractylon with their analytical aspects.Present review revealed the therapeutic potential of phillygenin against liver disease,lung disease,inflammation,colitis,osteosarcoma,pancreatic cancer,oxidative stress and Helicobacter pylori.Phillygenin also has cytoprotective,analgesic,and antioxidant effects.Atractylon have significant effect on hepatic cancer,intestinal cancer,human leukemia,glioblastoma,cognitive dysfunction,allergic rhinitis,Na^(+),K^(+)-ATPase,intestinal permeability,and pulmonary fibrosis.Moreover,atractylon also has anti-inflammatory,hepatoprotective,gastroprotective,and antiviral activities in medicine.In addition,molecular mechanism and pharmacokinetic data of phillygenin and atractylon signified its clinical application in modern medicine.Analytical data of phillygenin and atractylon showed their importance in different medicinal plants.Concludingly,this review narrates the pharmacological activities of phillygenin and atractylon through their different molecular mechanism alongside its pharmacokinetics and analytical aspects with special emphasis on anticancer potential.However clinical data is needed in the scientific field in order to claim their therapeutic role in human disorders.展开更多
