Jātaka story paintings are common narrative subjects in Dunhuang murals.Based on corresponding scriptures,they present all kinds of good deeds that Sakyamuni sacrificed his life to save sentient beings in his previou...Jātaka story paintings are common narrative subjects in Dunhuang murals.Based on corresponding scriptures,they present all kinds of good deeds that Sakyamuni sacrificed his life to save sentient beings in his previous life.Dunhuang Jātaka story paintings are highly consistent with the scriptures in content,but their intuitiveness and expressiveness are more prominent.By comparing the narrative relationship between Jātaka story paintings in the Mogao Grottoes of Dunhuang and their corresponding scriptures,this study finds that the two have unity in reproducing artistic images and restoring key plots of classic Buddhist scripture stories,but there are great differences in the narrative effect.Dunhuang Jātaka story paintings have three prominent features in narrative,including visualization of key elements,concretization of expressions and movements,and contextualization of cause and effect.This study aims to reveal the intertextual narrative relationship between Dunhuang Jātaka story paintings and their corresponding scriptures.展开更多

This study employs the framework of translator behavior criticism to conduct a systematic examination of Julia Lovell’s English translation of The True Story of Ah Q,utilizing the“intra-translation and extra-transla...This study employs the framework of translator behavior criticism to conduct a systematic examination of Julia Lovell’s English translation of The True Story of Ah Q,utilizing the“intra-translation and extra-translation dichotomy.”The research investigates how extra-translation factors—such as the translator’s identity,translation motivations,and target readership positioning—shape the formation of the translated text.Through an analysis of intra-translation elements,including linguistic stylistic features,strategies for handling culture-loaded terms,and the use of paratexts,the study reveals the dynamic balance of Lovell’s translation within the“truth-seeking—utility-attaining”continuum.The findings demonstrate that as a Western sinologist-translator,Julia Lovell’s cultural identity,combined with the market-oriented approach of Penguin Books,has collectively shaped a distinctly“reader-oriented”characteristic in her translation.In rendering culture-specific items,she predominantly adopts domesticating strategies,enhancing readability through simplified sentence structures and other accessibility measures to achieve utilitarian goals.Simultaneously,the translator retains an appropriate degree of foreignness in the treatment of key cultural concepts,reflecting a dialectical balance between“authorial fidelity”and“reader adaptation.”展开更多

A dynamic analysis of both twisting and regular towers is carried out to determine the results of considering soil-structure interaction(SSI)on high-rise buildings.In addition,the difference between the seismic perfor...A dynamic analysis of both twisting and regular towers is carried out to determine the results of considering soil-structure interaction(SSI)on high-rise buildings.In addition,the difference between the seismic performance of using twisting towers over regular ones is investigated.The twisting tower is a simulation of the Evolution Tower(Moscow).The towers’skeletons consist of RC elements and rest on a reinforced concrete piled-raft foundation.The soil model is considered as multi-layered with the same soil properties as the zone chosen for the analysis(New Mansoura City,Egypt).The only difference between both towers is their shape in elevation.The whole system is modelled and analyzed in a single step as one full 3D model,which is known as the direct approach in SSI.All analyses are carried out using finite-element software(Midas GTS NX).Dynamic output responses due to three records of seismic loads are proposed and presented in some graphs.Based on the results,it is concluded that SSI has a considerable effect on the dynamic response of tall buildings mainly because of the foundation flexibility,as it leads to lengthening the vibration period,increasing the story drift and the base shear for both cases.展开更多

The aspect ratio of the structure has a significant impact on the overall stability of the ultra high-rise building. A large aspect ratio of the structure increases the risk of overturning and reduces the lateral stif...The aspect ratio of the structure has a significant impact on the overall stability of the ultra high-rise building. A large aspect ratio of the structure increases the risk of overturning and reduces the lateral stiffness of the structure, leading to significant tensile and compressive stresses in the isolated bearings. To study the effect of aspect ratio on the seismic response and overturning resistance of a new staggered story isolated structure, three models with different aspect ratios were established. Nonlinear time-history analysis of the three models was conducted using ETABS finite element software. The results indicate that the overturning moment and overturning resistance moment of the superstructure in the new staggered story isolated structure increase with an increasing aspect ratio. However, the increase in the overturning moment of the superstructure is much greater than the increase in the overturning resistance moment, resulting in a decrease in the overturning resistance ratio of the superstructure with an increasing aspect ratio. The overturning moment and overturning resistance moment of the substructure in the new staggered story isolated structure decrease with an increasing aspect ratio. However, the decrease in the overturning moment of the substructure is greater than the decrease in the overturning resistance moment, leading to an increase in the overturning resistance ratio of the substructure with an increasing aspect ratio. A new staggered isolated system developed from the mid-story isolated system is the new staggered story isolated system. There are not many studies on this structure currently. In this study, an 18-story new staggered...A new staggered isolated system developed from the mid-story isolated system is the new staggered story isolated system. There are not many studies on this structure currently. In this study, an 18-story new staggered story isolated system model is established using SAP2000. The dynamic nonlinear dynamic alternate method is used to analyze the structure against progressive collapse. Results show that the structure has good resistance to progressive collapse, and there is no progressive collapse under each working condition. The progressive collapse does not occur for the case of removing only one vertical structural member of the new staggered of isolated system. The side column has big influence on this isolated structures’ progressive collapse;the removal of vertical structural member of the isolation layer has less impact on the structure than the removal of the bottom vertical structural member. After the removing of the member, the internal force of the structure will be redistributed, and the axial force of the adjacent columns will change obviously, showing a trend of “near large and far small”.展开更多

Then combined with an actual engineering model (1:8similar ratio), the static loading and pseudo-dynamic tests of two models for laminated vierendeeltrass used in transfer story structures are conducted, in which one model adopts reinforcedconcrete, and the other adopts prestressed concrete and shape steel concrete. Seismic behaviors areanalyzed, including inter-story displacement, base shear-displacement skeleton curves, andequivalent viscosity-damping curves. A program is programmed to carry out the elasto-plastic dynamicanalysis, and displacement time-history curves of the two models are derived. The test and analysisresults show that the laminated vierendeel trass with prestressed concrete and shape steel concretehas excellent seismic behaviors.
