Based on BERTopic Model,the paper combines qualitative and quantitative methods to explore the reception of Can Xue’s translated works by analyzing readers’book reviews posted on Goodreads and Lovereading.We first c...Based on BERTopic Model,the paper combines qualitative and quantitative methods to explore the reception of Can Xue’s translated works by analyzing readers’book reviews posted on Goodreads and Lovereading.We first collected book reviews from these two well-known websites by Python.Through topic analysis of these reviews,we identified recurring topics,including details of her translated works and appreciation of their translation quality.Then,employing sentiment and content analysis methods,the paper explored the emotional attitudes and the specific thoughts of readers toward Can Xue and her translated works.The fingdings revealed that,among the 408 reviews,though the reception of Can Xue’s translated works was relatively positive,the current level of attention and recognition remains insufficient.However,based on the research results,the paper can derive valuable insights into the translation and dissemination processes such as adjusting translation and dissemination strategies,so that the global reach of Chinese literature and culture can be better facilitated.展开更多

Beginning with preliminary background information, e.g. the source book and write...Drawing upon the theory of reception aesthetics, this dissertation aims to discuss the translator's translation of You Can YouWill. Beginning with preliminary background information, e.g. the source book and writer, the translator further introduces theories andprevious related research, including Christian work. There are two representatives of reception theory; the translator stresses Jauss' per-spective of reception aesthetics, detailing his two key notions: the reader's decisive role and horizon of expectation. These notions shiftthe focus from the writer and text to the reader, which is a proven method to make the translation more acceptable to readers. Based onthe translation brief, target readers are Christians. During the translation process, the translator keeps key notions of reception aestheticstop-of-mind and strives to produce a version suitable for Christian readers. Some strategies, e.g. domestication and footnoting, are em-ployed to discuss the translation of biblical terms, Christian expressions, verses or stories from the Bible, metaphors and cultural items.In addition to these strategies, all translation is in accordance with CUV when encountering Bible-related text, due to CUV's authorityamong all versions of the Bible. Numerical studies are conducted...Based on the acoustic radiation theory of a dipole source, the influence of the transducer reception pattern is studied for magnetoacoustic tomography with magnetic induction（MAT-MI）. Numerical studies are conducted to simulate acoustic pressures, waveforms, and reconstructed images with unidirectional, omnidirectional, and strong directional transducers.With the analyses of equivalent and projection sources, the influences of the model dimension and the layer effect are qualitatively analyzed to evaluate the performance of MAT-MI. Three-dimensional simulation studies show that the strong directional transducer with a large radius can reduce the influences of equivalent sources, projection sources, and the layer effect effectively, resulting in enhanced pressure and improved image contrast, which is beneficial for boundary pressure extraction in conductivity reconstruction. The reconstructed conductivity contrast images present the conductivity boundaries as stripes with different contrasts and polarities, representing the values and directions of the conductivity changes of the scanned layer. The favorable results provide solid evidence for transducer selection and suggest potential practical applications of MAT-MI in biomedical imaging.展开更多

To accurately assess the performance of cooperative multiple packet reception （MPR） based on network-assisted diversity multiple access （NDMA）, non-ideal collision detection is introduced in ALLIANCES （ALLow impr...To accurately assess the performance of cooperative multiple packet reception （MPR） based on network-assisted diversity multiple access （NDMA）, non-ideal collision detection is introduced in ALLIANCES （ALLow improved access in the network via cooperation and energy savings）. To provide a unified anatysis frame- work, the length of cooperative transmission epoch is fixed to the detected collision order. The mathematical analysis of potential throughput （PTP） and potential packet loss rate （PPLR） are given under a pessimistic assumption and an optimistic assumption. According to the analysis of PTP and PPLR, threshold selection is done to optimize system performances, e.g. the optimal threshold should guarantee PTP to be maximum or guarantee PPLR to be minimum. In simulations, the thresholds are selected according to PTP under the pessimistic assumption. Simulation results show that the proposed cooperative MPR scheme can achieve higher throughput than NDMA and slotted ALOHA schemes.展开更多

Lau's versions of Mencius, a comparative study will be conducted on the key philosophical term: Ren. After comparison, reasons for the differences will be stated. Targeting at missionaries, James adopted the 19 century old English and strived for faithfulness. Lau's translation work is of high academic value and receives good comments popularly in western sinology circle, being considered as the exemplary work for translating Chinese classics into English. Zhao et al. translated Mencius for modern readers, who might have acquired more knowledge of China and want to learn something about Mencius. Quantitative analysis shows that Ren appears 157 times in Mencius, and"benevolent/benevolence"gains a dominant position in these three versions.展开更多
