Improving the activity of waste concrete recycled powder by a mechanical-microwave combing method

Purpose–The efficient utilization of recycled concrete powder(RCP)has attracted much attention.To break through the limitation of single activation technology of RCP,this study investigates the effects of a mechanical-microwave method on the reactivity of RCP.Design/methodology/approach–The mechanical properties,hydration products,and pore structure of RCP-incorporated mortar were evaluated.Findings–The results demonstrate that the combined activation reduces the median particle size of RCP and induces a low-frequency shift in the Si-O-T FT-IR characteristic peaks,signifying depolymerization of the silicate network and formation of highly reactive broken bond sites.Concurrently,decreased Si2p and Al2p binding energies in XPS spectra confirm enhanced surface reactivity.The 28-day strength activity index(SAI)of RCP mortar improved from 65.7(untreated)to 82.2%under optimal activation conditions(90-min ball milling followed by 10-min microwave irradiation),outperforming solely mechanical activation by 3.6–6.1%.Furthermore,combined activation increased chemically bound water content from 22.8 to 33.7%,accompanied by a low-wavenumber shift in FT-IR peaks of hydration products.The total porosity of RCP mortar decreased from 17.2 to 14.6%,indicating a denser pore structure.Originality/value–This study explores the feasibility and potential mechanism of mechanical-microwave activation of RCP,aiming to provide valuable insights for the sustainable development of materials.Using activated RCP in cement-based materials reduces the demand for cement and substantially cuts carbon emissions,thereby making a critical contribution to the construction industry’s green and low-carbon transition. 展开更多

Poly(lactic acid)(PLA),a bio-based polymer,is considered to be a sustainable alternative to conventional petroleum-based plastics.However,owing to its widespread use and relatively slow degradation rate in water,PLA still poses potential environmental pollution risks after being discarded.The efficient chemical recycling of PLA represents an attractive approach to addressing both resource reuse and environmental pollution challenges caused by its waste.Hydrolysis is the predominant method of industrial recycling.However,because PLA is insoluble in water,efficient heterogeneous hydrolysis requires high-temperature and high-pressure conditions.In this study,an efficient homogenous hydrolysis method capable of simultaneously dissolving PLA and calcium hydroxide(Ca(OH)_(2))was developed.Suitable solvents for this method were screened,and it was found that PLA hydrolysis using dioxane and 1,4,7,10,13-Pen-taoxacyclopentadecane as solvents achieved conversion rates of 93%and 90%,respectively,within 2 h at room temperature.Notably,the hydrolysis product,calcium lactate,precipitated as a solid from the solvent and therefore self-separated from the reaction solution.The solvent,acid/base conditions,water content,and depolymerization kinetics were investigated.Compared with previously reported hydrolysis methods,the enhanced efficiency observed in this study can be attributed to the concurrent solvation of PLA and Ca(OH)_(2),which maintains homogeneity throughout the reaction process.Additionally,this method facilitates closed-loop recycling of PLA and is compatible with the highly selective recovery of PLA from various types of PLA products. 展开更多

Towards sustainable pavement construction: A review of the degree of blending in hot recycled asphalt mixture

The use of hot recycled asphalt mixture(HRAM)allows for a reduction in the depletion of non-renewable resources and presents environmental benefits.However,concerns arise regarding the performance of HRAM due to the lower degree of blending(DOB)of virgin and aged asphalt(V&A asphalt).This paper aims to provide an up-to-date review on the DOB of V&A asphalt in HRAM.Initially,the paper introduces the DOB of V&A asphalt,followed by an analysis of the blending theory,evaluation methods,and influencing factors of DOB.Subsequently,the effect of DOB on the performance of HRAM is investigated,and molecular dynamic simulation is utilized to analyze the blend of V&A asphalt.Finally,methods for improving DOB are summarized.It was found that the use of high-resolution microscopy with tracer methods such as SEM/EDS was an effective way to characterize DOB.Furthermore,the chemical composition and colloid structure between virgin and aged asphalt are crucial to DOB.Additionally,improving DOB by utilizing the coupling effect of time and temperature during transportation,paving,and compaction stages is promising.Future research should focus on standardizing test methods,refining field simulation models,and developing intelligent construction technologies to achieve more efficient and durable blending.This review provides theoretical guidance and practical references for improving the DOB of V&A asphalt and promoting sustainable pavement construction. 展开更多

In this paper,the effects of different influencing factors and factor interaction on the compressive strength and permeability of recycled aggregate pervious concrete(RAPC)were studied based on the response surface method(RSM).By selecting the maximum aggregate size,water cement ratio and target porosity as design variables,combined with laboratory tests and numerical analysis,the influences of three factors on the compressive strength and permeability coefficient of RAPC were revealed.The regression equation of compressive strength and permeability coefficient of recycled aggregate pervious concrete were established based on RSM,and the response surface model was optimized to determine the optimal ratio of RAPC under the conditions of meeting the mechanical and permeability properties.The results show that the mismatch item of the model is not significant,the model is credible,and the accuracy and reliability of the test are high,but the degree of uncorrelation between the test data and the model is not obvious.The sensitivity of the three factors to the compressive strength is water cement ratio>maximum coarse aggregate particle size>target porosity,and the sensitivity to the permeability coefficient is target porosity>maximum coarse aggregate particle size>water cement ratio.The absolute errors of the model prediction results and the model optimization results are 1.28 MPa and 0.19 mm/s,and the relative errors are 5.06%and 4.19%,respectively.With high accuracy,RSM can match the measured results of compressive strength and permeability coefficient of RAPC. 展开更多

The reduction diffusion method was performed for the sludge scrap of Nd-Fe-B sintered magnets with adding Ca metal to recover the oxidized Nd-Fe-B phase. After washing the resultant powders to remove Ca metal component, the powders obtained were recycled as an isotropic magnetic powder by the melt spinning method. The magnetic properties of powders as recycled were inferior, especially for the coercivity value, due to the deletion of rare earth metals during the washing process. The adjustment of metal composition, i.e., the addition of Nd metal, at the melt spinning process improved the magnetic properties to be B r=~0.75 T, H cj=~0.93 mA·m -1, and (BH) max=~91 kJ·m -3. The magnetic properties of the bonded magnets prepared from the composition-adjusted powders were B r=~0.66 T, H cj=~0.92 mA·m -1, and (BH) max=~70 kJ·m -3, which are approximately comparable to the commercially available MQPB boned one (B r=~0.73 T, H cj=~0.79 mA·m -1, and (BH) max=~86 kJ·m -3). 展开更多

Phosphorous slag (PHS), ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) and fly ash (FA) were used as replacements of Portland cement to modify the microstruc^xe of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC). A new manufacturing method named "W3T4" was proposed to improve the performances of interracial transition zone (ITZ) between recycled aggregate and mortar. The mechanical properties and the durability of RAC were tested, which show that this new manufacturing method improves the properties of RAC, and the GGBS with finest size makes a great contribution to the performance of RAC due to its better filling effect and much earlier pozzolanic reaction. Combined with GGBS, the effects of PHS on the retardation of setting time can be alleviated and the synergistic effect helps to make a more compact RAC. For the RAC with 25% of the recycled aggregate (RA) replacement and 10% PHS + 10% GGBS additives, the compressive strength increases by 25.4%, but the permeability decreases by 64.3% with respect to the reference concrete made with nature aggregates. The micro-mechanisms of these improvements were investigated by the scanning electron microscope (SEM). The SEM images show that the new manufacturing method, adding superfine pozzolanic powders and super-plasticizer benefits, makes a much denser ITZ in RAC. 展开更多

The effect of curing age on chloride diffusion coefficient of recycled aggregate concrete subjected to different compressive stresses was investigated.A compression loading setup was both designed and fabricated.The chloride diffusion coefficients of recycled aggregate concrete under compressive stresses were measured by the rapid chloride ion migration(RCM)method.The experimental results show that the chloride diffusion coefficients of recycled aggregate concrete(RAC)under different compressive stress ratios generally decrease with the increase of curing age.For RAC subjected to the same compressive stress ratios,the chloride diffusion coefficients approximately have power functions with curing ages and the relationship models are proposed.Moreover,the influence of curing age on chloride diffusion coefficient firstly decreases and then increases as the compressive stress ratio increases. 展开更多

Due to the presence of old mortar (OM) and interfacial transition zone (ITZ),recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) is inferior to natural aggregate (NA).The purpose of this paper was to study the effect of accelerated carbonation on the macro-properties and micro-properties of RCA under different pressure(0.05,0.15,0.30 MPa).The macro-property tests included colour change,apparent density,water absorption,and crushing value of RCA.The micro-property tests included scanning electron microscopy (SEM),X-ray diffraction (XRD),thermogravimetry-differential scanning calorimetry (TG-DSC),and Vickers micro-hardness(VMH).The results showed that the change trends of apparent density,water absorption,and crushing value of RCA displayed exponential relationships as pressure increasing,with the optimum pressure of 0.30 MPa.SEM images indicated that the calcite caused by the hydration products in RCA and the Ca(OH)_(2) derived from saturated lime water improved the properties of RCA;as the apparent density increased,the water absorption and crushing value decreased.The results of XRD and TG-DSC indicated that,as the pressure increased,the masses of Ca(OH)_(2) in carbonated RCA gradually decreased,while those of CaCO_(3) gradually increased,which demonstrated that the carbonation degree gradually increased.Besides,ITZ-2 was the weakest phase in RCA,but its improvement degree of VMH by accelerated carbonation was higher than that of OM.However,RCA was not completely carbonated,but only carbonated in a certain depth after 24 h accelerated carbonation. 展开更多

In this paper, Okhuen wood sawdust and recycled polyethylene (RLDPE) were blended and then hot-pressed to produce sawdust/recycled polyethylene composite board. The optimum processing parameters for preparing the composite such as temperature, pressing time, sawdust/RLDPE content and pressure were investigated and optimized using L<sub>9</sub> (3<sup>4</sup>) Taguchi experimental design orthogonal array. The tensile strength of the various formulations was determined. The results show that those factors made different effects on the tensile strength of the composites. The optimized process conditions obtained are as follows: press time 7 min, press temperature 180°C, saw-dust/RLDPE 60:40%, press pressure 40kg/cm<sup>2</sup>. The average tensile strength of the optimized composite board was 13.991 MPa. The composite board met the standard for general purpose applications. 展开更多

Ti/BMMs (Ti supported bimodal mesoporous silica) catalysts have been prepared via self-assembly route com- bined with ship-in-a-bottle method. The recovery and recycling performances of Ti/BMMs were investigated in the epoxidation of cyclohexene. In order to the evaluate the regeneration methods and to examine the deactivation behaviors, the deactivated Ti/BMMs catalysts were washed in chloroform or calcinated at 450 ℃ for 6 h and then activity of the recovery catalysts were examined. Meanwhile, the structure features and surface properties of the regenerated catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction, N2-sorption analysis, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravi- metric analysis, UV visible spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results showed that the typical bimodal mesoporous structure of recycled Ti/BMMs catalysts was still maintained, and the phenomenon of Ti leaching during the catalytic process and recovery was negligible. In particular, spectroscopic observations indicated that the effects of the regeneration methods on the tetrahedrally-coordinated Ti species and catalytic deactivation were remarkable. The main reasons were related to the polarities of used solvents during recovery tests, the environment medium of adsorbed water inside mesopore channels and the deposition of bulky mole- cules of by-products on the mesoporous surface. 展开更多

A parallel finite element scheme for 3D resistivity method forward modeling is introduced in this article.The domain decomposition algorithm,along with a message passing interface,is used to implement parallelism.The computational domain is divided into subdomains,and mesh partitioning is combined with load balancing.Unstructured meshes and local mesh refinement strategies are used to realize high precision for complex topography models.Furthermore,an improved linear solver for multi-electrode resistivity method modeling is adopted.Recycling preconditioned conjugate gradient,which is a linear solver,is based on the similarity of linear systems between point sources.The multiple right-hand-side linear systems corresponding to different point source positions are constructed,and the accelerated convergence is obtained through recycling subspace using the linear solver.The computational accuracy and efficiency of the forward scheme for complex topography models are verified using the numerical test results. 展开更多

针对当前残膜回收机存在表层拾净率低、脱膜困难等问题,本文对现有的一款残膜捡拾打包机捡拾装置进行改进,设计了凸轮控制伸缩齿式滚筒捡拾装置。阐述了伸缩齿式滚筒捡拾装置整体结构和工作原理,通过对残膜捡拾过程进行受力分析,确定了... 针对当前残膜回收机存在表层拾净率低、脱膜困难等问题,本文对现有的一款残膜捡拾打包机捡拾装置进行改进,设计了凸轮控制伸缩齿式滚筒捡拾装置。阐述了伸缩齿式滚筒捡拾装置整体结构和工作原理,通过对残膜捡拾过程进行受力分析,确定了伸缩齿弯曲角、转速以及排列,分析了凸轮盘轮廓曲线方程,并通过反转法得到实际凸轮轮廓曲线。采用离散元法建立膜土秆多相离散元模型,以滚筒转速、前进速度和作业深度为试验因素,以残膜表层拾净率为试验指标,进行二次回归正交旋转组合试验,分析了各试验因素对残膜表层拾净率的影响规律,确定了捡拾装置最优参数组合为滚筒转速57 r/min、前进速度7 km/h、作业深度47 mm,此时残膜表层拾净率达90.8%。对比田间验证试验结果表明,残膜表层拾净率为87.78%,相对误差为3.33%,且改进后设备表层拾净率提升16.02个百分点,满足作业标准要求。研究结果可为残膜回收机设计提供理论依据,对农田“白色污染”治理具有应用价值。 展开更多

不同线路板资源化技术的环境碳足迹评价

废弃印刷电路板(Waste Printed Circuit Boards,WPCBs)的资源化回收对环境保护和资源循环利用具有重要意义。然而,不同回收技术在能源消耗、废物排放和碳足迹方面存在显著差异。对水力摇床分选、旋风分离和熔炼3种典型WPCBs回收技术的... 废弃印刷电路板(Waste Printed Circuit Boards,WPCBs)的资源化回收对环境保护和资源循环利用具有重要意义。然而,不同回收技术在能源消耗、废物排放和碳足迹方面存在显著差异。对水力摇床分选、旋风分离和熔炼3种典型WPCBs回收技术的碳足迹进行了系统评估,并采用排放因子法核算电力、水资源消耗、燃料燃烧及废物处理等环节的碳排放。研究结果表明,熔炼法由于高温冶炼过程能耗较高,碳排放最高;水力摇床分选法和旋风分离法主要依赖电力驱动,虽然碳排放相对较低,但非金属废弃物处理仍带来额外的碳排放负担。此外,通过分析各工艺环节的碳排放构成,发现能源消耗仍是主要碳排放来源。为实现低碳回收,建议优化工艺流程、提升能源利用效率、提高资源回收率,并结合政策引导推动企业绿色转型。研究可为WPCBs回收行业的低碳发展及“双碳”目标的实现提供数据支撑和决策参考。 展开更多

Oily cold rolling mill (CRM) sludge is one of the pollutants emitted by iron and steel plants. Recycling oily CRM sludge can not only reduce pollution but also bring social and environmental benefits. In this study, using oily CRM sludge as sources of iron oxide, the strontium ferrite powders were synthesized in multiple steps including vacuum distillation, magnetic separation, oxidizing roasting, and solidstate reaction. The optimal technological conditions of vacuum distillation and oxidizing roasting were studied carefully. To consider the effects of Fe203/ SrCO3 tool ratio, calcination temperature, milling time and calcination time on magnetic properties of prepared strontium ferrite powders, the orthogonal experimental method was adopted. The maximum saturation magneti- zation (62.6 mA-m2.g-1) of the synthesized strontium ferrite powders was achieved at the Fe203/SrCO3 mol ratio of 6, 5 h milling time, 1250 ~C calcination temperature, and 1 h calcination time. Strontium ferrite powders syn- thesis method not only provides a cheap, high quality raw material for the production of strontium ferrite powders, but also effectively prevents the environmental pollution. 展开更多

The aim of this study was to develop a new approach for the preparation of environmentally friendly, high-value products from oily cold rolling mill(CRM) sludge. Utilizing oily CRM sludge as a source of iron, strontium hexaferrite(SrFe_(12)O_(19)) powders were prepared by multi-step processes involving acid leaching, chemical conversion treatment, and synthesis by a citrate precursor. The influences of citric acid dosage and the pH of the sol system on the formation, crystallite size, and magnetic properties of the obtained SrFe_(12)O_(19) powders were investigated. High saturation magnetization(74.8 mA·m^2·g^(–1)) and intrinsic coercivities(614.46 mT) were achieved for pH 7.0 of the sol system, for which the molar ratio of citric acid dosage to the total dosage of Fe^(3+) and Sr^(2+) was 1.5. This study presents a new approach to utilizing oily CRM sludge, and even refractory iron-containing solid waste. 展开更多
