METHODS:A total of 120 patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures treated by vertebroplasty at our hospital were divided into four groups. The control group received non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, the Treatment Group Ⅰ received acupuncture alone, Treatment Group Ⅱ was treated with medicated wine for warming meridians alongside polarized light physiotherapy, and Treatment Group Ⅲ received a combination of medicated wine for warming meridians, polarized light therapy, and acupuncture. The clinical efficacy, pain thresholds at various time points, temperature pain threshold, electric pain threshold, quality of life, sleep quality index, lumbar dysfunction index, visual analog scale(VAS) scores, and incidence of adverse reactions were compared and analyzed across the four groups. RESULTS:The total clinical effective rate in Treatment Group Ⅲ was significantly higher than that in the control group, Treatment Group Ⅰ, and Treatment Group Ⅱ(P < 0.05). At 24 and 72 h post-treatment, the VAS scores, temperature pain thresholds, and electric pain thresholds in Treatment Group Ⅲ were significantly lower than those in the control group, Treatment Group Ⅰ, and Treatment Group Ⅱ(P < 0.05). Additionally, quality-of-life scores in Treatment Group Ⅲ were markedly higher compared to the control group, Treatment Group Ⅰ, and Treatment Group Ⅱ, while the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scores, Oswestry Disability Index scores, and incidence of adverse reactions in Treatment Group Ⅲ were significantly lower than in the other groups(P < 0.05). CONCLUSION:The external application of warm meridian medicated wine and polarized light therapy combined with acupuncture significantly reduces postoperative pain following vertebroplasty, enhances lumbar function, and improves both sleep quality and overall quality of life for patients. This approach is recommended for clinical application.展开更多

The triple therapy of meridian tendon Tuina+acupuncture+cupping originally created by Zhuang medicine and head bloodletting by Zhuang medicine were used to improve the numbness symptoms of patients. This provides a new thinking mode for acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of lower limb numbness after stroke.展开更多

Methods Sixty rats were randomly divided into 5 groups: model group, Stomach (ST) Meridian group, Gallbladder (GB) Meridian group, ST+ PD153035 group and GB+ PD153035 group. Water-immersion and restrained stress method was adopted for preparation of the stress-induced gastric ulcer rat model, and the gastric mucosa cells were separated by using pronase digestion method. Gastric mucosa cells were incubated respectively with PD153035, EGFR inhibitor and the serum; PLCγ-1's expression level in gastric mucosa cells was tested by enzyme-linked immunosorbant assay (ELISA), and PKC activity by isotope mingling method; and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction assay (RT-PCR) was used for testing expression level of c-myc gene. Results The expression levels of PLCγ-1 ,PKC and c- myc gene were lower in gastric mucosa cells in the model group; there were relatively high expression levels of PLCγ-1 ,PKC and c-myc gene in the ST Meridian group and the GB Meridian group, with the highest expression levels of PLCγ-1 ,PKC and c-myc gene in the ST Meridian, and with a significant difference between the ST Meridian group and the GB Meridian group (P〈0.01 ) ; and relative lower expression levels of PLCγ-1, PKC and c-myc gene were seen in the ST + PD153035 group and the GB + PD153035 group; and there was a significant difference between the ST Meridian group and the ST + PD153035 group (P〈0.01). Conclusion There was a close correlation between the healing effect of electroacupuncture and activation of the EGFR signal transduction pathway in the impaired gastric mucosa cells, which was also one proof for the TCM theory: "There is relative specificity between the meridians and viscera".展开更多

Accordingly, volunteers have reported propagated sensations along the meridians (PSM). The present study was designed to utilize a cortical somatosensory-evoked potential (CSEP) topographic map for determining whether stimulation expansion occurs in somatosensory area I when sensation was provoked in individuals with obvious PSM. The sensation was blocked by mechanical compression, and the sensation was imitated in individuals without PSM. Results revealed a red, high-potential signal in the representative area of the lower limbs in individuals with obvious PSM symptoms when the Gall Bladder Meridian (GBM) sensation passed to the head and face. This representative area was near the middle line of the CSEP topographic map, and a red, high-potential signal, which jumps over the representative area of the upper limbs, also appeared in the representative face area, which was at the external region of the CSEP topographic map. However, in individuals exhibiting no PSM, only a red high-potential signal appeared in the representative lower limb area. When Hegu (LI 4) was stimulated in individuals without PSM, an obvious evoked response appeared only in the representative upper limb area. However, when Hegu was stimulated in individuals exhibiting PSM, the response area was larger in the representative upper limb area and extended to the representative face area. When Guangrning (GB 37) was stimulated in PSM individuals, the face representation response disappeared and was confined to a foot representation of the somatosensory area I when PSM was blocked by mechanical pressure. Results suggested that mechanical compression blocked PSM, and corresponding changes were exhibited in the CSEP topographic map. These results provide compelling evidence for the hypothesis that peripheral driver stimulation is the key element in producing PSM.展开更多

Methods we detected one major skin gap junction connexin (connexin43, Cx43) in meridians and acupoints, and studied the expression of Cx43 in Zusanli (足三里 ST 36) acupoints compared with control non-acupoint regions in rats after acupuncture treatments. The expression of Cx43 was detected by using immunohisto- chemistry, immunoblotting, and RT-PCR for Cx43 protein and mRNA level. Results The results showed much more abundant Cx43 expression in some cells in the skin and subcutaneous tissue of rat at ST 36 acupoints and bladder and kidney meridians than that of in the controls. The mRNA and protein levels of Cx43 in acupoints were significantly higher than those of in the control points in non-acupuncture groups and even more so after acupuncture treatments. Conclusion Our research implied that connexins and gap junctions could have a close relationship to acupoints and meridians, and gap junctional intercellular communication might play an important role in the effect of acupuncture.展开更多

Methods Sixty-four patients were randomly divided into two groups: group AQF, and group CA with 32 cases in each group. Jiānyú (肩髃 LI 15), Jiānliáo (肩髎 TE 14), Jiānzhēn (肩贞 SI 9), Bìnào (臂臑 LI 14), Qūchí (曲池 LI 11) and Wàiguān (外关 TE 5) on the affected side were used in both groups, and the two acupuncture methods were respectively used in the two groups for consecutive 2 courses. Pain and moving functions of shoulder and ability in daily life (ADL) were used as indices for evaluating therapeutic effects. Results The total effective rate was 96.9% (31/32) and 81.3% (26/32) in group AQF and group CA, respectively, showing superiority of AQF to CA (P〈0.05). Scores reflecting pain and moving functions of shoulder and ADL were all improved after treatment in both groups (all P〈0.05), and the improvement in group AQF was more obvious than those in group CA (all P〈0.05). Conclusion In treating periarthritis of shoulder, the acupuncture accelerating qi-flow along meridians was better than conventional acupuncture in alleviating pain of the shoulder, improving its moving function and elevating abilities in daily life.展开更多

文摘Numerous studies from different international groups have demonstrated that sensations can be propagated along acupuncture channel pathways. The propagated sensation along the channel pathway(PSCP)can be elicited by electroacupuncture(EA),transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation(TENS),manual acupuncture(MA),and heat applied to distal acupuncture points(acupoints).Nitric oxide(NO)levels were reported to be elevated in the gracile nucleus and skin regions near to the EA sites, with higher levels at acupoints associated with an enhanced expression of NO synthase and transient receptor potential vanilloid type 1.The stimuli,EA,MA,TENS,and heat, have been used to elicit axonal reflexes, which increase local release of NO and neuropeptides such as calcitonin gene related peptide.Furthermore, the sensation of PSCP along the body surface occurs only ipsilaterally to the stimulated acupoints in various human studies, which does not support the involvement of the spinal-thalamic pathway, which would involve cross over transmission of the signals. The gracile nucleus receives ascending input from the sciatic nerve and responds to somatosensory stimulation mainly on the ipsilateral side via the dorsal column pathway.EA at Zusanli(ST36)increases NO release and expression of NO synthase mainly in the ipsilateral side of the gracile nucleus, while the cardiovascular effects and analgesic responses to EA at ST36 are changed by influences of l-arginine-derived NO synthesis in the ipsilateral gracile nucleus in rats. The stimuli-induced release of NOergic molecules and neuropeptides exist high levels in the acupoints, which contain rich neuronal components and blood vessels.Enhanced NOergic molecules at acupoints cause axon reflexes during the stimuli, which elevate cutaneous blood flow.Elevated NOergic molecules and local blood flow may spread over acupoints one after another along the meridian lines differing from nerve pathways following the stimuli to induce PSCP.The same types of stimulation also elicit NO release in the gracile nucleus, which contributes to the somatosensory signal transduction of PSCP through the dorsal medulla-thalamic pathways.Other substances such as serotonin and catecholamines are proposed to mediate responses and certain effects of acupuncture-like stimulation but their mechanisms are poorly-understood.In this review we summarize the current understanding of the neurobiological processes of PSCP research with an emphasis on recent developments of NO mediating stimulation-evoked axon reflexes and somatosensory signal transduction for PSCP perceptions through the dorsal medulla-thalamic pathways.

文摘Objective To explore the metabolic differences between dry eye patients with Qi-Yin defi-ciency and heat stagnation in liver meridian patterns, and clarify their metabolic characteris-tics.Methods Patients with dry eye who were treated in the Ophthalmology Ward and Outpatient Department of the First Hospital of Hunan University of Chinese Medicine from October 1,2020,to October 30,2021 were enrolled as the research participants in the study. They were assigned to two groups based on traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)syndrome types:heat stagnation in liver meridian pattern group and Qi-Yin deficiency pattern group.Healthy vol-unteers who underwent health check-ups in the Health Management Department were in-cluded as healthy group following the random number table method. The tears of the pa-tients and the healthy volunteer participants were tested by high-performance liquid chro-matography-mass spectrometry(LC-MS).The differential metabolites were screened out by multivariate statistical analysis, and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG)pathway enrichment was performed on the differential metabolites. Finally, the association analysis of differential proteins and metabolites was conducted to verify and supplement the metabolites. Results A total of 32 dry eye patients were enrolled, including 16 cases with heat stagnation in liver meridian pattern and 16 cases with Qi-Yin deficiency pattern.Fourteen healthy volun-teers were included as healthy group. There were no significant differences in baseline char-acteristics among the three groups(P>0.05).A total of 412 biomarkers were determined in Qi-Yin deficiency pattern group, mainly including lipids,lipid-like molecules, organic acids and their derivatives, organic heterocyclic compounds, and nucleosides and their analogues. For heat stagnation in liver meridian pattern group,112 metabolites were determined,main-ly including organic acids and their derivatives, lipids, and lipid-like molecules. The KEGG enrichment results of pathways and the relative content analysis of differential markers de-monstrate that purine metabolism and caffeine metabolism pathways are common metabol-ic characteristics of all dry eyes.Among them, deoxyinosine monophosphate(dIMP)and 2-(formamido)-N1-(5-phospha-D-ribosyl)acetamidine can serve as their biomarkers. The main characteristics of Qi-Yin deficiency syndrome pattern were the significant enhancement of metabolic pathways such as lysine degradation, ovarian steroidogenesis, cholesterol metabolism, pyrimidine metabolism, and bile secretion(P<0.05).Dry eye associated with the heat stagnation in liver meridian pattern is mainly characterized by inhibition of the valine, leucine, and isoleucine biosynthesis pathways(P<0.05).Conclusion Metabolomics can be used as an effective basis for TCM syndrome classification.Different patterns of dry eye syndrome exhibit typical characteristics in the types and concen-trations of metabolites, which correspond to the syndrome classification in TCM.This study initially confirms the rationality of TCM syndrome classification and provides significant ref-erence for the mechanism of dry eye and drug development.

文摘The meridian theory is an important component of traditional Chinese medicine, playing a crucial role in disease diagnosis, treatment, and health preservation.Serving as the media for the effects of acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal medicine, and acupressure massage, meridians exert undeniable impact on the human body. However, the essence of meridians remains a topic of debate.Recent research has primarily focused on their anatomical structures, leading to numerous hypotheses.Simultaneously, other researchers have approached this subject from an energetic perspective, discovering information interactions within the meridian system. These findings suggest that meridians possess both physical and information dimensions, indicating that a singular approach to their study is insufficient. To bridge this gap,a shift from purely structural research toward an exploration of the information aspects of meridians is necessary.By integrating this information approach with traditional meridian theory,it may be possible to develop a new, modernized meridian theory that is aligned with contemporary concepts, making it more accessible and applicable in clinical settings.

文摘Based on the understanding of lower limb numbness after stroke in Zhuang medicine, this study makes diagnosis and treatment of lower limb numbness after stroke from the clinical differentiation and treatment ideas of "numbness due to Shaoyang (lesser Yang)" through Zhuang Medicine Meridian Tendon Therapy. The triple therapy of meridian tendon Tuina+acupuncture+cupping originally created by Zhuang medicine and head bloodletting by Zhuang medicine were used to improve the numbness symptoms of patients. This provides a new thinking mode for acupuncture and moxibustion treatment of lower limb numbness after stroke.
文摘The meridians, nervous system, and circulatory system are important components of tra‐ditional Chinese medicine and modern medicine. The meridians have a high degree of consistency with the distribution of the nervous and circulatory systems in modern medi‐cine, and are closely related in the process of disease treatment. Therefore, people often confuse the three.Based on the great advantages of acupuncture and moxibustion in the treatment of nervous system and circulatory system diseases, the author has made diver‐sified exploration on its relevance in terms of origin, physiological anatomy, physiological function and clinical application. It is believed that meridians have their relative indepen‐dence, and the nervous and circulatory systems cannot completely replace meridians. However, meridians are closely related to the nervous and circulatory systems, and in clinical practice, meridians can be combined with the nervous and circulatory systems to guide the treatment of diseases.

文摘The theory of“Salt-processing enhancing drug into kidney meridian”was firstly put forward by Chen Jiamu,a medical doctor of Xin’an,in“Enlightening Primer of Materia Medica”.This theory integrates the theory of the five elements of Chinese medicine that the five flavors enter into the five viscera, and forms the theory of the role of the auxiliary materials of Chinese medicine concoctions. This theory is an important guiding significance for the clinical use of raw and cooked Chinese medicine tablets. At present, there are more studies on the theory of“Salt-processing enhancing drug into kidney meridian”in the literature, mainly focusing on the chemical composition, efficacy changes and the concoction mechanism of salt products of traditional Chinese medicines before and after salt preparation. There are relatively few review papers on the theory of“Salt-processing enhancing drug into kidney meridian”from the perspectives of auxiliary salt and attribution of meridians. In this paper, through reviewing relevant ancient books and literature, and on the basis of the previous review articles, this paper centers on the auxiliary salt, and conducts in-depth excavation and elaboration in terms of its sources, types, and the historical evolution of the salt production method. From the perspective of categorization, focusing on the core theory of“Kidney stores essence, governing reproduction, bone and generating marrow, water and brain”,we summarize the changes in efficacy before and after the salt preparation of kidney tonic traditional Chinese medicines, the changes in external and internal constituents as well as the scientific connotation of the concocting mechanism behind the effect-constituent changes. The scientific connotation of the concoction theory of“Salt-processing enhancing drug into kidney meridian”was initially elucidated, providing a new reference model for the study of the theory of Chinese medicine concoction attribution.

文摘Objective To study the effect of the serum derived from the rats treated with electroacupunctre at Stomach Meridian acupoints on the EGFR signal transduction pathway in gastric mucosal cells. Conclusion There was a close correlation between the healing effect of electroacupuncture and activation of the EGFR signal transduction pathway in the impaired gastric mucosa cells, which was also one proof for the TCM theory: "There is relative specificity between the meridians and viscera".
文摘Objective To compare the clinical therapeutic effects on scapulohumeral periarthritis between kinetic acupuncture on the distal points of the affected meridians and shoulder three-needle therapy. Methods Fifty cases of scapulohumeral periarthritis were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group,25 cases for each. The cases in observation group were treated with kinetic acupuncture on the distal points of the affected meridians. For example, the case of Hand-Taiyin type was treated with Yújì (鱼际 LU 10) and the case of Hand-Yangming type was treated with Hégǔ (合谷 LI 4),etc.The cases in control group were treated with shoulder three-needle therapy,in which,Jiānqián (肩前 Extral),Jiānyú (肩髃 LI 15) and Jiānliáo (肩髎 TE 14) were selected;7 days of treatment made one session, totally 2 sessions were required. Results In observation group, the curative rate based on ROM of shoulder joint was 72.0% (18/25),which was superior to that of 40.0% (10/25) in control group (P0.05).After treatment, the improvements of McGill SF-MPQ score,VAS and PPI in observation group were all superior to those in control group (all P0.05).Conclusion The kinetic acupuncture on the distal points of the affected meridians is advantageous at analgesia and motor improvements of shoulder joint in treatment of scapulohumeral periarthritis as compared with shoulder three-needle therapy.

文摘The peripheral driver stimulating theory states that as a driver passes along a certain meridian during acupuncture; the driver provokes nerve sense devices along the meridian, resulting in the nerve impulse entering the central nervous system. These results provide compelling evidence for the hypothesis that peripheral driver stimulation is the key element in producing PSM.

文摘Objective To explore the relationship between connexin 43 and acupoints and meridians. Conclusion Our research implied that connexins and gap junctions could have a close relationship to acupoints and meridians, and gap junctional intercellular communication might play an important role in the effect of acupuncture.
文摘Objective To compare differences in therapeutic effects between acupuncture accelerating qi-flow along meridians (AQF) and conventional acupuncture (CA) in treating periarthritis of shoulder to find better acupuncture methods. Conclusion In treating periarthritis of shoulder, the acupuncture accelerating qi-flow along meridians was better than conventional acupuncture in alleviating pain of the shoulder, improving its moving function and elevating abilities in daily life.

文摘The Earth is buffered from the ferocious onslaught of the solar wind by a thin layer of matter known as the atmosphere and geospace. This layer absorbs energy from irradiance and outburst from the Sun,as well as from disasters, transient phenomena and anthropogenic emissions originated from Earth.Through complicated physics, the absorbed energy changes the atmospheric and geospace state and sometimes gets re-released to power extreme events such as space weather.Taking place globally, these complicated processes cannot be understood unless they are studied globally. The Chinese scientists have proposed the International Meridian Circle Program(IMCP)to meet this demand.By operating nearly 1000 instruments encompassing all latitudes along with the 120°E–60°W longitudes,IMCP aims, for the first time,to construct comprehensive 3D data representation of the atmosphere and geospace on a global scale and empower interdisciplinary research to tackle key questions related to Earth’s environment and climate change.
文摘Through study on articles of fMRI and acupuncture-moxibustion of the recent 10 years, application of fMRI on specificity studies of meridians and acupoints such as comparison of single acupoint, point group, various manipulations, essence of needling sensation and indications of acupuncture, etc. were summarized. And it is held that the future study should be focused on the entire meridian. The principle of the relationship among meridians, the centre nerve and Zang-fu organs should be explored as well at a new level so as to promote the further studies on essence of meridian.
