Methods According to the inclusion criteria, 32 patients, selected from Guoyitang, affiliated Zhongshan Hospital Yanwu Branch of Xiamen University from May to October, 2016, were diagnosed with insomnia and included in this study. All the patients were treated by adopting the excitement transfer therapy, i.e. cluster needling was carried out at the acupoints of wrist and ankle in the manner of penetration needling, and combined with sliding- cupping at governor vessel and bladder meridian on the back. All the subjects were treated for 3 times per week, and treatment for 6 times was considered as I course of treatment. The curative effect was observed after treatment for 2 courses, and follow-up visit was performed for two months after treatment. Efficacy evaluation criteria were established by reference to Guidelines of Clinical Research on Chinese New Herbal Medicine (Trial) Results Cured: 11 cases (34%4 markedly effective: 16 cases (50%), effective: 4 cases (13%4 ineffective: 1 case. The total effective rate was up to 97%. There was no relapse during two months after the treatment. Conclusion The efficacy of excitement transfer therapy for insomnia was significant, which was worthy of clinical promotion and application.展开更多

Methods Seventy-six cases were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, 38 cases in each one. In observation group, abdominal acupuncture was applied to Yinqi Guiyuan Xue [引气归元穴: conduct qi back to the origin, Zhōngwǎn (中 脘 CV 12), Xiàwǎn (下脘 CV 10), Qìhǎi (气海 CV 6), Guānyuán (关元 CV 4)], combined with three-route relaxation therapy. In control group, according to syndrome differentiation, modified Guipi Decoction (归脾汤), Anshen Dingzhi Pill (安神定智丸) plus Suanzaoren Decoction (酸枣仁汤), Huanglian Ejiao Decoction (黄连阿胶汤), Longdan Xiegan Decoction (龙胆泻肝汤), Huanglian Wendan Decoction (黄 连温胆汤) were administered. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) score was compared between two groups. Results After treatment, PSQI total score and the scores of 7 factors all decreased in two groups as compared with those before treatment (all P0.05), but the improvements in PSQI total score and the scores of 7 factors in observation group were remarkable compared with those in control group (all P0.05). Conclusion Abdominal acupuncture plus three-route relaxation therapy has good clinical efficacy on insomnia, which is superior to Chinese herbal medicine.展开更多

Methods: In the present multi-central randomly controlled clinical study, 180 cases of chronic insomnia were randomly divided into the following two groups, a treatment group (90 cases) treated by the needle-rolling therapy and a control group (90 cases) treated with clonopin. The treatment course for both the two groups was 4 weeks. The therapeutic effects were evaluated based on improvement of the TCM symptoms and the Pittsburgs's sleep-quality index (PSQI). Results: After treatment, there were significant differences between the two groups in the effective rate (P<0.05), and in the total score of PSQI and in the scores of the 4 sub-items, i.e. sleep-quality, sleep-efficiency, hypnotic and daytime function (P<0.05). Although there was no significant difference between the two groups in the effective rate after a 3-month follow-up period, significant differences still existed in the 3 sub-items of sleep-efficiency, hypnotic, and daytime function of the PSQI (P<0.05). Conclusion: As compared with hypnotics of the second generation, the needle-rolling therapy may show better therapeutic effects for chronic insomnia patients.展开更多

The efficacy, sleep quality, the TCM syndromes score and the incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results: The effective rate in the observation group was higher than that in the control group, and there was statistical difference between the two group(P<0.05). After treatment, the Pittsburgh sleep quality index scale(PSQI) score, insomnia severity index(ISI) score and the TCM syndromes score in the two groups were decreased sharply(P<0.01), and those scores in the observation group were lower than that in the control group(P<0.05). There was no adverse reaction between the two groups. Conclusion: The therapy of ear points pressing with bean is effective on insomnia in Germany, which is worth further study and promotion.展开更多

This pilot study aims to test the efficacy of an extended version of CBT-I called Integrative Therapy for Insomnia (IT-I). The traditional CBT-I is complemented with exercises that are expected to enhance relearning to sleep by providing different stimuli, and access options for the retrieval and application of the acquired information, cognition, and skills. Method: The efficacy of the IT-I is measured by comparing the participants’ scores on the Insomnia Severity Index at baseline and post-treatment. In total 29 people, with a wide range of ages, participated in the 8 sessions’ treatment of one hour 45 minutes per session, in mixed groups of age, gender, and primary or comorbid insomnia. Results: Comparing the ISI baseline and post-treatment scores, results show a mean improvement of 7.2 points and a p r = −0.43. Conclusions: The integration of exercises that generate sensory-motor stimuli, and address the mirror neuron system fitting with the Mental Contrasting as a metacognitive strategy seems to facilitate re-learning to sleep in cases of primary insomnia as well as for comorbid insomnia. Further studies will be needed to arrive at more firm conclusions.展开更多
