Since the earliest historical phases of this research field, scholars have been debating whether it can be considered as a new academic discipline and whether it is revolutionary in nature. About 20 years ago, the early denotation of ‘humanities computing’ evolved to the present label of DH, and deep changes occurred in digital information technologies, as well as in their humanities applications. Meanwhile, dedicated academic curricula were launched, thus adding an argument in favor of the debated disciplinarity of DH. This paper gives an account of the relevant scholarly debate, distinguishing between the early period and the most recent years;it then tries to frame this process in a model of scientific revolution.展开更多

The analysis of the probability density function of the membership coefficient allows to assess the distribution of publication styles within and between disciplines.Findings: As an illustration we analyze 1,828 productive authors affiliated in Flanders, Belgium. Whereas a hard partitioning previously identified two broad publication styles, an international one vs. a domestic one, fuzzy analysis now shows gradual differences among authors. Internal diversity also varies across disciplines and can be explained by researchers’ specialization and dissemination strategies.Research limitations: The dataset used is limited to one country for the years 2000–2011; a cognitive classification of authors may yield a different result from the affiliation-based classification used here.Practical implications: Our method is applicable to other bibliometric and research evaluation contexts, especially for the social sciences and humanities in non-Anglophone countries.Originality/value: The method proposed is a novel application of cluster analysis to the field of bibliometrics. Applied to publication patterns at the author level in the social sciences and humanities, for the first time it systematically documents intra-disciplinary diversity.展开更多

The organization and funding of science and scholarship in Europe has been promoting anything else but social sciences research, including educational areas. The author will follow the recent call from the Board of Trustees da Academia Europaea to redirect policies toward the organization of multidisciplinary research projects. Among these so-called "small subjects", we will find original, inspired, and valuable research projects in the humanities, It is worth mentioning that the crisis that has been diminishing this type of scholarship strangely cohabits with several policies promoted by the European Commission and the Council of Europe to develop programs for plurilingual education and linguistic diversity, new framework strategies for multilingualism, and the use of new technologies for language teaching and learning. A strong emphasis on research projects leading to interdisciplinary studies involving literature and pure sciences, plus the development of outreach research projects will be proposed.展开更多

First is connected with crisis of humanities, second with stepping of arts into the new spheres. Based on the thought of Marshall McLuhan, Giambatistta Vico and Rudolf Arnheim we will display that this contradiction is only apparent. After Marshall McLuhan we acknowledge the power of media to change the pattems of cognition and after RudolfArnheim we acknowledge the intimate relation between senses and mind. On such foundation we will see that crisis of humanities is connected with incorrect understanding relation between mind and senses. As Rudolf Arnheim remarks strict division between senses and mind favors downgrading social role of art and humanities--such division refuses art and humanities right to take a part in cognition. But in the age of electronic/digital culture, which is recovering the simultaneous of the verbi-voco-visual communication, new proportion between our senses is appearing. It must entail new approach to art and humanities.展开更多

This research article deals with analysis of evaluation data collected regarding humanities course from a College of Commerce & Economics, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, on Likert type items. Appropriateness of one parametric measure and three non-parametric measures are discussed and used in this regard which could provide useful clues for educational policy planners. Keeping in view of the analytical results using these four measures, regardless of the threshold regarding satisfaction among students, overall performance of almost every subject has been un-satisfactory. There is a need to make a focused approach to take every course at the level of high performance. The inconsistency noticed under every threshold further revealed that under such poorly performing subjects globally, one needs to analyze merely at the global level item. Once the global level analysis reveals high performance of a course, then only item specific analysis may need to be focused to find out the items requiring further improvements.展开更多

Based on the thoughts of Karl Marx's Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844, this paper intends to discuss the essence and significances of the modernity problem in contemporary society. And then, it analyzes "how to think about the future" in the era of aesthetic capitalism or cultural economy. In the last part of the paper, several characteristics of the new humanities are studied from the perspective of contemporary aesthetics.展开更多

文摘Medical education is an important cornerstone for the development of healthcare, and medical humanities education,as an integral part of medical education, plays an irreplaceable role in cultivating people’s health guardians with high medical ethics. We adopted the method of stratified random sampling to select 309 students and 107 faculty members from three independent medical colleges in Sichuan province as the research subjects and distributed questionnaire surveys investigating in three dimensions:overall cognition of medical humanities, evaluation of medical humanistic qualities, and the current situation of medical humanities education, supplemented by an in-depth literature review and interviews with subject matter experts. We found that“tech-centrism”still has a great influence, the self-evaluation of medical students’humanistic quality is generally not high, the educational concept of“emphasizing professional skills over morality”of faculty and staff is still quite prevalent, and there is still the“last mile”phenomenon in medical humanities education. In order to promote the integrated development of“new medicine”and“new liberal arts”and break the barriers of“tech-centrism”and“instrumental rationality,”it is necessary to change the educational concept and strengthen the education of all employees, break through the bottleneck of internships and strengthen the whole process of education, integrate educational resources and strengthen all-round education, improve the incentive mechanisms, strengthen the assessment methods, and provide Chinese wisdom and Chinese solutions for the development of medical humanities education.
文摘Following the author's own experiencing in supervising Ph.D. theses in literature, languages, linguistics, and teacher education, the author will focus on new trends of advanced research projects that have been contributing to reinforce the importance of research in these areas in a time of crisis in the humanities. A strong emphasis on research projects leading to interdisciplinary studies involving literature and pure sciences, plus the development of outreach research projects will be proposed.
文摘The today culture seems to be tom by two contradicted phenomena. It must entail new approach to art and humanities.
文摘To improve high quality and/or retain achieved high quality of an academic program, time to time evaluation for quality of each covered course is often an integrated aspect considered in reputed institutions, however, there has been little effort regarding humanities courses. Once the global level analysis reveals high performance of a course, then only item specific analysis may need to be focused to find out the items requiring further improvements.

文摘In the era of cultural economy or aesthetic capitalism, the relationship between humanities and science has undergone great changes that include four aspects: (1) the humanities are compatible with and dependent on science rather than antagonism and conflict; (2) the content and form of humanities have so greatly changed that the new humanities discipline has appeared; (3) in contemporary scientific and cultural development pattern, new humanities have gradually become the principal discipline; (4) aesthetics and art gradually highlight its importance. In the last part of the paper, several characteristics of the new humanities are studied from the perspective of contemporary aesthetics.
文摘In this paper, we conduct research on the literary reading and teaching form under the perspective of medical humanitiespermeation. The complex of human nature is that it not only has natural property, including social and general spiritual attribute. Therefore, medical humanities connotation fi rstly embodies in the fear of life, love life and maintains the inherent in the human life and health. Literaryclassics is naturally formed in the process of human civilization and social development, it is carrying the human understanding of nature andsociety in history. This paper integrates the principles of the related issues to propose the new idea of the issue that will be the core meaning ofthe research.
文摘The present paper takes the English translation of the introduction of Xianda College of Economics and Humanities,SISU as an example to explore the translation problems of proper nouns and differences in English and Chinese language expressions in the construction of English introductions in Chinese institutions of higher education with the intention to propose corresponding solutions. It is hoped that this paper will provide some tips for the English translation of international publicity materials for other institutions of higher education.
文摘The move identification of the present study followed the four-move model of V.K.Bhatia who is the representative personage of ESP.It is composed of four moves(1993):Introducing purpose,Describing methodology,Summarizing results and Presenting conclusions.According to the above theory,Principles of the scientific method of sampling suggested by Nwogu(1997:121)as to the selection of journal were adopted in the study—representativity, reputation, accessibility. The focus is the analysis of move structures of abstract sections of them and contrastive studies between Economics and Humanities&Social Sciences of Lanzhou Jiaotong University in different moves of abstract sections. We find there are some similarities and differences between them.In general, the abstracts of Humanities&Social Sciences are more standard than Economics, which suggested English abstract sections of some Economics bachelor’s degree thesis need to be improved.
