This paper focuses on Malaysian Muslims perspective towards food safety,environment and animal welfare aspects of Halal principles in manufactured foods.Cross-sectional consumer data were collected through a survey.On...This paper focuses on Malaysian Muslims perspective towards food safety,environment and animal welfare aspects of Halal principles in manufactured foods.Cross-sectional consumer data were collected through a survey.One thousand seven hundreds and sixteen(1,716)Muslim respondents all over Peninsular Malaysia were interviewed randomly via structured questionnaire in 2009 to address the issues on Muslim consumers'understanding and perspective of Halal principles and its relation to food safety,environmentally friendly and animal welfare.Descriptive and Chi-square analysis were used to analyze the data collected.The findings revealed that majority of respondent relate Halal principles to food safety because Halal principle not only about slaughtering of animals but must also be Tyoibah or clean.The consumers from East of Peninsular Malaysia,with higher level religiosity and education level are more likely to understand the true meaning of Halal principles,Measuring the extent of consumers'understanding of Halal principles is vital,since Halal does not only focus on the Islamic processing but also sustainable concept of hygiene,sanitation and safety.展开更多
Despite the current controversy,red meat remains essential to the proper functioning of our body.Among the trend meat products available for consumers,halal meat is becoming an interesting choice,independently of thei...Despite the current controversy,red meat remains essential to the proper functioning of our body.Among the trend meat products available for consumers,halal meat is becoming an interesting choice,independently of their religious beliefs.However,little is known about its nutritional content and possible health effects.For this reason,a comparative analysis of the physical-chemical and nutritional properties between halal and non-halal meats(beef and lamb)was conducted.Additionally,a pilot study was performed by University of Extremadura analysing the impact of its consumption on body composition,gut microbiota,biomarkers,and antioxidant status.The healthier lipid profile founded in halal meat may have had a positive impact on the weight,muscle mass,body fat and antioxidant status of the participants,without altering the gut microbiota and levels of biomarkers such as glucose,insulin,or iron.Scientific research can help meat consumers to choose healthier and more eco-friendly products.展开更多
Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)was introduced to Malaysia in the 18th century by Chinese migrants and has since become a recognized part of the country’s pluralistic healthcare system.In line with government effort...Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)was introduced to Malaysia in the 18th century by Chinese migrants and has since become a recognized part of the country’s pluralistic healthcare system.In line with government efforts to formalize TCM practice,initiatives such as the establishment of the Traditional and Complementary Medicine(T&CM)Division in 2004 and the gazettement of the T&CM Act 2016 have been implemented.However,TCM remains underutilized among the Malay population,primarily due to cultural,religious,and linguistic factors.This paper explored the knowledge,attitudes,and behavior patterns regarding TCM of Malay people who visited the Urban Transformation Centre(UTC)in Shah Alam between October 2023 and January 2024.A cross-sectional survey was conducted at UTC Shah Alam in Selangor,Malaysia,using stratified sampling.A validated questionnaire was used to assess demographic information,knowledge,attitudes,and behavior patterns related to TCM.Among the respondents,both attitude and behavior pattern scores were generally positive.Financial status was identified as a significant factor influencing both attitudes and behavior patterns.Halal certification was identified as a key factor affecting the acceptance of Chinese herbal medicine.The findings suggest that possible pathways to broaden engagement would include increased availability of halal-certified TCM products,and clearer regulatory guidelines.Collaborative efforts that respect and incorporate local traditional practices,alongside support for localized TCM education,may contribute to greater inclusion.This localized model not only addresses specific community health challenges,but also offers perspectives into the potential role of traditional medicine in the global health landscape through cultural exchange and mutual learning.展开更多
