From the perspective of cultural geography, the culture of traditional folk houses' door ornament was studied by using the theory of cultural landscape. Based on the field investigation of remaining folk houses in central part of Shanxi, the Huizhou area and southwestern of China, this paper explores the geographical features of traditional folk houses' door ornament and analyzes the cultural landscape with dynamic characteristics of the door ornament. In recent years,the"mania for school district houses"has disrupted the housing market and undermined education equity and class mobility,thus becoming a common concern.Most existing research focus on market ...In recent years,the"mania for school district houses"has disrupted the housing market and undermined education equity and class mobility,thus becoming a common concern.Most existing research focus on market motivations for purchasing school district houses while neglecting the connections between school district houses and cultural and social elements in the process of class reproduction.To make up for this deficiency this article introduces the neighborhood-based cultural capital theory to explore the diversified motivations,the processes of motivation formation,and the determining factors in purchasing school district houses.Reviews and analysis of interview materials revealed that while theories based on western experience can explain the basic purchasing motivations and their formation processes,there are distinct and varied purchasing motivations in China,more comprehensive and complex forms of capital exchange,and more dynamic factors that impact purchases of school district houses.Suggestions on solving the"mania for school district houses"are also presented.展开更多
The House Martin(Delichon urbicum)is a common farmland bird species in the European landscape,yet its population numbers are currently in decline.However,it is not yet sufficiently explained why this long-term decline...The House Martin(Delichon urbicum)is a common farmland bird species in the European landscape,yet its population numbers are currently in decline.However,it is not yet sufficiently explained why this long-term decline occurs.To fill this gap in our knowledge,we investigated how land cover composition affects the abundance of House Martins on the landscape scale by using nationwide citizen science data.Utilizing a generalised linear mixed-effect model(GLMM),we evaluated 12,094 records from the Czech Republic spanning 2009-2017.Our analysis underscores the significance of land cover type in shaping House Martin abundance.More specifically,our results indicate that within agricultural land covers“naturally managed arable lands”exhibited significant positive effect,while forests,orchards,and vineyards were deemed less favourable for House Martin populations.Within urban land covers,we found a clear distinction in the impact on House Martin populations,with a positive effect observed in urban infrastructure,development areas,and post-industrial sites(i.e.,UrbanAreas),while an indifferent impact was noted within urban green spaces and landscaped areas(i.e.,GreenUrban).Notably,our findings suggest that the simple spatial,age,and species structure typical of forests in Europe,and similarly,the uniform structure of parks and gardens,may be responsible for the decline in the abundance of the House Martin.We advocate for the preservation or enhancement of urban greenery,expansion of natural vegetation in rural areas and adoption of ecological management practices in orchards and vineyards to mitigate further declines in House Martin populations.展开更多

The notorious Salem Witch Trials of Hawthorne＇s family has a great effect on Hawthorne＇s formation of his views about the good and evil, the sin and penalty, and the psychological descriptive style in his works. In The House of the Seven Gables, Hawthorne takes this family history as the original writing background. Through exploring modem people＇s spiritual essence, using history as narrative original, Hawthorne＇s theme illustrates the past＇s influence on the present. Chengdu teahouses,as core public spaces in marketplace society,have undergone transformative reconstruction-from“containers of everyday life”to“containers of commercial traffic and digital flows”-during the proces...Chengdu teahouses,as core public spaces in marketplace society,have undergone transformative reconstruction-from“containers of everyday life”to“containers of commercial traffic and digital flows”-during the process of modernization.Employing spatial archaeology as a methodology,combined with fieldwork and analysis of historical documents,this study systematically examines the diachronic evolution of architectural forms,functional orientations,and social networks within Chengdu teahouses.The study reveals the logic of spatial reconstruction under the interplay of multiple forces,including cultural heritage preservation,capital-driven development,and technological intervention.The findings identify three paradigms of spatial transformation in teahouses.First,heritage specimenization,which reinforces the continuity of collective memory through symbolic extraction but risks diminishing the vitality of everyday social interactions.Second,consumption upgrading,which caters to the demands of emerging groups through iterative business models yet necessitates vigilance against spatial differentiation eroding marketplace inclusivity.Third,digital parasitism,which expands communicative dimensions through technological empowerment but confronts the risk of flattening localized knowledge.These paradigms reflect both adaptive responses of traditional spaces to contemporary pressure and the tension of reconstruction imposed by instrumental rationality on marketplace networks.The study demonstrates that spatial transformation in Chengdu teahouses is not unidirectional alienation but rather a multifaceted configuration where the continuity of tradition coexists with innovative practices amid functional diversification.This research advocates for striking a balance between the preservation of traditional spaces and modern renewal and explores organic integration approaches for traditional and modern elements,thereby providing a theoretical framework and practical insights for the transformation of traditional public spaces.展开更多

文摘Chengdu teahouses,as core public spaces in marketplace society,have undergone transformative reconstruction-from“containers of everyday life”to“containers of commercial traffic and digital flows”-during the process of modernization.Employing spatial archaeology as a methodology,combined with fieldwork and analysis of historical documents,this study systematically examines the diachronic evolution of architectural forms,functional orientations,and social networks within Chengdu teahouses.The study reveals the logic of spatial reconstruction under the interplay of multiple forces,including cultural heritage preservation,capital-driven development,and technological intervention.The findings identify three paradigms of spatial transformation in teahouses.First,heritage specimenization,which reinforces the continuity of collective memory through symbolic extraction but risks diminishing the vitality of everyday social interactions.Second,consumption upgrading,which caters to the demands of emerging groups through iterative business models yet necessitates vigilance against spatial differentiation eroding marketplace inclusivity.Third,digital parasitism,which expands communicative dimensions through technological empowerment but confronts the risk of flattening localized knowledge.These paradigms reflect both adaptive responses of traditional spaces to contemporary pressure and the tension of reconstruction imposed by instrumental rationality on marketplace networks.The study demonstrates that spatial transformation in Chengdu teahouses is not unidirectional alienation but rather a multifaceted configuration where the continuity of tradition coexists with innovative practices amid functional diversification.This research advocates for striking a balance between the preservation of traditional spaces and modern renewal and explores organic integration approaches for traditional and modern elements,thereby providing a theoretical framework and practical insights for the transformation of traditional public spaces.
