This paper expands Prasenjit Duara’s proposal that Asian religions and philosophies offer hope for a sustainable future.After outlining Duara’s sociology of history that describes the crisis of global modernity in t...This paper expands Prasenjit Duara’s proposal that Asian religions and philosophies offer hope for a sustainable future.After outlining Duara’s sociology of history that describes the crisis of global modernity in terms of three global changes,namely the rise of non-western nations,the crisis of climate change,and the decline of religious or transcendent sources of authority,Duara proposes that grassroots organizations coupled with Asian religious and philosophical beliefs and practices offer different ways of understanding the relationship between the person and the environment,and between our universal-planetary interests and our national interests.Drawing from Asian and Pacific indigenous teachings,I propose a type of depth ecology called“existential parity”that all things and creatures have value,generating a moral corollary called the“existential commitment”that humans take responsibility for the environment and each other.The existential commitment offers an environmental ethics that promotes sustainable agriculture to feed the world’s population.Pacific agroforestry practices can be implemented in urban settings to help mitigate climate change and food shortages.展开更多

Driven by rapid global population growth and evolving consumer demands for high-quality nutrition and enhanced sensory enjoyment,the food industry is advancing towards healthier,more efficient,more sustainable,and mor...Driven by rapid global population growth and evolving consumer demands for high-quality nutrition and enhanced sensory enjoyment,the food industry is advancing towards healthier,more efficient,more sustainable,and more personalized targets.Notably,this transformation is being accelerated by the convergence of advanced biotechnology(BT)and information technology(IT)in food production systems.This review examines pivotal technologies shaping future food systems,highlighting two biotechnological frontiers and two artificial intelligence-driven domains.Specifically,evolutionary engineering enhances microbial resilience and production efficiency while synthetic biology expands the diversity of food sources and enables personalized food ingredient design,both of which advance sustainable food production.Meanwhile,artificial intelligence promotes food flavor innovation by integrating existing knowledge in molecular structure,flavoromics and consumer preferences.Furthermore,insights into gut microbiota,along with the development of omics techniques and wearable biosensors are unlocking attainable solutions for precision nutrition.Collectively,the trilateral convergence of BT,IT and food technology,embodying a harmonious balance,is reshaping the paradigm of future food manufacturing.展开更多

Objectives:Non-suicidal self-injury(NSSI)represents a prominent and escalating concern within mental health,associated with considerable psychological and physical dangers.Peer victimization is identified as a signifi...Objectives:Non-suicidal self-injury(NSSI)represents a prominent and escalating concern within mental health,associated with considerable psychological and physical dangers.Peer victimization is identified as a significant predictor of NSSI behavior.Although prior research has explored the association between peer victimization and NSSI,the mechanisms underlying this relationship remain insufficiently understood.Utilizing social information processing theory frameworks,the present study seeks to examine the sequential mediating roles of a cognitive factor,future orientation,and a behavioral factor,social withdrawal,in middle school students.Methods:A cross-sectional survey was administered in China,involving 528 participants(261 females and 267 males;Meanage=13.71,standard deviation[SD]=0.93).Participants completed self-report measures assessing peer victimization via the Delaware Bullying Victimization Scale-Student Version,NSSI via the Adolescents Self-Harm Scale,future orientation via the Adolescent Future Orientation Questionnaire,and social withdrawal via the Social Withdrawal Questionnaire.Results:Findings indicated a significant positive correlation between peer victimization and NSSI(r=0.30,p<0.01).Additionally,future orientation and social withdrawal functioned as serial mediators,with an indirect effect of 0.01(95%CI:[0.01,0.02]),representing 2.70%of the total effect(𝛽=0.37,95%CI:[0.25,0.47]).Conclusions:The findings endorse a theoretical framework in which negative future outlook and social withdrawal are sequentially linked within the relationship between peer victimization and NSSI.Although the serial indirect effect observed is modest,it delineates a distinct associative pattern that characterizes adolescents subjected to victimization.These results carry practical significance for school-based intervention programs,indicating that targeting future perspectives and social connections may enhance strategies for preventing NSSI.展开更多

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is a pressing global health problem and is the sixth most common cancer and the third leading cause of cancer mortality worldwide.Despite continuous advances in treatment modalities,the 5-...Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is a pressing global health problem and is the sixth most common cancer and the third leading cause of cancer mortality worldwide.Despite continuous advances in treatment modalities,the 5-year survival rate is low with a high propensity for recurrence and metastasis1.This clinical challenge in treating HCC is largely attributed to the heterogeneity and intrinsic therapy resistance of cancer stem cells(CSCs),which are a subpopulation of cells with self-renewal capability and multidirectional differentiation potential to induce tumorigenicity2.The behavior and maintenance of CSCs are not autonomous but critically dependent on the complex bidirectional crosstalk between CSCs and the tumor immune microenvironment(TIME)1.In this review we first summarize the recent progress in characterizing CSCs and the interactions between CSCs and the TIME in HCC.Next,we discuss the emerging therapeutic strategies targeting CSC populations with the ongoing challenges.Finally,we give our perspectives on the future directions in HCC CSC research.展开更多

文摘Building a community with a shared future and promoting harmony in the region serve as both the guiding principles and shared aspirations of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization(SCO).Since the 13th Meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State in 2013,the concept of a community with a shared future for humanity has gradually been integrated into the SCO’s development agenda.Under this guiding vision,China has taken the initiative to propose the idea of an SCO community with a shared future,offering a new approach to addressing regional governance challenges.
