This paper presents form finding and collapse analysis of cable net structure under strong wind using the finite particle method(FPM).As a kind of particle method,the theoretical fundamentals of the FPM are given.Meth...This paper presents form finding and collapse analysis of cable net structure under strong wind using the finite particle method(FPM).As a kind of particle method,the theoretical fundamentals of the FPM are given.Methods to handle geometric and material nonlinearities of cable element are proposed.The fracture criterion and model for cable element are built to simulate the failure of cable nets.The form-finding and load analysis of two cable nets are then performed in order to initialize the successive of nonlinear analysis.The failure progress of cable nets under dynamic loads is simulated,and the dynamic responses of the typical fracture element are given in details.Analyses of the energy variations during the collapse process also show the failure mechanisms of cable nets,which is useful for the structure collapse resistance design.The numerical applications highlight the capability of the proposed procedure to solve complicate collapse problems with the FPM.展开更多

Research question, objectives and assumptions were made to facil...In this secondary research, published works on effect of climate change on water resources in other countries and in Australia were reviewed critically. Research question, objectives and assumptions were made to facilitate this study. First, methods used for such studies and their results at global level were reviewed. Then Australian specific methods of study and findings were reviewed. More commonly, both globally and in Australia, simulations using long-term real data on selected climatic scenarios of global climatic models are projected for long-term future trends. The validity and certainty of predicted occurrences depend upon the closeness of real time data with scenarios to which they are projected. Even with these limitations, projections of already rising temperatures and declining rainfall on surface water and ground water availabilities show gradual decline in water availability leading to water stress both for human communities and ecosystems The role of human-induced emissions in hastening the degradation process has also been investigated. Conserving all available water, practising efficient water consumption and prudent water policies only can provide some relief from what is inevitable.展开更多

The methodology is based on Ostrowski’s method and further developed by using cubic interpolation process. The adaptation of this strategy increases the order of Ostrowski’s method from four to eight and its efficiency index from 1.587 to 1.682. The methods are compared with closest competitors in a series of numerical examples. Moreover, theoretical order of convergence is verified on the examples.展开更多

Khan, (2012) New Iterative Methods for Solving Nonlinear Equation by Using Homotopy Perturbation Method, Applied Mathematics and Computation, 219, 3565-3574], suggested a fourth-order method for solving nonlinear equations. Per iteration in this method requires two evaluations of the function and two of its first derivatives;therefore, the efficiency index is 1.41421 as Newton’s method. In this paper, we modified this method and obtained a family of iterative methods for appropriate and suitable choice of the parameter. It should be noted that per iteration for the new methods requires two evaluations of the function and one evaluation of its first derivatives, so its efficiency index equals to 1.5874. Analysis of convergence shows that the methods are fourth-order. Several numerical examples are given to illustrate the performance of the presented methods.展开更多
