The study of synonyms based on corpus has become a hot topic in recent years,and the task of differentiating synonyms has always been a complex issue.The current study made an attempt to investigate the differences am...The study of synonyms based on corpus has become a hot topic in recent years,and the task of differentiating synonyms has always been a complex issue.The current study made an attempt to investigate the differences among English noun synonyms“opposition”,“resistance”and“defiance”from the perspective of frequency distribution,collocation and semantic prosody based on COCA.This research shows that in terms of frequency distribution,“opposition”and“resistance”are more frequently used than“defiance”.Both of the two are most commonly used in academic journals while“defiance”is most frequently used in fiction.All of these three words rarely appear in TV and movie subtitles.Second,from the perspective of collocation,“opposition”often collocates with words about politics and personal state,“resistance”usually appears with words concerning politics and medicine,and“defiance”mainly shows up in the fields of military,medicine,personal state and others.Third,from the dimension of semantic prosody,“opposition”presents negative semantic prosody,“resistance”has neutral semantic prosody,and“defiance”indicates mixed semantic prosody.The present study is able to enrich the relevant study on synonym differentiation,and highlight the importance of understanding the subtle differences among synonyms.展开更多

To address the underutilization of Chinese research materials in nonferrous metals,a method for constructing a domain of nonferrous metals knowledge graph(DNMKG)was established.Starting from a domain thesaurus,entitie...To address the underutilization of Chinese research materials in nonferrous metals,a method for constructing a domain of nonferrous metals knowledge graph(DNMKG)was established.Starting from a domain thesaurus,entities and relationships were mapped as resource description framework(RDF)triples to form the graph’s framework.Properties and related entities were extracted from open knowledge bases,enriching the graph.A large-scale,multi-source heterogeneous corpus of over 1×10^(9) words was compiled from recent literature to further expand DNMKG.Using the knowledge graph as prior knowledge,natural language processing techniques were applied to the corpus,generating word vectors.A novel entity evaluation algorithm was used to identify and extract real domain entities,which were added to DNMKG.A prototype system was developed to visualize the knowledge graph and support human−computer interaction.Results demonstrate that DNMKG can enhance knowledge discovery and improve research efficiency in the nonferrous metals field.展开更多

Aim: To establish an objective, easy-to-use and comprehensive method to analyze corpus cavernosum electromyo- graphic signals (CC-potentials). Methods: CC-potentials were recorded during flaccidity in 23 young hea...Aim: To establish an objective, easy-to-use and comprehensive method to analyze corpus cavernosum electromyo- graphic signals (CC-potentials). Methods: CC-potentials were recorded during flaccidity in 23 young healthy volunteers, with surface electrodes placed on the penile shaft bilaterally. Based on the correlation function of Matlab software, an application program for the analysis of CC-potentials was developed. Individual CC-potentials and their autocorrelation function were evaluated, yielding parameters amplitude (A), duration (D), and dominant frequency (DF). The crosscorrelation function of both longitudinal and bilateral pairs of adjacent electrodes was calculated to assess the similar- ity and mutual delay of CC-potentials recorded simultaneously from different parts of the CC. The parameters derived were squared maximum cross-correlation coefficient (Rmax) and delay (τ). Based on the absolute value of τ and the corresponding inter-electrode distance, propagation velocity (PV) was calculated. Results. The values of the parameters were determined automatically. No significant difference related to the locations of the electrodes for parameters A, D, and DF was detected. The cross-correlation showed that both longitudinal and bilateral CC-potential pairs had highly similar waveforms (the absolute values of Rmax were 0.80 ± 0.05 and 0.87 ± 0.06, respectively). PV of longitudinal pairs was estimated as 6.15 ± 3.98 cm/s. Conclusion: The application program for correlation analysis of CC-potentials is a comprehensive and versatile method to analyze corpus cavernosum electromyographic recordings. However, despite several previous studies with foci on the social and cultural characteristics of swearwords, a large part of it remains to be investigated. With the abundant spoken language resources from British National Corpus(BNC), this article observes the pragmatic and collocational features of swearwords. Three social variables, namely, social class, speech domain, and gender were put under investigation to see how the use of swearwords varies with different speech social contexts. Meanwhile, the noun and adjective collocates of several frequent swearwords were separately sorted out and discussed. Recently, the findings of corpus linguistics ...The gap between the theories of second language acquisition and their practice in materials development has been a controversial issue in the field of applied linguistics. Recently, the findings of corpus linguistics have narrowed the gap. However, their practice, especially in the realm of vocabulary acquisition, has encountered pedagogic problems in the classroom because the authentic nature of the words in corpus-based examples was beyond the level of learners' comprehension which paves the way for the practice of pedagogic corpus linguistics. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to practice pedagogic corpus linguistics, and mainly data-driven learning, with the first year secondary school English language learners in Iran in terms of their vocabulary acquisition. To do so, 28 students participated in the study. Examples from the British National Corpus for the main words of each unit of their course book, Prospect 1, were presented to them in a course of 16 sessions. Those which were beyond their understanding were eliminated and those comprehensible for them, the pedagogic ones, were selected based on their reports regarding the comprehensibility of each corpus-based example.展开更多
Shlesinger (1998) first proposed that corpus-based interpreting studies(CIS) should be regarded as an offshoot of corpus-based translation studies (CTS).In China, owing to the development and compilation of interpreti...Shlesinger (1998) first proposed that corpus-based interpreting studies(CIS) should be regarded as an offshoot of corpus-based translation studies (CTS).In China, owing to the development and compilation of interpreting corpora, CIShas gained momentum since 2007. To review the past achievements in this regard,the present paper first summarizes four readily compiled interpreting corpora. Then,based on the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CKNI), it conducts thestatistics mainly on relevant published papers in Chinese Social Science and Index(CSSCI) journals. Next, it pinpoints a bibliometric analysis on the data by taking intoaccount three parameters, namely, H index, reference citation and their distribution.Then, it makes a detailed review and comments on the background of CIS and itsparadigm, theoretical interpretation of CIS and the research areas of CIS, standardsof developing interpreting corpora and solutions to difficulties in compilation ofinterpreting corpora, research orientations including topics and objects. At present,although CIS have attained preliminary findings and conclusions, it has mainly reliedon the theoretical and analytical frameworks of Systemic Functional Grammar andits utility in CIS, given the fact that it has introduced few interdisciplinary studies.As a result, CIS do not take full advantage of the paradigm of corpus linguistics norexplore into such research topics as features of interpretation, interpreters’ identitiesand interpreting styles. The main findings are: 1)Chinese college English learners under-use copular verbs; 2) Chinese college English learners select a limited variety of copular verbs; 3) Types of complement after most copular verbs used by Chinese college English learners lack variety; 4) Chinese college English learners use less various and more simpler complements than native speakers.
文摘Adopting the corpus-based approach, this paper analyzes the adjective/noun collocation with two English words big and large as examples by comparing data from Chinese Learner English Corpus (CLEC) and those from native speaker corpora British National Corpus (BNC). It is observed that collocates chosen by Chinese students differ greatly from those chosen by native speakers, on the basis of which this paper compares and illustrates the differences of these words and aims to highlight the important role of the corpus-based collocational research in English vocabulary teaching.
文摘The software Wordsmith has been commonly used in corpus linguistics.In this paper,the author used the tool of Concord in Wordsmith to analyze various errors made by a student.Five passages made by the students are used.After annotating on the errors,the author uses Concord to sort out each error maker and made classification chart of the errors.All the errors are classified into two categories:errors caused by carelessness and by language ability.After analyzing,there are mainly three kinds of errors and in the first category and five kinds of errors in the second category.
文摘Authentic and objective material with regard to a certain language is the bare necessity and premise of any kind of linguistic research and then on the basis of the data, corpus-based approach, which is also addressed as a performance-based approach, has been involved in almost every corner of linguistics. Thus far, it is hardly surprising that some typical Corpora are essential for contemporary Chinese EFL's study. WECCL 2.0, as a representative of interlanguage corpus, is introduced in this paper.
