We assessed the effect of activities of mechanics in auto-mobile workshops on the quality of groundwater sources. Water samples were collected from hand dug wells situated within 0 to 50 metres in twenty auto-mobile workshops randomly selected across three zones. A residential area was selected as the control site. Analysis of water for some physico-chemical parameters (pH, TDS, Electrical Conductivity, Alkalinity, Oil and Grease) and the heavy metals (Cu, Cd, Cr, and Pb) was done using standard methods. Sanitary inspection was also carried out at each well location. Results were compared with the control and regulatory standards Nigerian Industrial Standard for Drinking Water Quality (NISDQW) and World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines for drinking water quality. Results revealed that mean values of pH, TDS and Electrical conductivity for the three zones, Alphonso, Temidire, and Ojoo were within WHO limits. The concentrations of Cu, Cd Cr and Pb in the water samples ranged from 0.02 - 6.12 mg/l, 0.1 - 2.19 mg/l, 0.2 - 0.79 mg/l and 0.02 - 35.8 mg/l across the three zones respectively. Mean concentrations of Cu (mg/l) were significantly higher in Alphonso (2.5 ± 2.06) than in other zones. Mean concentration of Cr (mg/l) was 0.34 ± 0.28, 0.37 ± 0.13 and 0.31 ± 0.3 for Alphonso, Temidire and Ojoo respectively. Cadmium was also present in all the zones but Pb was only detected in Alphonso. The mean concentrations for heavy metals were significantly higher when compared with the permissible limits for both NISDQW and WHO. The degree of groundwater contamination indicates poor water quality in the study area, and this requires regular monitoring. Enforcement of environmental regulations guiding activities of auto-mechanics should be done so that they can embrace environmentally friendly practices to reduce pollution.展开更多

A 1.5-hour online workshop was held twice over two weeks. A total of nine nurses participated in the program. These online workshops using PNCM helped achieve the original goals and the results revealed a positive outcome of the workshops. We should devise an educational program to arouse participants’ interest and comprehension to make the most of online competency.展开更多

It identifies opportunities to remove unnecessary costs while assuring that quality, reliability, performance, and other critical factors will meet or exceed the customers’ expectations. It has been widely used in the construction industry in a number of countries. A recent survey, however, revealed several problems that hinder the wider use of this methodology in the industry. To overcome these problems, a feasibility study has been conducted to investigate whether or not a Group Support System (GSS) can support collaborative works in VM workshops. This paper introduces the development and structure of a prototype GSS which is designed to support the collaborative works of stakeholders in VM workshops. It begins with an introduction to the conceptual GSS framework and job plan, illustrating what GSS supports can be provided to VM workshops. This is followed by a detailed description of the GSS prototype system to demonstrate how these supports can be performed as an integrated computer system. The testing of the system is also discussed. The research findings provide strong evidence in supporting the notion of using GSS to improve VM implementation. The information support of GSS has been ranked to be the most useful GSS functions and most of the practitioners interviewed are highly interested in applying GSS to support VM workshops in the future.展开更多

This serves as a unique and valuable means of the public communication of science and technology and informal science education activities, with the public at the centre of the process. To achieve this, SRWs integrate action and reflection not as a dichotomy, but as a complementary relation in which sensorial interaction is not a thoughtless process and mental activity is not disembodied. In this way, SRWs create virtuous cycles of meaningful learning. However, SRW practitioners thus far have not paid enough attention to the development of a theoretical foundation to support their strategies;they remain highly dependent on empirical experience and tacit knowledge. The little attention paid to the creation of a conceptual framework represents a critical barrier for reflection, discussion and, with them, the maturation of the SRW community. This work links a characterization of the SRW, built upon empirical experiences, to a variety of learning theories to identify an essential basis for discussion on the subject. Our objective is to complement the rich empirical tradition of the SRW with analytic elements intended to encourage discussion and promote—as tends to happen in activities with the public—virtuous cycles of theory and practice.展开更多

By applying this model to medical care, nursing staff can be stimulated to think about specific nursing skills, and at the same time, nursing staff can be stimulated to continuously improve their nursing skills. Generally speaking, through the workshop mode, the person in charge can organize nursing course teaching, learning and training, vocational training, etc., so that all nursing staff can explore a specific problem together and gradually improve their comprehensive skills. This paper mainly explores the concept and characteristics of the workshop model and its actual application in static therapy and nursing, hoping to provide reference for the research of relevant scholars.展开更多

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a workshop-based model for increasing dysphagia diet awareness among prosthodontists working with head and neck cancer patients. Methods: The study had a post-intervention design and included 10 maxillofacial prosthetic educators from eight countries who participated in a 120-minute workshop focused on theoretical and practical training in nutrition support for patients with dysphagia. Sessions were held in a specialized restaurant in Tokyo and included lectures, observation of Japanese cooking techniques, hands-on preparation of dysphagia-friendly foods, and cross-cultural comparisons. Knowledge, confidence, and practical application were assessed using a post-workshop questionnaire. Descriptive statistics and thematic analysis were used to evaluate outcomes. Results: Seven of the 10 prosthodontists completed the post-intervention questionnaire. All respondents reported overall satisfaction with the workshop. Session content was regarded as easy to understand by 57.14%, appropriate by 28.57%, and easy by 14.29%. Most respondents (85.71%) were “very satisfied” with the instructors’ explanations, and 100% were “very satisfied” with the workshop’s length and structure;71.42% felt they could apply the knowledge in clinical practice, while 28.58% anticipated challenges. The respondents appreciated the workshop’s focus on dysphagia, particularly in elderly patients, and valued the insights into Japanese dysphagia diets and culture. Conclusions: Workshops on nutrition provide an interactive platform for prosthodontists to enhance their knowledge and improve comprehensive patient care, highlighting the importance for prosthodontists to stay updated on developments in nutrition, particularly in dysphagia.展开更多
