AIM:To evaluate the clinical characteristics and risk factors associated with visual prognosis in patients with open globe injuries(OGIs)treated at Vietnam National Eye Hospital.METHODS:A prospective observational stu...AIM:To evaluate the clinical characteristics and risk factors associated with visual prognosis in patients with open globe injuries(OGIs)treated at Vietnam National Eye Hospital.METHODS:A prospective observational study included patients with OGIs treated between June 2023 and June 2024.Data on demographics,injury features,and clinical findings were extracted from medical records.Poor visual outcome was defined as final best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA)worse than 20/400 or no light perception.Multivariable logistic regression was performed to identify independent risk factors.RESULTS:Among 509 patients(636 eyes),the mean age was 35.13y(range 20–51y),and 67.6%were male.After treatment,the proportion of eyes achieving≥20/40 increased from 12.6%to 42.1%,while no light perception decreased from 29.1%to 9.4%.Independent predictors of poor visual outcomes included delayed admission[>4h,odds ratio(OR)=3.33,95%confidence intervals(CI):1.76–6.33,P<0.001],Zone III injury(OR=5.90,95%CI:2.85–12.24,P<0.001),wound length>10 mm(OR=2.59,95%CI:1.60–4.18,P<0.001),relative afferent pupillary defect(RAPD,OR=1.65,95%CI:1.03–2.64,P=0.039),endophthalmitis(OR=1.75,95%CI:1.01–3.03,P=0.047),retinal detachment(OR=3.32,95%CI:2.02–5.45,P<0.001),and eyelid lacerations(OR=1.94,95%CI:1.13–3.33,P=0.016)associated with OGIs.Vitreous hemorrhage(OR=0.44,95%CI:0.22–0.89,P=0.023)was associated with better outcomes,and female gender appeared protective.CONCLUSION:Poor visual outcomes remain common after OGIs,despite improve visual acuity in many cases.Several clinical and injury-related factors are strongly associated with prognosis.Early recognition of these predictors can support risk stratification and improve trauma care in similar settings.展开更多
AIM:To study the relationships between amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations(ALFF)changes and clinical ophthalmic parameters in patients with primary open angle glaucoma(POAG)and analyze the diagnostic value of ALFF...AIM:To study the relationships between amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations(ALFF)changes and clinical ophthalmic parameters in patients with primary open angle glaucoma(POAG)and analyze the diagnostic value of ALFF.METHODS:Twenty-four POAG patients and 24 healthy controls(HCs)underwent resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging(rs-fMRI).Nonparametric rank-sum tests were used to compare the ALFF values in the slow-4 and slow-5 bands,and Spearman or Pearson correlation analysis was used to assess the correlation between ALFF changes and clinical ophthalmic parameters in POAG patients.Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves were used to evaluate the diagnostic performance of the ALFF.RESULTS:There were 16 males in POAG patients(median age 48y)and 12 males in HCs(median age 39y).Compared with HCs,POAG patients presented increased or decreased ALFF values in different brain regions,and similar changes were observed in mild POAG patients.The ALFF values were correlated with retinal nerve fiber layer(RNFL)thickness,inner limiting membrane-retinal pigment epithelium thickness changes and the degree of visual field defects.Analysis of the diagnostic value of the ALFF via ROC curves revealed that the right medial frontal gyrus[area under the curve(AUC)=0.9063]and superior frontal gyrus(AUC=0.9097)had better diagnostic value than did the optic disc area(AUC=0.8019),visual field index(VFI%,AUC=0.8988)and macular parameters.CONCLUSION:POAG patients present altered cortical function that is significantly correlated with the optic nerve and retinal thickness and had good diagnostic value,which may reflect the underlying neuropathological mechanism of POAG.展开更多

Through investigation of the settlement and the inner soil pressure on the opened bottom cylinder by model experiments, the interactions among the filler inside the cylinder, subsoil and cylinder are analyzed. The adjusting mechanism of friction resistance between the inner filler and the wall of the cylinder during overturning of the cylinder is discussed. Based on the experimental study, a method for calculating the inner soil pressure on the cylindrical structure under axisymmetric loading or non- axisymmetric (with lateral) loading is proposed in this paper. The other calculation model is based on the use stage, with the two (passive and active) zones for the soil pressure in cabins. The height of zones and the theoretical analytical solutions of inner soil pressure are derived. The analytical formulas of the models are proved using the finite element method and experimental data, and the formulas are analyzed in the inner soil pressure in the same condition. Herein,we describe the first reported case of a p...Utilizing the opened round ligament as venous grafts during liver transplantation is useful but controversial,and there are no pathological analyses of this procedure. Herein,we describe the first reported case of a pathological analysis of an opened round ligament used as a venous patch graft in a living donor liver transplantation(LDLT). A 13-year-old female patient with biliary atresia underwent LDLT using a posterior segment graft from her mother. The graft had two hepatic veins(HVs),which included the right HV(RHV; 15 mm) and the inferior RHV(IRHV; 20 mm). The graft RHV and IRHV were formed into a single orifice using the donor's opened round ligament(60 mm × 20 mm) as a patch graft during bench surgery; it was then anastomosed end-to-side with the recipient inferior vena cava. The recipient had no post-transplant complications involving the HVs,but she died of septic shock with persistent cholangitis and jaundice 86 d after LDLT. The HV anastomotic site had no stenosis or thrombus on autopsy. On pathology,there was adequate patency and continuity between the recipient's HV and the donor's opened round ligament. In addition,the stains for CD31 and CD34 on the inner membrane of the opened round ligament were positive. Hepatic venous reconstruction using the opened round ligament as a venous patch graft is effective in LDLT,as observed on pathology.展开更多
To fully leverage the advantages of mechanization and informatization in tunnel boring machine(TBM)operations,the authors aim to promote the advancement of tunnel construction technology toward intelligent development...To fully leverage the advantages of mechanization and informatization in tunnel boring machine(TBM)operations,the authors aim to promote the advancement of tunnel construction technology toward intelligent development.This involved exploring the deep integration of next-generation artificial intelligence technologies,such as sensing technology,automatic control technology,big data technology,deep learning,and machine vision,with key operational processes,including TBM excavation,direction adjustment,step changes,inverted arch block assembly,material transportation,and operation status assurance.The results of this integration are summarized as follows.(1)TBM key excavation parameter prediction algorithm was developed with an accuracy rate exceeding 90%.The TBM intelligent step-change control algorithm,based on machine vision,achieved an image segmentation accuracy rate of 95%and gripper shoe positioning error of±5 mm.(2)An automatic positioning system for inverted arch blocks was developed,enabling real-time perception of the spatial position and deviation during the assembly process.The system maintains an elevation positioning deviation within±3 mm and a horizontal positioning deviation within±10 mm,reducing the number of surveyors in each work team.(3)A TBM intelligent rail transportation system that achieves real-time human-machine positioning,automatic switch opening and closing,automatic obstacle avoidance,intelligent transportation planning,and integrated scheduling and command was designed.Each locomotive formation reduces one shunter and improves comprehensive transportation efficiency by more than 20%.(4)Intelligent analysis and prediction algorithms were developed to monitor and predict the trends of the hydraulic and gear oil parameters in real time,enhancing the proactive maintenance and system reliability.展开更多

Open caissons are widely used in foundation engineering because of their load-bearing efficiency and adaptability in diverse soil conditions.However,accurately predicting their undrained bearing capacity in layered so...Open caissons are widely used in foundation engineering because of their load-bearing efficiency and adaptability in diverse soil conditions.However,accurately predicting their undrained bearing capacity in layered soils remains a complex challenge.This study presents a novel application of five ensemble machine(ML)algorithms-random forest(RF),gradient boosting machine(GBM),extreme gradient boosting(XGBoost),adaptive boosting(AdaBoost),and categorical boosting(CatBoost)-to predict the undrained bearing capacity factor(Nc)of circular open caissons embedded in two-layered clay on the basis of results from finite element limit analysis(FELA).The input dataset consists of 1188 numerical simulations using the Tresca failure criterion,varying in geometrical and soil parameters.The FELA was performed via OptumG2 software with adaptive meshing techniques and verified against existing benchmark studies.The ML models were trained on 70% of the dataset and tested on the remaining 30%.Their performance was evaluated using six statistical metrics:coefficient of determination(R²),mean absolute error(MAE),root mean squared error(RMSE),index of scatter(IOS),RMSE-to-standard deviation ratio(RSR),and variance explained factor(VAF).The results indicate that all the models achieved high accuracy,with R²values exceeding 97.6%and RMSE values below 0.02.Among them,AdaBoost and CatBoost consistently outperformed the other methods across both the training and testing datasets,demonstrating superior generalizability and robustness.The proposed ML framework offers an efficient,accurate,and data-driven alternative to traditional methods for estimating caisson capacity in stratified soils.This approach can aid in reducing computational costs while improving reliability in the early stages of foundation design.展开更多
Purpose:For a set of 1,561 Open Access(OA)and non-OA journals in business and economics,this study evaluates the relationships between four citation metrics-five-year Impact Factor(5IF),CiteScore,Article Influence(AI)...Purpose:For a set of 1,561 Open Access(OA)and non-OA journals in business and economics,this study evaluates the relationships between four citation metrics-five-year Impact Factor(5IF),CiteScore,Article Influence(AI)score,and SCImago Journal Rank(SJR)-and the journal ratings assigned by expert reviewers.We expect that the OA journals will have especially high citation impact relative to their perceived quality(reputation).Design/methodology/approach:Regression is used to estimate the ratings assigned by expert reviewers for the 2021 CABS(Chartered Association of Business Schools)journal assessment exercise.The independent variables are the four citation metrics,evaluated separately,and a dummy variable representing the OA/non-OA status of each journal.Findings:Regardless of the citation metric used,OA journals in business and economics have especially high citation impact relative to their perceived quality(reputation).That is,they have especially low perceived quality(reputation)relative to their citation impact.Research limitations:These results are specific to the CABS journal ratings and the four citation metrics.However,there is strong evidence that CABS is closely related to several other expert ratings,and that 5IF,CiteScore,AI,and SJR are representative of the other citation metrics that might have been chosen.Practical implications:There are at least two possible explanations for these results:(1)expert evaluators are biased against OA journals,and(2)OA journals have especially high citation impact due to their increased accessibility.Although this study does not allow us to determine which of these explanations are supported,the results suggest that authors should consider publishing in OA journals whenever overall readership and citation impact are more important than journal reputation within a particular field.Moreover,the OA coefficients provide a useful indicator of the extent to which anti-OA bias(or the citation advantage of OA journals)is diminishing over time.Originality/value:This is apparently the first study to investigate the impact of OA status on the relationships between expert journal ratings and journal citation metrics.展开更多

文摘Open caissons are widely used in foundation engineering because of their load-bearing efficiency and adaptability in diverse soil conditions.However,accurately predicting their undrained bearing capacity in layered soils remains a complex challenge.This study presents a novel application of five ensemble machine(ML)algorithms-random forest(RF),gradient boosting machine(GBM),extreme gradient boosting(XGBoost),adaptive boosting(AdaBoost),and categorical boosting(CatBoost)-to predict the undrained bearing capacity factor(Nc)of circular open caissons embedded in two-layered clay on the basis of results from finite element limit analysis(FELA).The input dataset consists of 1188 numerical simulations using the Tresca failure criterion,varying in geometrical and soil parameters.The FELA was performed via OptumG2 software with adaptive meshing techniques and verified against existing benchmark studies.The ML models were trained on 70% of the dataset and tested on the remaining 30%.Their performance was evaluated using six statistical metrics:coefficient of determination(R²),mean absolute error(MAE),root mean squared error(RMSE),index of scatter(IOS),RMSE-to-standard deviation ratio(RSR),and variance explained factor(VAF).The results indicate that all the models achieved high accuracy,with R²values exceeding 97.6%and RMSE values below 0.02.Among them,AdaBoost and CatBoost consistently outperformed the other methods across both the training and testing datasets,demonstrating superior generalizability and robustness.The proposed ML framework offers an efficient,accurate,and data-driven alternative to traditional methods for estimating caisson capacity in stratified soils.This approach can aid in reducing computational costs while improving reliability in the early stages of foundation design.
文摘Purpose:For a set of 1,561 Open Access(OA)and non-OA journals in business and economics,this study evaluates the relationships between four citation metrics-five-year Impact Factor(5IF),CiteScore,Article Influence(AI)score,and SCImago Journal Rank(SJR)-and the journal ratings assigned by expert reviewers.We expect that the OA journals will have especially high citation impact relative to their perceived quality(reputation).Design/methodology/approach:Regression is used to estimate the ratings assigned by expert reviewers for the 2021 CABS(Chartered Association of Business Schools)journal assessment exercise.The independent variables are the four citation metrics,evaluated separately,and a dummy variable representing the OA/non-OA status of each journal.Findings:Regardless of the citation metric used,OA journals in business and economics have especially high citation impact relative to their perceived quality(reputation).That is,they have especially low perceived quality(reputation)relative to their citation impact.Research limitations:These results are specific to the CABS journal ratings and the four citation metrics.However,there is strong evidence that CABS is closely related to several other expert ratings,and that 5IF,CiteScore,AI,and SJR are representative of the other citation metrics that might have been chosen.Practical implications:There are at least two possible explanations for these results:(1)expert evaluators are biased against OA journals,and(2)OA journals have especially high citation impact due to their increased accessibility.Although this study does not allow us to determine which of these explanations are supported,the results suggest that authors should consider publishing in OA journals whenever overall readership and citation impact are more important than journal reputation within a particular field.Moreover,the OA coefficients provide a useful indicator of the extent to which anti-OA bias(or the citation advantage of OA journals)is diminishing over time.Originality/value:This is apparently the first study to investigate the impact of OA status on the relationships between expert journal ratings and journal citation metrics.
