We explored variations in composition, diversity, cover, and life forms of vascular plants along a complete altitudinal gradient(1300-4000 m a.s.l) in Sierra de Velasco, an arid mountain in northwestern Argentina. We evaluated the influence of environmental variables on plant diversity and cover. Field sampling was conducted in the northern sector of the Sa. de Velasco,on the western slope in eight 50 m wide altitudinal bands at 400 m elevation intervals. We used rectangular plots(20 × 4 m;n:10/altitudinal band) to register the vascular plants of all the growth forms, and linear transects(20 m long.;n:30/altitudinal band) to quantify the vegetation cover using the point intercept method. Diversity was calculated using hill numbers.Data analysis included non-metric multidimensional scaling(NMDS), indicator species analysis, generalized linear models(GLMs), and variance partitioning analysis. A total of 232 species from 51families and 158 genera were registered. Species composition showed greater similarity at intermediate elevations. Plant diversity and cover exhibited a unimodal distribution, peaking at intermediate elevations(2100-2500 m). In contrast, life forms' distribution showed divergent patterns. Therophytes and succulents predominated at low altitudes, phanerophytes and hemicryptophytes at medium altitudes, and chamaephytes and geophytes at high altitudes. The altitudinal patterns of plant diversity and cover were primarily driven by climatic factors.Conservation efforts in the Sierra de Velasco should focus on the middle and upper zones due to their high biodiversity and vulnerability to climate change.展开更多

Different dynamic behaviors are classified. The influence of remembrance of dynamic behavior of GCA is also studied. Experiments show the emergence of the self-organizing patterns that is analogous with life forms at the edge of chaos, which consist of certain nontrivial structure and go through periods of growth, maturity and death. We describe these experiments and discuss their potential as alternative way for creating artificial life and generative art, and as a new method for pattern genesis.展开更多

We used data from the National Death Cause Registration Information System and National Maternity and Children Health Surveillance databases, as well as 2010 population data from the National Bureau of Statistics. We then calculated the average life expectancy of the Chinese population, in addition to life expectancy after eliminating injury-related mortality. The average life expectancy of the Chinese population in 2010 was 74.93 years. After eliminating deaths due to injuries, the fourth leading cause of mortality in China, average life expectancy increased by 1.36 years. When this was broken down by population sub-groups, these gains were 1.76 and 0.79 years in men and women, 0.94 and 1.56 years in urban and rural residents, and 1.11, 1.30, and 1.67 years for residents in the Eastern, Central and Western regions respectively. After eliminating all categories of injury, the average life expectancy of the Chinese population was found to increase by 1.36 years. This figure was higher for males and residents of rural areas and Western China.展开更多

Data of patents issued in the field of wireless charging are retrieved from the United States Patent and Trademark Office Library. Citation information about these patents is also collected. By analyzing the temporal citation count data of patent information, the patents' life patterns using the RSD/P classification method are classified. This study found that the emergence of different life patterns of patent information has strong connection with the technological stage in which the patent information is located, and sleeping beauty patents have high hidden values. In the stage of technological development, attention should be paid to the identification of non-stationary patents. Rapid identification of high-value patents,i. e.,patents with certain life pattern,is instrumental to accelerate the development of technologies. This study provides a viable approach for identifying high-value patents of emerging technologies through empirical research.展开更多

Although symptom patterns and healthrelated quality of life(HRQOL) are common diagnostic measures for cancer patients, the association between them has not been studied. This study aimed to describe the changes in the pattern of symptoms of Yang-deficiency, Yin-deficiency, blood stasis, and HRQOL before and after chemotherapy, and to examine the association between the patterns and the cancer patients' HRQOL.METHODS: A panel study was undertaken with 123 cancer patients who were about to begin their first course of chemotherapy at four teaching hospitals in Taiwan. A structured questionnaire was used before and after chemotherapy. HRQOL was assessed using the Medical Outcomes Survey Short-Form 36. The Traditional Chinese Medical Constitutional Scale was used to measure Yang-deficiency, Yin-deficiency, and blood stasis patterns, with higher scores indicating a larger deficiency.RESULTS: The patients had significantly worse scores for Yang-deficient pattern, Yin-deficiency pattern, blood stasis pattern, and the physical components of HRQOL after chemotherapy compared with before chemotherapy. The HRQOL scores correlated significantly with Yang-deficiency, Yin-deficiency, and the blood stasis pattern scores. A generalized estimating equation model showed that the HRQOL scores were significantly worse after chemotherapy compared with before chemotherapy for the physical component, but not for the mental component. Blood stasis pattern was significantly associated with a decreased HRQOL in both the physical and mental components. A hemoglobin level < 12 g/d L was associated with a worse physical component of HRQOL.CONCLUSION: The Yang-deficiency, Yin-deficiency,and blood stasis patterns were all associated with lower HRQOLincancerpatientsafterchemotherapy.展开更多

The particular frequency bands could be mathematically positioned on a Pythagorean scale, based on information distribution according to ratios of 2:3 in 1:2. The particular scale exhibits a core pattern of twelve eigenfrequency functions with adjacent self-similar patterns, according to octave hierarchy. In view of the current interest in coherency and entanglement in quantum biology, in the present paper, we report on a meta-analysis of 60 papers in physics that deal with the influence of electromagnetic frequencies on the promotion of entangled states in, so called, EPR experiments. Einstein, Podolsky and Rosen originated the EPR-correlation thought experiment for quantum-entangled particles, in which particles are supposed to react as one body. The meta-analyses of the EPR-experiments learned that entanglement, achieved in the experiments is real, and applied frequencies are located at discrete coherent configurations. Strikingly, all analysed EPR-data of the independent studies fit precisely in the derived scale of coherent frequency data and turned out to be virtually congruent with the above mentioned semi-harmonic EM-scale for living organisms. This implies that the same discrete coherent frequency pattern of EM quantum waves that determine local and non-local states is also applicable to biological order and that quantum entanglement is a prerequisite for life. The study may indicate that the implicate order of pilot-wave steering system, earlier postulated by David Bohm is composed of discrete entangled EM wave modalities, related to a pervading zero-point energy information field.展开更多

Not only is there a great disparity in average life expectancy, but also the gender difference is positive and negative, and is distributed in a bipolar distribution of “long life in rich countries and short life in poor countries”. This paper analyzes the factors affecting the life grade by using the ordered multivariate discrete selection model and combined with the average life expectancy data of countries all over the world in 2017. The test results show that: 1) The growth of per capita GDP, elderly dependency ratio and the proportion of people using at least basic drinking water services can effectively improve the level of life expectancy;2) The birth rate has an inhibitory effect on the average life expectancy;3) Through model comparison, probit model is more suitable for the analysis of this kind of problems than logit model, and the properties of the obtained model are better.展开更多
