Gender Difference in Circulatory Associated Multi-Morbidity among the Elderly in Rural Southwest China

<strong>Aim:</strong> This study examined the prevalence of four chronic circulatory system diseases (hypertension, CHD, hyperlipemia, Stroke) and associated multi-morbidity in order to identify the risk f... <strong>Aim:</strong> This study examined the prevalence of four chronic circulatory system diseases (hypertension, CHD, hyperlipemia, Stroke) and associated multi-morbidity in order to identify the risk factors among the elderly in Yunnan province. <strong>Methods:</strong> A cross-sectional survey including 2299 consenting adults aged ≥ 60 years from rural places was conducted in 2018. Data of demographic parameters and clinical characteristics were acquired from questionnaire and health examination. Categorical variables were presented as counts and percentages. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the association between individual SES and lifestyle variables and multimorbidity of the four chronic cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. All analyses were conducted with SPSS 17.0 software.<strong> Results:</strong> Our study suggested that the prevalence of hypertension, CHD, hyperlipemia, Stroke was 57.1%, 4.2%, 5.9% and 5.3%, respectively and the prevalence of multimorbidity was 10.3%. Females had a higher prevalence of family history of chronic cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, obesity, central obesity and illiteracy than males (P < 0.01), whereas males had a markedly higher prevalence of drinking, smoking and good sleeping quality than females (P < 0.01). The family genetic history, obesity, smoking, education, and diabetes were positively and drinking was negatively correlated with the prevalence of circulatory associated multimorbidity in elderly. Interestingly, some of the above associations were only observed in male/female but not the other sex. <strong>Conclusions:</strong> The prevalence of circulatory disease associated multimorbidity is relatively high among elderly population in rural places of Yunan province and the risk factors are different between females and males. 展开更多

The antioxidant activities and total phenolic content of fermented Salvia miltiorrhiza with fungus Geomyces luteus were investigated. The results revealed that G. luteus fermentation could significantly improve the antioxidant activity and total phenolic content of S. miltiorrhiza. The main antioxidant constituents were characterized by spec- troscopic analysis as salvianolic acids. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) quantification also showed the enhanced content of salvianolic acid B after fermentation. The present study suggests that G. luteus fermentations are effective in the S. miltiorrhiza salvianolic acids' enrichment process. 展开更多

Experimental verification of a PIV-based pressure field reconstruction technology in supersonic flows

This study proposes a novel approach that involves applying the flux vector splitting(FVS)technique to discretize and approximate conservative Navier-Stokes equations and thus reconstruct pressure fields from planar velocimetry data in compressible flows,especially for supersonic flows with strong shocks.Data are typically resolved by using the particle image velocimetry(PIV)technique.Two supersonic experiments under Mach 2.9-3.0 conditions were conducted to generate strong shocks and investigate the performance of the FVS method,including oblique shock flow and shock wave/boundary layer interaction(SWBLI)coupled with flow separation.Reconstructed pressure fields were comprehensively evaluated.The shock polar results indicated that FVS method possessed higher accuracy in post-shock regions with a pressure ratio error of less than2%,especially for the areas downstream of the shock-shock intersection point and the shock-boundary intersection point,where the conventional Poisson method was ineffective and larger errors accumulated.Wall pressure in SWBLI flow also had better agreement.Furthermore,the performances of different methods were discussed from the perspective of the physical characteristics in supersonic flows,which explained the superiority of the FVS method because the pressure information was delivered along the characteristic direction of physical waves. 展开更多

In order to develop an excellent pseudocapacitor with both high specific capacitance and outstanding stretchability to match with other devices applicable in future wearable and bio-implantable systems, we focus our studies on three vital aspects: Stretchability of hybrid film electrodes, the interface between different components, and the integrated performance in stretchability and electrochemistry of supercapacitors based on single-walled carbon nanotube/ polyaniline (SWCNT/PANI) composite films on pre-elongated elastomers. Owing to the moderate porosity, the buckled hybrid film avoids the cracking which occurs in conventional stretchable hybrid electrodes, and both a high specific capacitance of 435 F.g-1 and a high strain tolerance of 140% have been achieved. The good SWCNT/PANI interfacial coupling and the reinforced solid electrolyte penetration structure enable the integrated pseudocapacitors to have stretch- resistant interfaces between different units and maintain a high performance under a stretching of 120% elongation, even after 1,000 cyclic elongations. 展开更多

The predicted extraordinary properties of carbon nanotubes(CNTs)from theoretical calculations have great potential for many applications.However,reliable experimental determination of intrinsic properties at the single-tube level is currently a matter of concern,and many challenges remain because of the unhandled and nanoscale size of individual nanotubes.Here,we demonstrated a prototype to detect the intrinsic thermal conductivity of the single-wall carbon nanotube(SWCNT)and verify the significant non-resonant optical absorption behavior on tiny nanotubes by integrating the nanotube and ice into a new core-shell design.In particular,a reversible optical visualization method based on the individual suspended ultra-long SWCNT was first developed by wrapping a nanotube with ice in the cryogenic air environment.The light-induced thermal effect on the hybrid core-shell structure was used tomelt the ice shell,which subsequently acted as a temperature sensor to verify the intrinsic thermal conductivity of the core-like nanotube.More interestingly,we successfully determined for the first time the thermal response phenomenon of the tiny absorption cross section in SWCNT in the vertical-polarization configuration and the significant non-resonant absorption behavior in the parallel-polarization configuration.These investigations will provide a better understanding for the unique optical behaviors of CNT and enable the detection of intrinsic properties of various one-dimensional nanostructures such as nanotubes,nanowires,and nanoribbons. 展开更多
