This study investigates the potential of polyphenols extracted from rose pepper in regulating diabetes mellitus and associated complications,including cardiovascular issues,lipid profile disturbances,enzyme activity d...This study investigates the potential of polyphenols extracted from rose pepper in regulating diabetes mellitus and associated complications,including cardiovascular issues,lipid profile disturbances,enzyme activity denatur-ation,and liver function impairment in alloxan-induced diabetic mice.Following the induction of diabetes,a significant increase was observed in the levels of blood glucose,total cholesterol(TC),low-density lipoprotein(LDL),hepatic malondialdehyde(MDA),peroxide(H_(2)O_(2)),and superoxide anion O_(2)^(-)compared to the control group.Additionally,the reduction in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL)levels was associated with a decrease in the corresponding antioxidant enzymes,such as catalase(CAT),glutathione reductase(GR),gluta-thione peroxidase(GPx),and superoxide dismutase(SOD),in all diabetic mice.Moreover,the treatment with the rose pepper extract(150 and 250 mg/kg)for three weeks significantly decreased blood glucose,TC,LDL,MDA,O_(2)^(-),and H_(2)O_(2) levels in diabetic mice.Conversely,it increased serum HDL levels and reactivated hepatic anti-oxidant enzymes.The rich bioactive composition of the rose pepper extract,including gallic acid,amentoflavone,galloyl-shikimic acid,and methyl-3-O-caffeoylquinate,suggests a promising therapeutic effect.Toxicity testing in mice at a dosage of 2 g/kg showed no adverse effects,indicating the safety of consuming rose pepper poly-phenols.These findings support the potential of rose pepper polyphenols as a diabetic supplement,warranting further investigation into their synergistic effects with medications and potential incorporation into diabetic diets.展开更多
The present work reports the heterologous expression and biochemical characterization of a novel phosphati-dylinositol phospholipase C from Bacillus thuringiensis PL14(PI-PLCBt)with potential for oil degumming.As degu...The present work reports the heterologous expression and biochemical characterization of a novel phosphati-dylinositol phospholipase C from Bacillus thuringiensis PL14(PI-PLCBt)with potential for oil degumming.As degumming is a necessary refining step for all crude vegetable oils,enzymatic degumming tests were performed on crude soybean oil using rPI-PLCBt.Its efficiency was investigated by determining the phosphorus and diac-ylglycerol(DAG)contents after different types of treatment.Although the water and chemical degumming process can efficiently reduce the phosphorus content,a specific enzymatic process can still be selected giving its high degumming efficiency of 89.4%,with a noticeable reduction in phosphorus content to 13.7 mg kg^(-1),close to the values of the chemical approach,and a high increase in DAG.Accordingly,enzymatic degumming could be adopted as an alternative to traditional degumming making the process more efficient,eco-friendly and,at the same time,increasing the nutritional value of the final product.展开更多
This research work explores the nutritional composition of three varieties of Ficus carica dried fruits.For such a task,the phenolic profile of their hydromethanolic extracts was evaluated along with their in vitro an...This research work explores the nutritional composition of three varieties of Ficus carica dried fruits.For such a task,the phenolic profile of their hydromethanolic extracts was evaluated along with their in vitro antioxidant,antidiabetic,and anti-inflammatory effects.The proximate analysis showed that the three dried fruits are a valuable source of vegetal oil(2.46-2.52 g/100 g),proteins(2.64-3.33 g/100 g),carbohydrates(84.21-86.07 g/100 g),and energy(372.04-377.00 kcal/100 g).Fatty acids composition revealed that dried fruits studied are rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids with a percentage of 37.89±0.51%,followed by saturated fatty acids(31.30±0.61%),and monounsaturated fatty acids(31.4±1.22%).Furthermore,mineral analysis indicated the presence of potassium(7922.54-10672.19 mg/kg),sulfur(4668-5788.72 mg/kg),calcium(3368.88-3939.64 mg/kg),magnesium(1015.48-1169.11 mg/kg),and phosphorus(838.20-868.65 mg/kg).LC-PDA/ESI-MS analysis revealed the presence of seven phenolic compounds with rutin as the most abundant compound(0.130-0.162 mg/g).Experimental antioxidant tests showed that hydromethanolic extracts have significant antioxidant activity with an IC_(50) values between 219±2.7-307±0.48μg/mL for FRAP,537±1.88-821±1.46μg/mL forβ-carotene bleaching,724±0.1-977±2.36μg/mL for ABTS,and 847±0.04-1214±0.23μg/mL for DPPH tests.Likewise,the inhibition of antidiabetic and anti-inflammatory enzymes was significantly exerted by their hydromethanolic extracts.Based on the results achieved,Ficus carica fruits may be considered as a valuable source of nutrients making them an interesting functional food.展开更多
