Since the discovery of the two object pits at Sanxingdui, Guanghan, scholars have made successive discussions on their date and nature and put forward different explanations. It is necessary to check the researchers'methods in order to examine the reasonability of their views. Consequently, the present paper pays attention mainly to this problem. Meanwhile, the author compares and analyses the two pits and their objects, and on this basis proposes a new hypothesis:the buried objects in the No. 1 pit were possibly used in sacrificial activities of an ancestral temple, whereas those in the No. 2 pit might have came from sacrifices in a god-worshipping temple. The review of studies on the two object pits, the examination of their research methods and the proposal of new views upon comparison and analysis show that constantly seeking for explanations and making-critiques might be an approach to truth. At the same time, they also demonstrate that there is no ultimate explanation in academic research and archaeological issues are always open to further discussion.
