Objective To discuss trigeminal depressor response occurred during percutaneous microcompression for trigeminal neuralgia. Methods 274 patients of trigeminal neuralgia undergone percutaneous microcompression procedures were reviewed. Results 257 trigeminal depressor responses were observed in the 289 procedures performed with main feature of abrupt drops in heart rate, and asystole occurred in 3 cases. Conclusion Trigeminal depressor response is very common during the procedures of percutaneous microcompression for trigeminal neuralgia. Surgeon and anaesthesist must always be aware of the potential for the trigeminal depressor response and both be prepared surgically and pharmacologically to treat the possible life-threatening consequences intraoperatively.
