摘要
在近代以前的社会中 ,教育对于经济发展到底具有何种影响 ?这是一个颇有争议的问题。本文以明清江南的情况为例 ,对此问题进行了讨论。本文对明清江南的精英教育及大众教育的内容 (特别是读写能力和计算能力的培养 )、教育对经济的影响进行了分析 ,指出与以往的看法相反 ,科举应试教育并非明清教育的全部 ,而明清江南教育的发展和普及对于明清江南经济的成长和江南经济成长模式的形成 ,起到了非常重要的作用。
