Dspite a major stump in the directional drilling industry over the past two years, there semms to be a mood of some optimism amongst many of the major HDD manufacturing companies that the market may have bottomed and even starting to recover some of its lost ground. This has been in no short measure due to the efforts of many of these manufacturers in working with their contracting clients to introduce them to new areas of work opportunity that the contractors had not previously investigated or been involved with. The downturn, however, has not prevented the manufacturers continuing to develop various innovative pieces of equipment designed to meet the changing needs of HDD sectors. Some of these innovations are highlighted inthis paper.
