Objective To evaluate the changes in plasma levels of interleukin-2(IL-2),soluble interlekin-2 receptor (sIL-2 R),interleukin-6(IL-6) and soluble interleukin-6 receptor (sIL-6 R) in first-episode schizophrenics before and after treatment. Methods Thirty inpatients selected with CCMD-3 creteria for first-episode schizophrenia (the PANSS scores less than 60) were enrolled into case group, and twenty-eight healthy volunteers into control group. The levels of IL2,sIL-2 R,IL-6,and sIL-6 R were measured with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assey (ELISA) for both control group and case group before and after treatment for 6 weeks, and comparisions were made between the two groups. Results Compared with the control group, the plasma levels of IL-2,sIL-2 R,IL-6,sIL-6 R in the case group increased significantly before treatment (P<0.05),the level of sIL-2 R and IL-6 in case group also increased significantly after treatment (P<0.05),but the levels of IL-2 and sIL-6 R in case group had no significant difference after treatment.Compared with the case group before treatment, the level of IL-2 and sIL-6 R decreased significantly after treatment (P<0.05).However,the levele of IL-6 increased significantly (P<0.05),meanwhile the level of sIL-2 R had no evident difference. Conclusions Schizophrenics have immune dysfunction, and the levels in IL-2,IL-6,and sIL-6 R change before and after treatment.
