摘要
A study of the core-electron x-ray photoelectron spectra showed the presence of satellite structure for the 3d and 4d signals in Ce_2O_3, CeO_2, CeCl_3, CeF_3. These satellites are discussed in terms of coexcitation of the charge transfer type principally O2p to Ce4f transitions. It is confirmed that in the cerium compounds studied the satellites are due to energy-loss (representing shake-up) rather than energy-gain (shake-down) processes.
