The surface and internal crack occurred rate for 150 mm×150 mm concasting billet of 0.45C 1.0Mn 0 20S (Y45S20) free cutting steel decreased obviously by using mould shielding flux with higher carbon content, decreasing metal overheating degree and water rate for secondary cooling zone, and controlling Mn/S no less than 5.
